As a kid, I occasionally was nude when the rest of the family was out.
As a bachelor with a small apartment, going without clothes was easy.
However, I generally avoided being seen nude by others until age 37.
My doctor suggested I should take out a membership at the Y to improve my posture.
I approached the showers with some trepidation, but after showering with other guys; I realized that being nude in front of others was really no big deal. Comfort set in.
I should have joined the Y many years earlier!!!!

I think my revelation was when i was ten. My folks left me at home for the first time alone and I had that typical kid idea of "what can I do that I have never done before?" And it just hit me that i wanted to go nude. Since then whenever I have time to myself I go nude. It was over 11 yrs before I drummed up the courage to try to go nude with someone else around.

Im my late eeens I really enjoyed skinny dipping. Then in my early twenties, I found a great nude beach. The relaxing nature of a day at a nude beach cannot be beat. I was hooked at that point.

My Mother told me that when I was a toddler, She couldn't keep a diaper on me. I was always pulling it off and running around the yard naked.
I guess she won for awhile. But now i'm in my "Second Childhood". http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I grew up extremely shy. At 25, I was vacationing in the mountains in France. One evening, a documentary on nudism came on TV; it showed some hikers climbing a mountain in the buff. I thought to myself: why not give it a shot? The next morning, I climbed up a mountain, took all my clothes off and stood on top of that mountain overlooking the Pyrenees, nude as the day I was born. That day I knew I was a nudist.

I think most kids naturally gravitate towards being naked, but they're quickly "socialized" against it and the clothing-compulsion soon takes hold. I know that's how I was for many years, but I first started getting interested in nudism around age 27. Five years later, after plenty of back-and-forth with myself on the subject, I decided to go for it, and I'm coming up on the 1-year anniversary of that. Never looked back since.

When I was around 11 or 12 I found out about nudists and I would sunbath nude in our back yard when no one was home and go on nude walks in the woods or in the fields of my parents farm at night. As I got older as a young adult I would hike to remote locations to skinney dip or nude sunbathe. The turning point came after I returned from the first Gulf war I decided life was too short to not do something I had always wanted to do so I sent away for some nudist magazines and books and I went to Blacks beach in San Diego. I loved it and eventually made other contacts in the area and joined several clubs landed and non-landed and national. For a while I was doing everything I possibly could and some things I probably shouldn't have but I am now more relaxed about my nude recreation.

For as long as I have any memory of anything, I've ALWAYS hated wearing clothes and taken advantage of very carefully selected and generally very solitary moments to remove them. But, my epiphany and resulting understanding that made me admit to being a "nudist" (first to myself) didn't happen until about 4 years ago.

I was 14, just started HS and got my own room. I was the oldest of 5 at the time, oldest of 7 now. One night just after school had started, I went to bed and was lying there with my jockey shorts on and got up, locked my door and took off those jockeys, got back into bed and never wore anything to bed again.
Soon after that time, I began enjoying nude time whenever my family members were gone and I was alone in the house. It wasn't very often but I looked forward to those times more and more.
I never realized that there was such a thing as a nudist until I was 18 and had joined the service and a shipmate saw that I slept nude. He asked if I were a nudists and the conversation took off from there. He and his family were and he told me about camps, colonies and the whole philosophy which was much more hippy based back in 1971. The rest is history. Began my nudist life by sleeping nude on board ship, visiting nude beaches in the bay area and wearing clothes while at home as little as possible.
Once married, we were nude quite a bit while I was home on weekends unless we had company over or were out visiting family. I has taken a long time but my wife will now refer to herself as a nudist and living a nudist lifestyle. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
For as far back as I can remember.

i think since i was about 6 ive always prefered being without clothes. i used to whip them off when i was playing in the garden or in my bedroom and get into trouble for it.
from about age 13 i started being nude round the house when my parents were out and found it enjoyable and more comftable. its just gone from there really.
i only learned that what i was liking was nudism last summer talking to another girl online, who was a lifelong nudist in a nudist family.

Since about the age of 11 I knew I really didn't like wearing clothes. A cousin and I would hike into wooded areas, and take our shirts off. That feeling of freedom would leave me with a desire to remove more clothing, so eventually I did, (alone of course) and at that moment I knew I enjoyed nudism.

As a child I was allowed to play outside naked during the warm summer months as did many of the other children in our neighborhood, I guess you could say that I have never liked to wear clothing from my first memories of life.
I think I was in high school (not quite sure...) and I read an article in Jane Magazine "My Weekend as a Nudist" about a reporter's trip to Laguna del Sol. I must have read that article and started in awe at the pictures (families! naked! together!) about 50 times. I knew immediately it was for me. It just clicked, like "duh" I knew this all along. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
Wish I still had that issue for posterity.

Like Nude in North, my mom had a hard time keeping diapres on me. At nine or ten I was 'jelous' of the Amazon/ African peoples featured in National Geographic. Thet walked around naked! About the same time frame also saw me in a mass skinny-dip at the local YMCA on saturday afternoons.
At 11 or 12, I simplely stopped wearing 'jammies. In high school, I somehow came into possession of an early sixies nudist magazine. In college, I was part of a loosely formmed skinny dipping 'club'. And, like now, after i got my own flat, I was nude almost from the time I walked in the door to the time I had to go.
So I guess you could say that I've known I am a nudist most of my life.

I tried to sleep without pajamas but my parents wouldn't allow it. They also wouldn't allow me to lock my door and they had a tendency to walk right in without knocking. Getting caught nude, it happened a couple time, was a huge deal. But, then again, EVERYTHING was a huge deal; the pillow isn't centered, the drapes aren't completely open, or closed, the spoon is too close to the knife, the spoon is too far away from the knife, on and on.
I found it easier to just wear the damn pajamas until I could move out. Since then, I never have.

I knew I preferred being nude when I was around 11 or 12, I guess it was; I remember late one afternoon when no one else was home, I got naked and actually ran around the back yard for a bit, I felt so free! The neighbors on one side were elderly and not often outside, and we had enough trees and shrubbery on the other side and behind the house so that no one would spot me (I can only imagine what the neighbors might have told my parents!). It wasn't until a year or two later when we moved and I got my own room that I started sleeping nude (except in winter; nowadays, I just pile more blankets on), but it was another 19 years before I finally visited my first resort and experienced social nudism (and I haven't looked back).

