Has anyone ever noticed that you experience nature very differently when your are totally nude? I know that on the outside I am stating the obvious, but it goes deeper than that. Last summer I went nude hiking a few times with a close friend at a large and wonderful cliffy area with all kinds of wonderful open trails that overlook a nude beach a few miles from me.
We drove there and parked in a parking lot about a 1/4 mile from the opening to the top of the wide cliff area. On one occasion we went late at night around 2 am in the morning when it was a typical summer hot night. Way too hot to stay home and way too hot to wear clothes! So we took off to the beach to enjoy nature. This time we decided to walk the 1/4 mile nude (you can late at night because it is all but pitch black and almost no one drives that section of the road at 2am. We parked our car and got out ready to be naked and enjoy it. I was thinking as we took a few minutes to get ready how great it will feel in a few minutes to be nude. Just the thought of being out doors on a hot summer night with a good friend and going nude was exciting in a beautiful way. We began taking off our clothes in the emtpy parking lot and as we were I was, for some reason, really concentrating on how it feels as each piece of clothes came off. The "closer to being naked" thing I guess you could say. Nothing innapropriate or perverted, just a joyful feeling. Neither one of us was wearing much to begin with. I had on a loose tank-top, a thong swimsuit, deck shoes and baggy shorts. I noticed that there was a big difference as each piece came off. First my shirt, then my friend took off his. We both pulled off our shorts together and I was down to my thong and my friend had on a regular pair of underwear. He wasted no time getting off his underwear and a split second later I peeled off my thong. When I did I was really aware of being, as I said, totally nude in nature and was very aware of it. We both were! There is even a big difference between having a tiny string thong on and nothing on. There is no comparison! You definitely feel as though you know a person more quickly...perhaps it's that willingness to be "vulnerable" or just let down your guard.
I hid my car keys and we started down the road to the opening to the trails. It felt absolutely wonderful! We were nude, feeling the warm air, walking down the street on a warm night nude and we were free! There was just something very different even than wearing my silly swimming thong. I could feel the difference as it came off. It was like night and day.
The warm breeze caressed and massaged our bodies and the heat was sensual in an innocent and healthy way. You can really tell the difference between, say wearing a thong, and wearing nothing at all. It's a different emotion and an experience and when you do it with a friend who can feel what you are feeling you have it even better! Going nude hiking has a lot of great elements to it...the fun of taking off your clothes together outdoors (a very social thing), doing so with a friend, the happy feeling, the innocent almost naughty "nude dare" feeling and the feeling of being close to nature and being part of nature. We walked and discussed just about anything you could imagine as we explored the trails heading down to the beach. When we got down to the water it was neat to feel the warm sea air and smell the ocean. We walked up and down the beach having a great time just being naked and alive that I don't think you can have when you are forced to wear clothes. Hopefully I have made some sense...

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gifTerry Nude! your experience to nature is pretty much the way you should feel. The experience of going nude hiking is extremely exhilarating. My first experience was with a dear friend. And I will repeat myself. It was a total turn on.
All the best

I've found that there is no better way to get to know somebody than when you are nude. People lie much less to one another when they are stripped of the embellishments of clothing.

I find my sense of hearing and vision is more acute when I am free hiking. I usually can distinguish between the sounds of the wildlife and humans when out in my local national park. I can see movement ahead and discern if wildlife or human. I am not sure why this is, I just accept it and enjoy. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I feel the same way, more connected to nature in the nude and its more than just skin deep. Its a mental and emotional connection as well. Clothes can be good protection at times in the wild but mostly they're just a barrier.
The best I can compare it to is riding my motorcycle vs. driving the car. When Im on the bike there is no barrier between me and the elements, Im more a part of everything and more aware.

I started freehiking 3 years ago. I can't stand to be out in the wood hiking with clothes on at all now. I have just moved to Montana, after spending the last summer freehiking all over this state. There are/is? only 1,000,000 people in this state and the chances of running into other people is very rare. And if you do, they are true hikers, and just laff, nod, smile, but never get mad of vocal about it. Most ask questions about the trail ahead.
It's very freeing to me, it seems like I'm closer to nature when freehiking. There is nothing like hiking through old growth cedar's and ending up on top of a 9000' peak, in the snow, in July, warm.
And now Spring is here.....And the days are getting warmer. Soon ....soon.

I have a question about the hole hiking nude stuff. I my self love hiking and riding my bike in the woods. I live near Chicago so there aren't many woods I could go to and ride my bike or walk naked in.
But I guess where you guys go hiking the woods are much larger than the once we have here. Anyway don't you guys get in trouble with the law for hiking nude? If someone sees you and calls the police on you saying theres a pedophile running in the forest (someone might see it that way) and the police officers do catch you naked there, wont you get in trouble for that? Or how do people look at you when they see you hiking naked? I wouldn't mind but what about the others?
There is a difference for sure.
Like night and day.
Maybe because I get so few opportunities, the impact is greater?

