Hopeful signs from reluctant wife

My wife is not exactly anti-nudity as much as indifferent. The only time she ever gets naked is when I go first and request that she do likewise.
The good news is that there have been some notable exceptions in the last few days.
One afternoon last week she turned up missing and I went out to our very private pool and found her to be swimming around naked all by herself. I made no comment, since I wanted this to feel like normal behavior and thus no remarks required. I just got in the pool and started swimming, too.
A day or two later, I found her sunbathing naked in a lounge chair at the pool. Once again, I joined her.
One evening about ten I thought she was outside taking a lap or two around our block, so I went out meet her. When I went out the sidewalk she said hello and there she was in our glider swing seat enjoying the night air in the nude. This is in a dark corner of the yard and we have virtually no traffic at night in our mostly rural neighborhood. She said later that she really enjoyed the feeling.
One more example. My wife has always been leery about our daughters, ages 18 and 12, seeing their parents nude. Last Saturday night our 12 year old had a friend over to spend the night, which has always meant that we had to wear swimsuits in the pool. I announced that I was going to swim laps, and a minute or two later my wife appears wearing only a towel, and tells the girls to holler before they come through the pool fence. She says that they are old enough to follow the rules.
I shall continue to low key this, as I want nudity to appear normal, but I am thrilled by the progress.

That is really great news. Thanks for sharing your wife's progress with us. Not so strangely, this is exactly the approach I took with the Prof.

Seemed the less hoopla I made of the progress, the more progress was made. She later stated that she was able to make the progress because I allowed her to do it at her own pace.

Sometimes when you start running out of patience with your significant other on making progress into nudism, you gotta dig down deep for more patience. It paid off for me, and obviously is paying off for you.

Very good news and continued hopes for progress for you and especially your wife.

You're right on in your approach. Obviously there's good reason to be encouraged. Maybe the time will come when she'd be comfortable inviting your daughters to join in the nighttime swimming (daughters invited to wear or not wear whatever they wish). That would seem like a natural step.

But let her keep taking the lead, though an occasional low-key question could be OK.

She did it again last night.
We had a rather late dinner, got the dishes washed about nine, and the kids settled down to watch a movie. Pretty shortly I noticed she was AWOL and peeked out the window to see the padlock gone from the gate on the pool fence.
There she was, swimming around all by herself in my favorite swimsuit, namely none. I went in and got two towels and a glass of wine, and we spent a very pleasant hour and a half by ourselves out there.
Still very, very warm late at night, so thank goodness for the pool.

We were talking about it and decided that by the end of July this year, my wife has spent as much time nude as in any entire summer up to now. I like it.

Hey Macanude, that is great news! I can't help but say that I'm envious of your progress. My girlfriend of almost 6 years (we count when we first started talking online we didn't meet face to face until about a year and a half later) has only been nude around the apt for about 6 months, give or take. The other day we started talking about married life (she doesn't want to get married until she finishes her diploma) and we got into the topic of sleeping naked. Then that turned into a very short discussion of sleeping nude when we have kids. She then said "Kids should not see mommy and daddy naked, it will give them the wrong idea. They should see mommy and daddy in pajama's just like them." I tried to respond about the good thing about living a naturist life style and passing it on to the kids but she said that would be the end of the discussion. So i stopped because i knew if i pushed it any further that she would definately clam up.

Anyway... my question is, how long did it take you to get your wife, or rather, how long did it take your wife to be comfortably nude to the point of the stories above?

It finally happened. It has been very hot for the past week, and in the evening I've been going for a swim in the pool. Usually ask my wife to join me but she declines. The other night while I was in the pool she came out quietly took off all her clothes, and came into the pool. For over we floated on 'noodles' and talked and relaxed. I had given up asking her to try nude swimming, and she just did it on her own.

Newshynjguy, it only seems like ice ages have come and gone during all this.
It may all be attributable to the age of the girls, since they can be depended upon to announce themselves. We may just go to our graves disagreeing about the merits of nudity in sight of the kids. She thinks it is imposing on them and I think it is perfectly natural and even advisable. Tough going on that one, especially since they grew up skinny-dipping with their parents, and then hit that magic age of puberty and self consciousness.
My wife has apparently stopped worrying so much about being seen by the neighbors. You can see the fence around our pool, and it sits right in the middle of a two acre lot, so if somebody should come barging in without permission, they would be in the wrong, not us. Nobody has in fourteen years. I think she would be mildly embarrassed, but could get over it.
I have now taken to reading and web surfing in the nude in our den. One must always have a towel to sit, so I have one ready anyway and if our younger girl wants to come in, it takes about two seconds to pull the long end of the towel over my lap.
None of my business, but I shall say it anyway. If all this is going to be a significant irritant in your new marriage, you need to find out if you can reach at least a truce, if not an agreement. If it is going to make you resent her for it, you are looking at a long term problem. We have been married 27 years, and I always wished she would loosen up and join me. I can't begin to tell you how much more pleasant it is with her when we are nude together, instead of me sitting there wishing.

One more significant first. A week or so ago, the kids were gone for the evening, and we were out swimming. I volunteered that I was hungry, and asked if she wanted to join me for dinner if I prepared it. She said yes, and I went in the house to heat up some leftover baked chicken. When I told her that it was ready, she came in the house, put her towel down on the chair, and we ate dinner in the nude. I don't remember her ever doing that before, and I never even asked. She even made it a point to open all the blinds in our breakfast nook, which looks out on the yard through five bay windows.
When finished, we tidied up the kitchen and went back out to the pool, all without clothing of any kind.
She hasn't done it since, but I don't recall if both kids have been gone at meal time since then. It was a great meal in any case.

My children saw each other (a boy and a girl), their mother & I in the nude plenty of times before they started school. I figured this way there would be less embarrassment as they grew older......and there were no "embarrassing" questions!

Thanks for the insight Macanude. I appreciate the concern you showed for the well being of my relationship. I know we'll come to a conclusion of some sort before we get married and have children. She will probally just warm up with it more and more as time passes until she perhaps could view it as a complete lifestyle instead of just as a "at home when no one is around" lifestyle. I not overly concerned yet.

Howdy from a fellow Texan (Austin area). I can feel your joy coming through the words you type. You are seeing the fruits of your obviously long standing suggestions and examples for your wife. We have been at-home nudists since we got married, also 27 years ago. We raised our kids nude, and that has paid big dividends. Even though nudity has been quite common place at our house, there have been many instances where my wife has surprised me, much like yours has in the last month. Some were very small in nature, like talking more openly with a close friend of family member about our nudism. One was going on a nude hike with me a couple of years ago on our Bahamas vacation. Even on this year's trip, she didn't even take a swimsuit down to the beach with her each day. This year, just like last time, when we've come home from that trip, she pulls off her clothes and goes nude as soon as she steps in the door. Often she's nude before I even get home.

The one that surprised me the most happened last summer when we were enjoying some quite time in the backyard. She said, "You know, if we lived out in the country further, we could go nude outside all the time like this." I'm so happy that that idea has now become a shared thought.

I hope this trend continues for the two of you. It's smart to treat it as common place, but you should probably pick a time to compliment her on her new found freedom and enjoyment of being nude with you. You never know where a small positive comment like that might take you. Stay BARE!