It has been a gradual process for me...
The first spark was a article I saw in the travel section in a newspaper maybe 15 or so years ago. I don't remember the details, but it was about a trip the author took to Kuwai (Hawaii). They hired a guide that took them canoeing and then walked through the jungle to a secluded waterfall. They went skinnydipping, then walked back nude.
Then some years later, my interest was rekindled when I heard a radio interview with a gentleman with AANR. The phone number was engraved on my brain: 800-TRY-NUDE. I think it was shortly after that that I tried sleeping nude and never went back.
I didn't try any public nudism until I got out of the Navy and moved to Chicago in '93. I found Mazo beach on the web and checked it out. I've been hooked ever since.

I think when I was young I definately had a curiosity about it. I didn't really know the term "nudist" until I was older...maybe a teenager. When I learned of the term it caught my fascination and I wondered if I could "be a nudist". But I didn't try it till years later and once I did I realized I probably had that tendancy all along. Yet I've met plenty who never have had that tendancy.
So...I wonder. Is there a nudist GENE? Are we born with this tendancy? Hmm....

When I about eight years old, I realised I was envious when I noticed two or three boys of around my own age enjoying the freedom of running around nude near my grandmother’s home. Later in the R.A.F I became accustomed to communal showers, where you would have been ridiculed for showing undue modesty and whilst serving overseas I swam nude on a few occasions and knew that I would never willingly wear a swimming costume again. However, it took about thirty years to reconcile my desire (need?) for nudity with my Catholic religion.

I have always liked to stay nude. When I was young and lived with my parents I only stayed nude when I was alone. I also played nude with my cousins (two girls) when I was about 10-14 years old. We undressed in the hay in a barn at our farm and it was a great feeling.
When I was 18 I started with public nudity. I followed a girlfriend to a nudebeach near and from that day we both continued with that. We still know each other and sometimes meet at the nudebeach.
Feel free to contact me if you like to chat or e-mail.

My parents would go out of town often enough and I would take any chance possible to get around the house nude.
I also tried my best to get friends to go nude (streaking at the time, it was the 70's) whenever I could. This was when I was much younger (10-11 at the oldest). When I started getting fat and watched other guys start to develop while I did not (I had to have it induced when I was 15-16 because the doctors said that if I didn't, I wouldn't start until I was almost 20 and I would be 6'8" at least), I got very shy about my body, though I still knew that being nude was best, I couldn't get over the shame and fear.
Justin
It was at a pretty young age for me. I was introduced to swimming nude at the YMCA in the late '50's and have never liked a bathing suit since then.
My first "mixed company" nudity was with friends when I was in my early 20's and I have been as active in the lifestyle as I can be since then.

When I was about 10 or 11. A group of up to a half dozen of us, (all boys), would hike a fair way into nearby woods and "go naked". We would spend most days in the warm weather playing nude, climbing trees, building forts, etc. Wonderful days! I have loved being nude ever since.

For me it didn't really happen until 2 years ago at the age of 25. Three years ago my husband took me to the Greek Isles for our honeymoon. We did spend time nude but I didn't really feel comfortable doing it. Then 2 years ago we again went to a nude beach, this time Haulover. I just relaxed and said I wasn't going to worry about wearing even my g-string bottom and just went nude the whole time. After a week, I actually started feeling strange when we went to our hotel pool and had to wear a swimsuit. Since then I like stay nude in our house (except in winter when it stays a bit too cool). I'm looking forward to going to France this year and spend a whole week naked!!
I think I've enjoyed going without clothes since I was a kid.
I've visited nude beaches here and there over the years and thought, "thats the ONLY way to enjoy the beach!!"
After going to some resorts like Caliente, Paradise Lakes, and one nearer home, Berkshire Vista, we realised how enjoyable, and relaxing the lifestyle can be.
Sagacious- You guys might want to try a resort visit sometime. We love it and are planning our next.

I gave up pajamas at 15. Shortly thereafter, I started venturing outside after dark. This phase (or so I thought) passed.
Cut to thirty-five years later. I own a house with a big back yard and a tall fence, and it suddenly occurs to me, "Hey, I have a big back yard and a tall fence."
Off came the clothes, and they stay off as much as possible.

I would have to say that I knew it at about age 5. When I was about 9 or 10 I made it a point to be nude outdoors at every opportunity. We lived in the country and there were plenty of places in the woods to run around without any clothes on.

Although I somehow missed the streaking craze, I umm.., ahem.., tried to get a couple of my friends to streak with me once. One was all for it, the other would have no part of it, so it didn't happen..... (well, almost, we actually did do it, but still wearing underwear (only)) I always figured the opportunity would present itself again without the protesting friend, and I think it was clearly understood between us that the next time would be "underwear free", but the opportunity never came.

I discovered the joys of going nude early in my teens on the farm. I skinny dipped in the river and ponds. I wlaked through the woods nude when I could. I started driving the tractor nude when cultivating the crops. I was nude whenever I could. My first nude beach experience was what really hooked me. That was in the very late teens when in college. Beleive it or not only recently. My husband and I moved to South Florida last year from way up north Brrrrrrrr!! LOL... I started at home to go naked more often then not... taking every oppurtunity to sunbathe topless at home when I could.. We made our first visit to Miami and South Beach, and I was able to go topless and really enjoyed it, even though it was my first time in public... I may be taking baby steps compared to all of you, but it's a start..

Like many of you have mentioned, I too began exploring going clothes free at about the age 10 when no one was home. I would even have dreams as a child about just playing durning the day in our neighborhood without any clothes on. Since being married my wife and I have explored secluded camping spots, beaches, Club Orient nakkie. And yes, always running around the house naked!!

While I had enjoyed sleeping nude since my teens, I never really considered myself a nudist. In 1991 my wife & I went to Orient Beach in St. Martin and I had my first social nude experience. After we got back to Long Island, NY we noticed an article in the paper about a local nude beach on Fire Island & went there to "try it out" -we've been going ever since. In my dentists office a few months later, I was reading The Utne Reader & a card fell out of it -it was a card for ordering different magazines, including a couple about nudism. I kept the card & ordered the nudist magazines. After reading the magazines, I knew that I was a nudist & have never looked back. My wife took a bit longer to come around, but eventually she became more comfortable being nude and we're going back to Club Orient next month at her suggestion.