I enjoy nude hiking in the forested areas surrounding Vancouver. I do, however, try to minimise the risk of encountering other clothed persons by using closed fireroads and logging roads to get away from areas easily accessible by car. And I carry a pair of shorts in an outer pocket of my backpack to slip on if I heard someone coming up the trail. Despite these precautions, I have been taken unawares by other persons while I was nude on two occasions. The first time, I just came around a bend and there they were, a young couple in their twenties, hiking in the opposite direction. There was nothing I could do but just keep walking and say "Hi". And you know what? The world didn't end, and their was no unpleasantness. They said "Hi" back and the young lady said that "was one way of keeping cool" and that was that. I think that because I was in the great outdoors away from the city and was obviously hiking with hat, backpack and boots, there was no problem. I wasn't jumping out from the bushes, or acting furtive. I think other "outdoors" persons in a natural setting may not be as taken aback by nudity as you may think. A matter of time and place. Its no different than coming upon a hotspring and finding people enjoying it in the nude. On the second occasion this happened, I actually stopped and chatted for some time with the other people I met. Seems its just not a big deal out in the woods if you are apparently legitimately hiking. I also go nude out on my boat, and have seen other people in boats, canoes and kayaks either nude or partially nude (seems di regeur these days for ladies to at least go topless out on the water). Again, its a matter of context... time and place. And the police would be kept very busy indeed trying to arrest all these dangerous people out on the water. As I have often said, however, maybe its a West Coast, laid back attitude.

We all notice the great feeling of hiking and camping nude. That is why I am looking for some hiking/backpacking friends in the central CA area to go nude hiking/backpacking with me this summer. It's better with two or more people rather than alone. Get fewer strange looks from the clothed hikers.

Nothing like spending a after noon walking around the woods. most times you forget your nude and the feel of the hot sun on your body. I have ended up spending hours just walking through the woods

There truely is a difference, I first tried nude hiking 6 years ago, I started out on a 10 mile hike ,I had been thinking about trying to hike nude for some time, so as soon as I got on the trail my thought was to try it for 5 minutes so off came the walking shorts and shirt, the feeling was awesome so my 5 minute hike turned into 10 miles .
It was the most wonderful experience I have ever known the day was plesant and the warm breeze, sun at one time on the hike I notice that I had forgotten I was naked , it was so plesant ,I became addicted to nude hiking and being retired gave me the opertunity to get out a lot in the past 6 years I have hiked thousands of miles . There truely is a difference .God hiking to all.Ron

HIking naked where you now you will be okay is probably the best way to go. You definitely don't want to offend someone, but you can find out the best places were others have already hiked. That is pretty much how it is done.

It's the pesky flies and mosquitos that keep me from hiking when it's hot. I prefer to do it in the SUNNY upper 50's when I can hike fast, keep warm, and the little pests are hiding. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I used to belong to Oak Lake Trails in Oklahoma. It's a wonderful place to hike with over 400 acres of hilly woods and meadows. There are also a number of ponds that you can cool off in too.
It was especially awesome when I encountered deer when I was nude in the woods. I really felt like I was part of nature and not just an observer.

Not only is the nature experience far, far superior for me in the nude, but I have noticed that the wildlife respond differently to me when I am nude! The birds don't fly away, the animals don't seem afraid, and I have been able to get much closer to them while nude. This has been true at the forest and at the beach. And I have noticed the same for others when they are nude. I don't think I am acting any differently when nude, but the animals respond differently. Wonder why that is?

I couldn't agree more, I'd noticed that wildlife accepted my presence more readily when I'm naked, but I still not sure why!!
Whilst I have walked with other people, I generally prefer to walk alone to maximise that oneness that I feel with nature.
Looking forward to summer to get more naked walking experience, my friend Steve Gough (http://nakedwalk.org/) wouldn't have it any other way

A little update...
Yesterday in my area it was really hot during the day and that almost always prompts me to think about going nude. Most of the day I was thinking "as soon as the day is over my clothes are gone!" I knew it was going to be a warm night also. So I thought to myself, why waste a warm evening by doing nothing and staying home?! So, I called my nude hiking friend and asked if he was interested in going nude tonight and for a short hike. His replay was ABSOLUTELY! Let’s do it! Well, that was that! I knew we would be up late, so I took a short nap and about 11PM my friend showed up. I had just got out of the shower so I was already naked and as soon as my friend got in my house his clothes came off. We relaxed for a few minutes and had a ice tea and talked about how nice it was to be able to go for a walk by the water tonight and not have to wear clothes. After a short while it was time to go. We both decided to drive to the area we park in the nude (we kept some clothes in the back of the car just in case) and drove the short distance to the parking lot which is about 1/4 mile from the opening to the trails that over look the beach. It was really dark mostly because the area has little lighting and a few clouds covered what there was of the moon. We were both excited and could hardly wait to get going. I put my car key in a small pocket on my running shoes and we walked the 1/4 down the dark road to the beach gate. It was a great feeling to be nude together! Two friends, nude, sensual but innocent, no clothes, no need for clothes, totally free and feeling the warm air on our naked bodies! We both felt great! We slowly strolled down to the large main trail and began walking it together. We took it slow trying to enjoy the feeling. And what a feeling it was! Nature comes alive when you experience it without clothes on. I think it is a real shame if you miss out on the feeling of being nude with the outdoors all around you. We enjoyed the air, the sounds of the waves below on the beach and each other's company. After about 45 minutes we reached the final slope that drops you off at the beach. It was nice to be able to take off the running shoes we were both wearing and even that was great because neither of us had a stitch on! We were naked and no clothes anywhere near us! It felt like the Garden of Eden. Not only is it cool to be nude on the beach, it’s great to see others enjoy it too. After about an hour of walking by the water and relaxing in the warm night air we started back up the trail feeling great about the freedom we both were enjoying. We had a fun walk back to the car and drove naked back to my place.
When we got back to my condo we were both in need of an ice tea and also decided to enjoy sharing a massage. Nothing to long, just 15 or 20 minutes each was enough to feel great!
