View Full Version : Real body acceptance!

I have read many items on many different forums on many other sites that talk about body acceptance. And I keep coming across the same things over and over again. First is erection, second is shave or not, third is weight. I'll start with the later first, if we are a group of people that are suppose to be nudist then we should not care about what someone looks like, at all. AT ALL. Second is should we shave or not? Again if we are a group of real nudist then again we really shouldn't care one way or the other. For myself I don't shave, I don't like it because it's not natural, and for everyone else I don't care one way or the other. And lastly but not least erections. As a male I could care less. Again it a natural occurrence, but if it's being shown in an unacceptable way then I have a porblem with that. But again as a male it's natural for men to get them for many different reasons. And believe it or not we can't really control it. I don't have any problems myself, but for those who get them when I am enjoying a naked outing I really wouldn't care.
We talk about nudism being able to be a natural thing and that body acceptance is what it's all about. Then why so many question on these three topics. Is it because being a nudist really has something to do with sexuality? I think it's dose wheather we like it or not. As a whole I think we like looking at other naked people. Not that there is anything wrong with that. We get on someone because they don't post a naked picture of themself on this site. We order nudist movies from this site, and calendars. I think it's because we like looking at other naked people. But I really don't think it has anything to do with anything sexual. Not for me at least, and probably not for many others as well. But I think that is why we get a bad rape from so many different groups of people. That nudist are just sex perverts. But I think if we can all truely accept each others bodies as they are, and get past those that can't. Then we will be able to move the nudist life style in a much better direction.

Please notice the smiling sun and smiling happy face at the end of this post. It's not meant to start an ongoing, never ending debate but to answer, in my opinion, why some of these topics end up becoming trash sessions.
First; Body acceptance. Yes, you are correct, true nudists (whatever that label means to you and to everyone else, is different) shouldn't care what a person's body looks like but...we should be supporting a healthy lifestyle along with the nudist lifestyle. Being overweight, and I'm one of those, comes with other health risks that are detrimental to your health and longivity. Take care of yourself.

Second; Shaving or not shaving. It always starts as "it's a personal preference," but ends up with some people here saying things like..."it's unnatural," "makes you look like a kid," "makes you look like you are waiting for puberty to begin," etc. These types of statements are never started with, "in my opinion," they are always thrown out there without regard for those that have a preference for or against shaving. Food for thought about what and how you write something to everyone else.
Third; Erections...I have never had an uncontrolable erection, except for that one you get in the middle of the night or in the morning signaling a need to use the restroom. "In my opinion," the whole arguement about erections being natural and they shouldn't matter to "nudists/naturists" is overplayed and overused.
This lifestyle is dominated by men. This board is dominated by men, just like every other naturist board. We start them, moderated them and are by far the most frequent posters on them. Not too far behind these topics of discussion is a topic that runs a close 4th or 5th. "How do we get more women, How do I get my girlfriend/wife involved?" "How do we get more women to participate in the forums?" You listen to what the vast majority of them are saying and what many of us men with wifes, girlfriends or nudist female friends are saying when we say..."if you get an erection, be polite, follow etiquette and either cover, sit down or go into the water til it subsides.
If it's "no big deal" to have one, why is it such a big deal to deal with it the way most "true nudists" would prefer you to deal with it? Also, "in my opinion," we, men, can control an erection.
Nudism/Naturism does have a sensual undertone. Just because my wife and I are nude all the time at home and when we go to resorts for the day or on vacation, doesn't mean we don't have sexual thoughts. There is a fine line we naturists try to hold so that the mainstream doesn't automatically equate our lifestyle with other alternative lifestyles such as swinging and wild sex orgy's.
I agree that trying to distance ourselves from sex or even speaking of it on a naturist site isn't fooling anyone including many of us. But, many of the sites have some strict rules and standards, a few other sites are a little looser and open conversation amongst nudists are discussed on many topics, including sex. It's not a bad thing but the forum must be open to it for discussion.
I personally would like nothing more than for our lifestyle to be accepted as much as going to the market and stopping to get fuel in one's vehicle. We all know it's not going to happen any time soon. So we have some rules to keep things, somewhat, underwraps. That's not terrible. So we have etiquette, rules and standards of behavior within our lifestyle, that's not bad either.
We all have differring opinions on all topics. I think what we need to do first is recognize that, embrace it and take a first step at truly getting along as a community. We'll never move forward unless we are willing to realize that first.

Body acceptenace is of course the basis of a relaxed nude lifestyle. It is a big problem for people to overcome because of the way society is and the way prudish attitudes have taken over our way of life. I can tell you from personal experiance that having been brought up in a VERY prudish family where no family member ever saw any other family member nude (my father died when I was three), it is a huge hurdle to go from that to being comfortable nude in the presence of others.
We cannot critisise anyone who has a body image problem. This website helps people overcome the body image problems.
Because it is permissable to expose to public view any part of the body EXCEPT genital areas, part of breasts and often buttocks, it is not surprising that a huge proportion of the topics on this website focus on those areas. That does not have anything to do with sex. It is only after LONG PERIODS of being naked with others that we MAY be able to overcome the curiosity factor - that is on first meeting someone , glance downwards to check out the body. I think that could be one of the defining things of being a nudist.
A person is a nudist who enjoys and promotes a nude lifestyle AND who, on meeting someone does not glance down but looks straight into the eyes of the person thus indicating a totally relaxed attitude to THE BODY.
I agree that everything about a person (including the body type) makes the person similar to the way the clothing worn is part of our charactor.

Forums are, by nature, places for different opinions. We would not need them if everyone agreed. And as James mentioned, since nudists are the ones who do not mind going without clothes on parts of the body that are normally clothed in public, nudist forums are going to talk about those anatomical parts more than other forums. It isn't because we are more sexual, but because society has sexualized them and made it improper to talk about them.
However, when it comes to living together, you will find that nudists can and do show body acceptance. They do not care about someone else's weight as much as they talk about it in a discussion forum. They do not care whether one shaves or not. They can tell whether an erection is innocent or lascivious or lewd.

FireProf, OZJames, Bob S., very well written posts gentlemen.
Enjoying Life, I too have wondered about the three "topics" you mention and I have also concluded what the three above this post have ... but I'll risk lowering the bar of the discussion and say,
Most nudists don't give a tinker's darn about the weight of another individual (other than the wish that they have good health and take gave of their health as FireProf noted.).
Most nudists do not give a flying rat's arse if another shaves or not or has piercings for that matter.
Most nudists couldn't care less about an 'erection', hell, most wouldn't notice one anyway.
But, ah, here's the qualifier, nudists are a cross section of society and society is made up of humans so there will be a few obessed with another's weight, another's 'natural' or shaven appearance and yet another's 'erection' --(there is another qualifier here as well, most nudists will notice and make their feelings on the matter known should one "sporting" an erection be doing so in a lewd and lascivious manner, and as Bob said they do know the difference)
As to your questioning why those three topics tend to be dominate on many forums, well again leave us reference the fact that nudists are human and maybe there is a morbid fascination there I don't know ...
Ok, Ok, Ok, I'll stop beating the dead horse now ...

All the previous posts are very well put and written by very insightful and experianced members of this forum. I am not a frquent poster but a daily reader. As for my personal thoughts I try to react the same to every situation the same, nude or clothed. Morals and such should not change with the removal of clothing. Ah, now I rattel on. Have a great day everyone.

Unfortunately, we still are influenced by the fashion industries about what we should look like- weight, clothes, etc. But, hopefully, the longer we are a nudist, the less we are impressed by it. At least, that has been my experience and observation.
Much like going to school, the longer we are there, the smarter(?) we get.