Maybe this is a good argument for more of them going into private practice? At least until they can get it right.
Yes, they could "practice' on their relatives and any other unsuspecting victims they could get until they get it right.

I kinda knew that I liked being naked way back when I was in grade school, in the '60s. I had some Navy time in the early '70s and spent the last 20 months in San Diego. When I heard about "Blacks Beach" and then going I was hooked. I acctually kept a change of clothes in my car. This way if I left early, it was a straight shot to the beach. Since then I have been to places in N.J., Fla., and Colo. I now reside just outside of Denver. I mostly layout in my back yard. I have been to a few places Colo. A Few Hot Springs and local clubs. In fact I'm going to "Orvis Hot Springs" over Memoral Weekend. Everyone enjoy and have fun.

For as long as I can remember I never liked wearing clothes, but grew up in a textile lifestyle. I would have to sneak off when growing up at home to be nude. Now I'm nude as often as I can be. (which isn't enough)

I can remember being 10 or 11 years old and never liking to wear clothes. I would come home from the beach and stay nude in my room as long as I could. At the time I live in NJ and read about Sandy Hook. Once I got my license I went there for the first time and all I can say is I was hooked

I remember being aware of nudism when I was very young. I learned about it from TV. There were comedy skits on Laugh-In and the Carol Burnet Show based on nudist situations. There was also a McDonald’s commercial in which a car is seen leaving a drive-through window and then turning onto a lane marked with a "Nudist Camp" sign while the voice-over states something about not having to dress-up to go to McDonald‘s.
I was intrigued by nudism; however, I was very self-conscious and never allowed anyone else to see me nude. When I was in Junior High School, we had to take group showers after gym class. I was okay with this because everybody had to be nude. It was sort of an "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" situation.
During puberty, I had acne and became even more self-conscious. I would never go without a shirt because I didn't want people to see the acne on my shoulders and upper arms. I later figured out that my acne was triggered by potato products. Baked potatoes, French fries, and potato chips would all cause me to break out. To this day, I can’t eat potato products without developing acne.
When I was in college, I went to a beach near Santa Cruz with some friends from my dorm. There were a few nudists on the beach. This was a completely new concept for me. It wasn't the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" situation that I had experienced in Junior High. They were nude because they enjoyed being nude and they didn't care if anyone else was nude. I didn't go nude that day due to peer pressure from my friends; however, it looked like fun and it completely changed my attitude about being nude.
After that experience, I think I underwent a rubber band effect relative to my earlier behavior. I bought a copy of TNS's World Guide to Nude Beaches and visited a few of them in California. I didn't visit any resorts because most of them seemed to discourage single male visitors.
I feel very fortunate that I found a woman to marry who shares my enjoyment of nude recreation and we have since visited several resorts and beaches together. We have also made our backyard as private as possible and have put in a swimming pool.

I heard about a nudist resort when i was about 6 or 7 and i thought that that was cool and i wanted to try it, but didn't get to i think because i was so young and not taken ver seriously. I would say i new i was a nudist when i was about 10 or 12. I started sleeping nude all the time and really wanting to go to nudist resorts and beaches, but never told my mom. In high school i started doing all my chores nude after school when my mom was at work, and during the summer i laid out on the back deck a few times and fell in love with the feeling of the air and sun shine on my entire body. I finally went to a resort in june and have been to the others in the area since then. I absolutly love the experaince of not haveing to wear anything anywhere. When I'm getting ready to go home i find it very hard to put clothes back on, though i have gone home a couple of times nude. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As far as I can remember as a kid I was really shy and refused to take clothes off anywhere even on the beach, I think I was into my twenties (almost 40 years ago!!) when I realised I actually enjoyed not wearing clothes. Now, my wife has trouble having me keep my clothes on, I'm no longer shy about it in any way.

I think around thirteen... I was alone and walked around nude in my house, but then threw caution to the wind, put on my sandals and opened the door to my backyard, walking around there, i loved it. The only reason i don't shake off flipflops is cause I hate when my feet get dirty, I dunno a quirky pet peeve of mine. Then I went skinny dipping in my pool and I was hooked, whenever I'm alone I'm nude.

As far back as I can remember I loved being naked. I grew up with a neigbor girl and we used to take our clothes off all the time. There was a neighborhood sand box that all the kids went to right next to my house. One day my friend and I took off our clothes and the other neighbor lady saw it and called our Moms to tell them we were naked. We werent very old so I dont remember what ever came of it. As we grew older we both had swimming pools and we were always trying to swim naked when we could. My Dad used to skinny dip at night and for 4 years I could almost everyday before I went to work. Man that was the life. My Mom and Dad went away alot over a couple year stretch and we lived back in the woods and I was naked during the day and at night I would go out walking, it was so nice. I live in town now but am naked at home almost all the time and I go to a clothing optional resort a couple times a summer. Peace http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I would go nude as a teen when possible, but didn't really consider it nudism.
Then Mary and i experienced our first social nudism on vacation in Jamaica. It was fun and felt naughty at first, but we soon realized it was just a way of life for most there. Unfortunately, back in New England, we had niether the weather nor the facilities to continue.
We went to an open house at a small nude campground near our house in Florida 3 yrs ago and have never stopped. If you have a reluctant spouse or your own concerns, the open houses are a great way to go see a nudist facility while still clothed.

When I was growing up as soon as I was old enough I'd head out to the sand dunes or the beach and the clothes would come off. As with Nudist_in_Tn, summer months growing up in Florida that was O.K. as well. As I got older it gradually got not as acceptable, so there was the around the house when nobody else was home and the sneak out in the yard. I just remember ALWAYS looking for an excuse to get out of my clothes.
Elementary School all the way through High School on weekend nights, even if I had friends over spending the night, I'd wait till the parents went to sleep at night then I'd sneek out and walk around just to feel the wonder and excitement of being nude, JUST BECAUSE IT FELT GOOD. And more times than not they'd join me. Runnin nekkid around the streets of a quiet North Florida Beach town at 1:00 in the morning... Life was so simple then...

I was between 10 & 11 years old when I was left home alone. I wanted to do something I could not normally do and the first idea to come to mind was to run around the house naked. I did and enjoyed it so much that at every opportunity I would do this and it escalated into doing my chores in the nude when home alone and my homework. Swimming class in the eighth grade was all male and, yup, no swim suits. I took gym the first two years of high school just to be in the swim class to swim nude. Started sleeping nude in college and had no problem with my roommate he slept nude also. I am nude most of the time at home now temperature permitting.

