I threw my old 386 away a few weeks ago because to me it was just taking up space. I don't have a computer right now that I could load Linux on because my old 1 GHz Pentium III decided to not turn on a few days ago.
I am down to just having my current computer working and I hope it continues that way. It is running Windows XP because I run a lot of software that is written specifically for MS Windows.

I'm a Feisty Fawn too! Those Ubuntu people have done a great job. And got to love the pro-nudist artwork that it originally came out with:

I also happily use Windows. From my perspective, why not run both and get the best of each.

That's what I'm running right now while reading this news. I only use MSWin when work requries me to do so, My machine here, an AMD K7, is dual hosted with Ununtu and XP Media center.

I have an older version (99/2000?) of Red Hat Linux on an AMD box of the same era. I will probably be installing versions of Linux on some other computers soon for some nerdy projects I have going on.
Linux is a great nerd's operating system, and has certainly been crucial to the economical development of the web, as those such as Microsoft try to figure out what's going on and slowly catch up with affordable web server software of their own.

Installed Ubuntu 7.4 2 weeks ago on my 900 mhz 512 mb ram. Running a triple boot with Mandriva and Win 2000. Ubuntu is my favourite. Runs very smooth and very fast on this old machine. Only run Win 2000 when i need it. It's a matter of choice. But now I feel more now free , now that I'm not forced to use a microsoft system any more.

OK CFF -- confession time -- what do your servers run?

Kari - do You may explain, would I expect can work on Linux such everyday needed programs as SPSS, MathCAD, AutoCAD, OML, EnviMan, RoadNoise, WaveLab, RoutePlanner (GPS suuported map) and many other modeling progs? I wonder if. Them are not very stable even into boundaries of Windows, demanding for example, older as certain version or contrary, younger as.
Yet Linux is a thing I would like to experiment.

CFF and CFI Servers are completely different at different locations physically.
CFF and CFI runs the latest state of the art mirrored blade servers with multi processors.
Unless changed recently, it's an Apache HTTP Server on Linux.

Johny,
on the following website you can easily find equivalents for windows programs
http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html
It's just a matter of experimenting.

Garry: ""CFI run the latest state of the art mirrored blade servers with multi processors>""
WHY????
Does it really contains so much terabytes, or is that number of parallel users count in millions?? Even our local political superforum delfi.lv with 2,5 million users from which about quarter may be online, with grand formums, articles, sections, comments etc takes only 5 big computers in one room. Yet there every second comes a new and new post.
Okay, I am in the CFI (at leasts one of reasons) due that here is quite active forum to differ from other naturist forums, what are quite inactive, but I cannot see any need why CFI have the resource-overkilling.
Or may be real reason is movie section?? I never been in it. No permission. Yet I had met CFI movies somewhere at e-mule and bittorrents http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif (successfully stolen) http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif .

The CFI members do have high extremely high resolution video at bandwidths of 1,996.0 kbps .wmv Windows Media Video. Each wmv file is usually over a tenth of a gig, show168ehi.wmv being almost a half hour long at 340,459 KB in file size. They are almost Movie Theater like quality with awesome video and audio when played on a Pioneer Elite 127cm/50inch plasma home theater system.
Storing hundreds of extremely hi resolution video and multi-media files, medium resolution, and dial up modem speed video files plus 10's of thousands of stills, plus video spotlight and panoramic resort videos takes lots of server storage capacity, bandwidth, and communications bandwidth and capacity when you consider multiple and simultaneously streams are being downloaded constantly and over 100,000 hits per day are using server capacity and bandwidth.
The CFF servers in the North Western part of the U.S. require no where near the capacity and bandwidth the CFI servers do in the Gulf region of the United States.
Some clients of server farms own their own server racks, where others use existing state of the art servers leased and maintained by hosts and providers severing many other clients, some much larger.
The cost of server services and communications bandwidth are a large part of CFI costs in providing the high quality the services they provide.
I doubt if the quality of the stolen CFI movies you mention were other than dial up low resolution, but unfortunately unauthorized copying and reloading to other portals does occur and is a violation of copyright and terms of being a member. Thanks for reporting such finding. I have found the same recognizing Corey and Aaron on Russian and Eastern XXX, Porno, and gay web sites and one on a Croatian naturist site. Any member of CFF or CFI should report such finding to a moderator in the Forums, or CFI directly @:

Ubuntu on i386 huh? Must be painfully slow. Im using Ubuntu 6.02 on 256 mb ram, ~1.0 Ghz Intel. Its alright, a bit slow i think. But, handles bandwith just fine and it is pretty stable. I just use putty most of the time to access it.