Only started considering myself a nudist for about a year and a half...
but started sleeping nude at about 7 yrs old., and went nude for most two weeks while my family was on vacation...
I stayed home and was nude most of the time (age 15)...
I have always enjoyed opportunities to be nude when I could...
went nude on my in-law's remote property while house sitting...
and did some nude rock climbing, and hiking...
now that my kids are grown, the wife and I are always nude at home...
so i guess it was time to identify with nudism...
we just renewed our Naturist Society membership last month, so we are into our 2nd year of that..
we are looking forward to many years of being "nudists"...

Had my first social nudism experience while still in college.

For me, I would say since puberty, although I didn't realize it then. When I was young, I used to go back in the woods, strip down, and run around naked for a few minutes before I would get scared that someone would see me and get dressed quickly.
When I married my first wife, I would lounge around nude. She was reluctant, but accepting of my practice. I became quite comfortable nude and working the night shift, I would be nude all day at home in a little garage apartment behind the main house. Unfortunately, one day the landlord had someone working at the main house and there were children around. Not realizing anyone was there, I ventured outside for some air. Being there were no neighbors for a mile or so, I figured it was safe. NOT! I quickly ran inside, but the "damage" was done. I was arrested later that afternoon. Now over 30 years later, I still venture outside my home but am quite cautious.
I guess some of us are born nudists. It's great that we have sites like CFF, NFN, Yahoo!360 and others to express our natural desires. If more people would realize that being nude is really a healthy way of life, then we can become more free to live the life we are destined for. By keeping nudism separate from sex, we can make life happier, healthier, and rid the world of false facades of idealism.

I guess it started when I was a kid. In the summer time, we didn't have to wear clothes to bed because of the humidity and we didn't have an air conditioner. But simply being able to run around the house without clothes on didn't make me consider myself a nudist. Then, sometime in the late 70s, there was a show on ABC called "That's Incredible" They did a show about a place called Naked City, Indiana. I didn't realize at the time that it was really a nudist resort, but from then on, I realized that since I already liked being nude, I might as well call myself one. But then again, I didn't really have a lot of opportunities to be a nudist, either.
It does remind me of one time that I did go out into the front yard one morning just to try it in "public." Of course it was about four in the morning, so there wasn't a lot of "public" up at that time of the morning. :-) I had gotten the idea from a friend who really did try it and was a few years older than me. He was always trying crazy ideas. At the time, the streaking craze was going on across the country. We lived behind a fabric store, so one day, he decided to ride up to the back of the store on his bike, strip down, and ride all the way around the store. I remember that there were several kids at this point running around him, so I'm not sure if any adults actually saw him. He rode once around the store, back to his clothes, put them on, and that was that. Now I'm not saying that streaking is nudism, but it certainly got me thinking about it. Plus, swimsuits kept getting smaller and smaller, so I figured that eventually, people wouldn't wear them at all. Boy, was I wrong about that!
But all in all, I'd say that I knew that I was a nudist since I was about 9 or 10, socially since I was about 23 or 24, and have been ever since. It's a great stress reliever. As they say, "shed your clothes, and your woes!" It really works for me.

We lived in the country and had a lot of area that was wooded and I loved to go out in the woods and take my clothes off and just lay around or swim in the creek that ran through the land so I guess ever since I was about 8 or 9 yrs old. When I moved out on my own I would be nude all the time at home and even would take walks in the north woods just to feel the sun and air on my skin...nothing like that feeling of freedom.

I have always been fascinated with the sensation of nature and nature's elements on my bare skin ever since I was a teenager. I did it hiddenly when I was alone back then because I grew up in a very small town and I guess it would not have been considered "proper" or I felt like someone would consider it "naughty" if they ever saw me. That didn't stop me from sneaking naked dips in a park creek, or running outside naked when alone at home to experience the sunlight, rain, or even snow. I even did a snow angel once totally naked and ran back inside the warm house! That makes for a very cold behind!! :)

I remember that at age 6 or 7 I thought that being naked was great. At age 10 or 11 I started getting naked whenever the family was out. In my teens I did the skinny dipping thing with the guys. That was about it till I got into my very early 40s and decided that this nudity thing was still with me and I need to try it out. The rest as they say, is history. Realizing that I am a nudist has helped me in so many ways. I think that being honest with yourself makes you a better person.

I quess when I was in my early teens, used to skinny dip with friends at a near by pool at night. In high school we had to swim nude in gym class. In college during the early 70's nudity was not a big deal and half way prevelent. Got away from it for the most part due to job and family. Still used to skinny dip at night in my pool after getting home from work during the summers. Am now retired and choose to go naked when able at home, wife not into it but allows me.

First discovered there was such a thing as naturist during a bus trip in Croatia (then still Yugoslavia), when the bus had to load and offload passengers at a naturist resort.
A couple of years later, I went naturist myself by taking the boat to a small island reserved for nude sunbathing, also in Croatia. Since then I have been to beaches and resorts in Sweden, Netherlands, Greece, US.

I really never thought about it very Much ,as a young boy growing up in east Tennesse , we lived in a remote area , back then called Heiskel station . Me my brother and a couple of neighbor kids would play in the woods go skinny dipping ,and seeing as we didn't have a bathe room in the house we bathed out side in a big wash tub during the summer month.
Then later on swimming nude at the YMCA, I always enjoyed being nude then 11 year ago I started doing a lot of nude hiking which became a passion for me but only concidered my self a naturist until 3 years ago I tried socially nudity and became a member of a nudist resort, Being retired I practially lived at the resort during the summer months ,it was then I realized I was a nudist .It took me a life time to discover socially nudity but will spend the rest of my life as one .I now live nude 24/7 only dressing when I must.

I have known I was a nudist since I was 11. At that point my older brother who was 13 and I decided to start sleeping nude. When my parents "caught us" we told them we preferred not to wear clothes unless we had to. It took a few months but my parents ultimately relented and agreed that unless company was over, we could be nude all the time. After that we never wore clothes at home and in fact would strip as soon as we got home from school. Interestingly our father who was only in his 30's at that point saw how comfortable my brother and I were and started not to wear clothes around the house either. So my mother ended up being in a house with three guys who were nude most of the time and it did not seem to bother her at all.
I can't remember a time I didn't prefer to be nude. As a teen, I frequently went to skinny dip parties, and a bunch of us would go camping and just stay nude. I didn't know a whole lot about nudism/naturism at all. Just lived with a feeling of being nude beging right, and never felt there was anything wrong with it. Later when I got married I just stopped being naked casually, other than showers, and to and from the bathroom - didn't really give it a lot of thought. My wife was from a very modest family culture, and I guess I never really made any decision not to be nude it was just one of the things I did, staying clothed, for the first years of marriage - as I said I didn't really associate being nude with a philosophy or a movement. I started to feel around 15 years in to the marriage that feeling like I'd rather just be nude, but at that time I had kids, and as an adult, and a follower of Christ, and involved in ministry etc. I needed to know what the bible had to say about it. I still deep within felt there was nothing wrong with being nude in non-sexual circumstances.
SO I began a study of the subject both the psychology of it, being a parent and the spiritual/biblical issues. For me, I had a revelation that it was indeed a very healthy lifestyle both in terms of freedom and body image but also spiritually, getting back to the "garden of Eden" so to speak, and being more celebrative about how God created us and what seperated us from God in the first plac`e which was sin/shame/guilt etc, which if I believed what I said I believed then that was a dead issue, and our modesty/guilt/shame issues had to go. Once it was a spiritual issue, and I was clear what God was saying to me, I had a family meeting . . . ha that was an interesting experience I can tell you ---the net result is that we from that year on have practiced an open household, clothing optional. I am nude 99% of the time, my family too, but slightly less. I have been honest with friends, and I don't run for cover when there is a knock at the door, although I keep a robe near by in case someone comes by who may not be so "open" to the lifestyle.
Out of our closer friends, I have had the blessing of finding acceptence - - - that with only one exception, all of them either understood or shared the feelings, and the only other exceptions were the ones that wanted to hear the spiritual and biblical basis for our choice. NOw our friends and I and my wife, and kids have a naturist home church/bible study, and share social naturism together when we get the chance.
My children, adjusted really well, and that was almost 10 years ago. They are nude sometimes, clothed sometimes, but have an incredibly healthy body and self image, and have become really great young people that I am very proud of. My wife and I are closer than ever, and the only stress i have currently are the times I have to actually put on clothes to be in the textile world. But as a Christian I believe we weren't supposed to hold up in a holy (naked) huddle but be part of the world around us.
Side note: I started my own business, and there are indeed "very casual fridays".
best to all!

Hi nb420s,
What a great story. It was nice to hear that your parents were accepting of you and your brother's preference to practice naturism. It's nice that your dad is comfortable enough to share the experience with you and your brother. But what really impressed me is that your mom is so accepting. I understand being comfortable with nudity with your dad, but it's really great you and your brother were also comfortable being nude with your mom.
You mentioned "being caught" sleeping nude and it taking a few months for your parents to allow you and your brother the be nude at home. That fact that your folks weren't judgmental having "caught" you and your brother along with you and your brother feeling comfortable to express your feelings about nudity really shows the terrific open-minded and accepting nature of your parents. You are very fortunate!
What did you do to ease them into letting you practice nudism? Did you start off by gradually being nude more when they were around to get them used to the idea or did you just stop wearing clothes hoped they would be okay with it?
Now that you are older, are your folks still okay with you being nude when you are together? Do you and your brother still share nude experiences with your dad?

I guess I've known I disliked clothes since I was about 6 years old and would not stay in my pajamas for anything. I actually won that battle and have slept nude ever since.
Although the bedtime nudity was tolerated general nudity was not. I just tended to wear as little as possible. Mom was not nudist but was sympathetic and allowed me to run around naked if my sisters and father weren't around. So I guess I had more freedom than most.
As I got older I would often be naked around my friends as we played in a heavily wooded field nearby and in the new houses being built in the neighborhood. Even through high school I was frequently skinnydipping with friends, whether they joined me or not, and by then I knew what nudism was.
Right after college I was quite serious about my nudism, visiting resorts and beaches and almost never dressing when people came over to visit. Some thought I'd gone around the bend, and when I think about it now I'm surprised that so many of them actually took it in stride. A few became so accustomed to it that they even invited me to be nude in their homes as well. Gradually though, career and family distracted me from my ideal and nowadays I'm a home nudist when it's convenient, but as often as not I'm on the go and dressed until I get ready for bed. Maybe when I retire I'll get to be a "real" nudist again.
I truly believe we are born to be nude. It's in our DNA.

I can't believe I haven't responded to this thread, being it's about 2 years old (lol).
I never thought of myself as a nudist per se, but I really never did like to wear clothes during the summer months. As a kid, I would strip whenever the house was empty and spend the day nude. I would walk out back and enjoy the sun with caution, as I grew up in the country, so the chance of a farmer showing up was sure to happen at any time. But I never got caught.
Over the years, my love for the 'nude' life has always followed me. I have gone in spurts of either wearing and not wearing underwear for a periods of time until years ago when I decided against them forever. I no longer own a pair, except for silk boxers that I wear with dress slacks, but that's it.
I have slept nude for many years, so that wasn't an issue either. It wasn't until about 5 years ago until I decided to give this "going around the house naked" stint a try. It was a choice I made due to a personal tragedies, that I will not repeat, but in short, I decided life was too short, so live it to the fullest.
To this day, I try to live the nude life as much as possible. The wife has become accepting of it, but I am scantly covered around the other family members. They have since become accepting of it as well. It's just too bad that I didn't discover the nude life 'full time' before.:smoking:

I am really begining to wonder if I belong here. While many of the people that post on this nudist site, and other similar sites, have never been nude outside of their own house - I have. I have been nude at home; around/in our pool; so far I have visited three different nude beaches (multiple times); and I have been to two different nudist resorts as well as to a non-landed club's indoor nude winter swims. I guess the common thread is that I enjoy nude recreation.
My clothes: Do I hate them? Do I hate wearing them? Do I love them? I've gone into debt for them! The majority of my clothes have come from Bloomingdale's and I'm proud of each and every one of my selections. I'm known to match my (ever so colorful) socks to shirts and ties for work, to have an Armani suit, Hugo Boss Sport Coat, Ralph Lauren Shirts etc. all the way down to my Cole-Han shoes. Do I hate my clothes? HELL NO! Why would I hate my clothes; I've gone to great lengths picking them out and paying for them!
Enjoying being nude, enjoying nude recreation, and having fun at nudist venues does not in anyway suggest that one would hate their clothes or hate wearing clothes. As my textile mother would say, "there is a time and place for everything."

Interesting points. There are lots of people here who have never tried nude recreation socially. On the other hand, there are many of us who have done a lot of it. While some may actually hate wearing clothes, my guess is that they are a small minority. The rest of us wear them when appropriate and, if we think of it all, we are glad to have them.
All of this is appropriate when one considers the purpose for which CFI exists. There are other forums available, some of which are closely restricted to those who actually practice social nudity.

I can relate to this statement I hate wearing clothes I can also relate to the statement I love them ..
Clothes or necessity in our society and a necessity and quite frankly everyone enjoys them to some point.
Everyone’s truly spends a great amount of time and money to buy exactly what makes them look there best while wearing clothing ,, this is also why true nudist as in many resort or as relaxed as they are ,,,, clothing generally equals some sort of façade ( an image proceeds by what we are wearing ) in the nudist community you truly are what you are.
Here a very simple experiment anyone can do.
First the next time you see someone wearing jeans and workshirt ,,,
( think for moment what your opinion is )
Second when you see someone in a business suit well starch shirt well polished shoes
and the proper matching tie….
( think of your opinion again )
Then the next time you enter a nudist resort think about the two instances
You may find a surprise by what your thinking.
New territory is always uncommon / education helps .
I guess i just love the sun and the feeling of being free.

Realised back in 1980 when I was aged 10 and saw the late 1970's BBC Doco 'Lets Go Naked' on TV here in Australia. Beforehand I thought I was not normal in wanting to go nude anywhere, and then when I saw this doco, it opened up a whole new world for me, thankfully.
I prefer living simply I guess. Naturism, nudity, whatever, just seems to fit my desire to simplify. I love the freedom and feeling of being nude, in private and social situations. The lack of competitive consumerism, and the lack of bodu issues - for those reasons, I just plain prefer it.
I don't feel one way or the other about the way others feel so much as prefer situations where I am free to be nude. My house, clothing optional. No requirements or judgements either way. My social situations, more nude now then not, but no judgements there either. My laundry, less. I don't hold up, however, a hermit and turn down social situations because of the need to be clothed. That would seem to be more a cause, or obsession and my life, the more I can arrange it---well, simpler is better for me. A long story I won't go into, but let's just say it is a health choice, and my life has not always been simple.
So, I have found a blessing in the simplicity of being free to not wear clothing, and the feeling of it. The trust, surrender of body issues, all of it. And I chose to raise my kids that way - which has worked out well. And, although I love the feeling of being at resorts, and out in nature, it is that I just plain prefer the way it feels to not only be nude, but not to have yet one more thing to think about in a world where my own mental peace is, and was (especially) hard to come by.
Blessings,

I recieved a private message, and being a newbie, I have thought of ten things yet to post, and am not allowed to do private messages till then - so this being nuber three and my schedule being what it is, I will reply to private messages, but in time I guess, once I have posted a few more times. However, the idead of simplicity, is probably a seperate discusion anyway, as I believe it makes the naturism, a symptom, or outgrowth of a healthy life style and perspective on the untruths and complexities of our lives that mire us in stress and unhealthy perspectives on ourselves and others. So for me, naturism, and nudity, and believe me I love being a nudist/naturist/clothes free enthusiast, but it is an outgrowth of a walk through life, and growth in me, and I am a most flawed person needing much of that. ;-) For whatever reasons you have adopted this lifestyle, cheers to you.
To the private post - I am happy to take this to more depth off board soon as I qualify, or you send me address to email to.

I'm reluctant to call myself a nudist ("social naturist" is closer). I like being naked as often as I can -- I don't think of it as my 'lifestyle' but just a healthy, satisfying part of my life.
I started appreciating my own nakedness in my teens, first with swimming naked at age 14, then sleeping naked a few years later and regularly seeking out natural places where I could be naked outdoors. I did a lot of skinnydipping and nude hiking in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California from my 20s into my 40s, when I also gave up wearing underwear. These days I'm raising my teenage nephew, who like many teens is uncomfortable with nudity -- respecting his limits means I'm naked less than I might be otherwise. And that's OK -- when I get the chance to be naked, I appreciate it all the more.

I think it was in my early teens when I first wanted to be clothes free. As a kid it was regular trip to the nude beaches in the summertime. Then nude around the house when no one else was home. Once I got my first apartment it was always nude at home and that has not changed.

Hey: This is a fun question, because it got me to thinking about what and when I got into nudism. Like the other poster, I did not like wearing diapers, according to my father. So, it was an early-on thing for me, too. I was a "latch key" kid from elementary school through high school and coming home and taking off all my clothes was just what I did except in the winter. My father was fine with it, but my mother thought it was "tacky". So, I covered up when I heard her coming in. Pop, in fact, would let me keep on doing my homework or finish my chores bare, but would tell me to get dressed if he heard her. I could run around the house and garage all I wanted nude, but not so in the backyard, because there were neighbors all around. I did all kinds of fun stuff. My parents were gone over weekends for work, so I painted my room several times nude. Once, in fact, my Dad asked as a joke how much paint I got on myself in the process. Always washed the dogs nude. Since I still do most of these things, I guess I haven't grown up too much after all. I just love being nude and wish there were more places to be so.

I was first conscious that I enjoyed naked when I was a teenager, but the chances of being so then were few and far between. The only thing I did start doing from then onwards was sleeping in the nude. It was only when I was in my mid fifties, a couple of years ago now, that I decided that I really wanted to make the effort to get into the lifestyle, and I'm glad I did.

I think around 12 or 13 I started sleeping naked once or twice a week. Shortly after that, my oldest brother got his first apartment and I remember thinking that if I lived alone I'd never wear clothes at home, I just didn't see the point. As I got into high school, I started sleeping nude more often and would occasionally sneak out of the house at night to walk naked in the woods near our house. There was also a few occasions where my parents went away for the weekend and I would spend much of the time naked.
Of course, once I got out of college and was living on my own, I was naked about 50% of the time I was at home. But, I never really considered myself a nudist until a few years ago when I went to a nudist resort for the first time. I guess spending all day naked around strangers sealed the deal, I was a nudist.

When I was nine years old changing wet swimming suit to dry clothes, few bullies were doing ripping with towels and one did hit my balls which that really hurts me. Later, I had to show my nakeness to my teachers because I was complained that my balls is sore and could sit down in my classroom. Later on, I caugh my pool manager changing to get ready for his date and he didn't have any underwear. I told my mom and she said that it was alright some people do that. So, that point on I slept nake at night. One snowing night I did made nude angle in the snow. It was fun. Later on, I was caught running naking in my neighborhood and the police took me to the police station without any cover. It was fun but felt dumb. I couldn't do it anymore for awhile on. But, still I go on naking carefully. My mother-in law did caught me like three times and were more careful. Well, life goes on.

honestly - I was born a nudist. My parents had hells own time getting me to stay dressed as I grew up.
I was allowed to run around nude as a small boy, but for some yet unexplained reason, the stay dressed rule started being enforced around the age of 5 or so.
I always drug my feet getting dressed, and hated wearing clothes. They were (and still are) uncomfortable and cumbersome feeling. I just felt normal when nude and weird when dressed.

I think for me it was when I became a teen. I can remember staying nude if I was home alone. I grew up in NJ and when I found out about Sandy Hook I couldn't wait to go. There also used to be a nudist camp near where I grew up called Sunshine Park. It has been closed for many years. I always wondered what it was like back in the day.

As a teen, I questioned myself about why was nudity shameful. All humans look alike more or less, accounting for difference in sex. Anyway, I tried nude swimming and sunning on a deserted beach, and what I discovered was how comfortable it was without a wet suit, I dried faster, and felt warmer. I didn't chill sitting in wet shorts on the beach after going in the water. Frankly, I didn't know there was such a thing as a nudist at that young age. It wasn't until later that I learned about social nudism. In California there were a lot of "free" beaches, as they were called at the time. No longer. I really missed them.
wow - at least since i was about 15 or so, at least more in private. Over the years - more open, until now - virtually full nudist !

I didn't realize there was any such thing as a 'nudist' at the time but back when I was 7 or 8 years old every morning during the summer I had the same routine. I would listen for the garage door to close (my mom leaving for work-my dad left before I woke up), then I would get up and go look out the upstairs window to make sure she left and didn't come back in to get anything, then I would take off my PJ's and go downstairs to check the garage to make sure both cars were gone (I don't know why I kept my underwear on for that but I did), then once I confirmed they were both gone to work, I would take off my underwear and head out into the backyard and either lay on the lounge on the patio for a while or else just lay on the grass in the warm sunshine.
I did that for 3 or 4 years until one day I was laying in the sun and looked over to see my neighbor up on his roof cleaning out his gutters. He never said anything about it but he must have seen me. From then on I stayed indoors but it just isn't the same.

From what I have read so far, it sounds like I was one of the 'lucky ones'!!
I was raised as a nudist from day one. Clothing was not required in my family, and I even spent time at nudist resorts growing up. Even now, I don't wear clothes much.
Unlike some here, I don't go out of my way to be nude, I just don't think about it much. Most of the time, I just don't get dressed, it just isn't practical all the time.
My wife has taken to the nude lifestyle perfectly, and has now allowed herself to carry the label 'naturist'. She is nude almost all the time too.
I don't know how you textile people do it. If I had to wear clothes for swimming, sleeping, etc. I would feel really stuffy. Thankfully, I did not grow up in a textile family.
One thing I do notice is how being nude is such a 'big deal' to you who discover naturism later in life. For us who have been naturists all our lives, it isn't a big deal in any way.

I'd have to say that you're doubly lucky. First, you were raised by nudists, then you were lucky enough to find someone who also considers herself a naturist. It took me years before my better half would come around, and even today, she's still a little iffy sometimes.

In my pre-teen years my best friend and I could hardly keep our clothes on. If we were sleeping outside, we would be nude all the time and hike all over the area. When I joined the military I found there were other people who enjoyed being nude, though I'm not a very social person, it was reassuring to know that there are 'others' like me. I guess that's why I found this site also.

Most likely in my teen years. Never liked to have my clothes on. Started to sleep naked in college and went naked around the house after getting married. Did not realize until later in life, that nudist clubs existed. I thought that these clubs went out of existance with the hippies and the free love of the 1960's. Boy did I miss out.

Lying on Paradise beach, Mykonos in 1988. I was in the Air Force and a bunch of us got some time off and went out to the Islands from Athens. Initially I felt like I was doing something naughty, ya know, when in Rome, do as the Roman's. But then a French family came to the beach and set up not too far from us. They made it look so innocent and natural. It was at that time the light bulb came on and I realized I was the one with the hangups, not them.

Squirrel, I had the same experience --and feelings---around the same year (about 1990) and in the Greek Islands. Paradise beach is nice and most of the Greek Islands have nude bathing off the main beaches.
My first experience was at Chora Sfakia in Southern Crete. There is now a nudist resort above the beach apparently.

I think I knew by age 12. I remember it was a very hot summer and I was seeking some relief from my non air conditioned room. It was unbearable even after dark so I went outside in the back yard and stripped off my clothes and lay on a lounge chair.
I felt a cool breeze flow over me. I was hooked from then on.

For me it was an evolution as an adult. My first exposure to social nudism was when I lived in Germany. In Augsburg there is a lake where local nudist go on warm sunny days. Entire families including Grandparents would enjoy the day. I was in my late 20s. I enjoyed the visits, but I did not think of myself as a nudist, that came 10 years later...
I landed in San Francisco in the late nineties and happen upon a publication that ran an annual review of local nude beaches. I discovered Red Rocks. I traveled every available sunny day to hang out there. It was then I realized I had been a nudist for 15 years. Since then I not only enjoy the freedom of clothes free outside, but sleep nude as well. No surprise there.

I'm not sure 'exactly' when... all that I know is as a teen I would sunbathe topless in the backyard (just because I felt like it! lol). Then during my teen years, I was accepted to @ a very special "Arts Highschool" (<--- kinda like FAME except it was located in Miami, Fl & called N.W.S.A.) where we had nude models as part of our Art Education... more and more it started feeling 'normal' even though my parents were always very uncomfortable with their bodies. I do recall bein' a kid and accidentally walking in on my father one day in the bathroom, and everyone screamed bloody murder like someone was killed, or????!!!!!
Later during my 21st birthday, I just had this powerful feeling which came over me and I removed my top @ a park whilst living in London, England. It felt good & the person I was with was kinda shocked, but oh well! ha,ha,ha
I've always disliked feeling smothered by my clothes... being a hardworking outdoorsey type of person, one of my pet peeves has always been feeling so HOT with my clothes sticking all over me! Bah Humbug!??!?!?! No thanks, if I can help it!

Good question, and if I'm honest I really can't recall the moment when I was struck by a flash of lightening and the realisation dawned on me, however I was keen on chucking my clothes from an early age, I recall instances of naked frolics up to age 8, we moved home and I then recall running about woodland naked with friends and I skinny dipped in the River Severn up to mid twenties and the responsibilities of life took over.
It wasn't until I was in early forties that my tendency to strip off at home, much to my wifes annoyance, got me to thinking about naturism, but it wasn't until the divorce that I actually did something about it, now I'm a fully fledged naturist and attend loads of events, I've walked with the infamous 'Naked Rambler' and now I even get paid to go to events and meet lots of naked people.

The first time i remember when I went nude was at a friends house, I was about 6 or 7 and his parents were nudist (now that I remember back and remember the events). I spent the night at his house, he was naked within minutes of getting home and his mom encouraged me to do it as well.
It was the best feeling ever, not feeling ashamed of your body. I grew up in a house hold were you were made to feel ashamed of your body.
From there I went nude at home when ever I could and often at night in bed, no one ever knew and I never went back to my friends house from first grade.
At about 12, I told my friend my desire to go nude and he thought I was crazy, but I did it anyway and he actually joined me for a short period (we went skinny dipping)/
Things quieted down until I was bout 25 and had my son, not wanting him to ever feel ashamed of his body, I started back when he was 1, now that he is 8, we both are nudist and love the life style.
Although, i have not yet ventured out to resorts. Still not brave enough I guess!

Well, I think I discovered I was a nudist around the age of about thirteen or so. But since I grew up in a very strict non-nudist family, I was really unable to do anything about it unless I was in the privacy of my bedroom. Even then, I had to be extra careful because my parents could have walked in on me anytime! If I had been actually caught simply laying around or doing normal things like doing my homework or chores in the nude, I would have been killed on the spot! I figure of speech of course! So I have never been able to practice freedom of expression without clothes in my home like some other kids I knew did. I guess their parents or family were a lot more liberal.

I've always liked being nude. As I explained to a pre-school teacher friend of mine "you know the little kids who always get undressed in the middle of class and run around naked, that was me I just never grew out of it." I guess when I first heard of nudism was from TV. I remember watching a Designing Women episode with my Mom when I was a kid where they get hired to redecorate the clubhouse at a nudist resort and it's played for laughs. I remember thinking "that looks really cool I want to do that." Also I saw things about it on those daytime trashy talk shows that were on all day every day when I was a kid. First details that I got on nudism was on the internet when I was in High School. Found out that there were a few resorts in Georgia and I said to myself, as soon as I turn 18 I'm going to one of those places.

For me, the realization that being naked is more comfortable than wearing clothes came to me around the age of 13 or 14. It was something I did for fun when I had the house to myself, but at this point the concept of nudism/naturism was still foreign to me. I didn't really start considering myself a nudist until I discovered it around the age of 16.

I was first conscious of wanting to be nude at something other than bath time at age 12 or 13. It helped a lot that my parents, though not nudists, had a relaxed, enlightened attitude about nudity and the human body -- all us kids are quite comfortable with our bodies. By high school I slept nude and was sunning nude and skinnydipping whenever possible, and in college I started going without UW occasionally (I went commando 24/7 about 12 years ago).
I'm not sure I qualify as a 'real' nudist in the eyes of some. I'm nude as often as I can be as a regular part of my life, but not as a "lifestyle" or because of some strong personal philosophy.

To make a long story as short as possible, I started out sleeping in the nude as an adolescent, and I would also occasionally go skinny dipping.
In my twenties, after graduating from university, I spent some time doing some travelling. My first real experience of organized social nudity was at the Swanbourne Beach near Perth, Western Austalia. This was in April, which is in the early autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. I remember the weather being absolutely sunny and beautiful and the water of the Indian Ocean being warm and crystal clear.
After Australia, I headed to Japan, where one of my college buddies was working as an English to Japanese translator. Some of his colleagues and I did a night out on the town, which included a visit to an onsen, which is a geothermal hot spring. According to Japanese tradition, both genders bathe fully nude in an onsen. I found lying about in the hot water of an onsen to be one of the most relaxing experiences ever.
As positive as these experiences were during my travels, I ended up in my thirties immersing myself in my career, so I did not have to much time to do much in the way of clothes free recreation. It is only recently that I have been able to arrange my free time so that I can get away more on the weekends. However, I am having the time of my life now that I am able to participate in clothes free activities on a regular basis.
Take care and stay bare.

For me it was in my early teens, had seen a programme on TV where the people were camping nude, as i was in the house by myself for a couple of hours, thought i would go nude.
Made the most of these occasional hours here and there. Didnt get nude socially with others until my late 20,s
I also remember seeing a TV program back around the late 60's or early 70's where the host visited a nudist camp. That sparked my initial interest. Then I started doing a little skinny-dipping in my early 20s, including a party with people who were co-workers at the time. By this time I was also beginning to experiment with sleeping nude. By my mid-30s, I was completely hooked.
Nearly all my life I hated wearing clothes, but when I was about 16 me and my friends started skinny dipping and camping nude.

I got started at about the age of 12 or 13. At the time my family lived on a 80 acre farm and I liked to go out to the woods or the fields and take all my clothes off. It just felt right to be free of clothing and feel the sun and wind on my body. If nobody was around, I would do the same in the barn when I went out there to do my chores. Been hooked ever since.

I think I was 26 years old when I figured out I was a nudist. I started seeing information online and it started making sense.

For me it was when I was about 10-11 on a camping trip when I got up early one morning and went for a short naked walk in the woods. I didn't act on it much until the mid 90's though. Seems to be a common story here!

As long as I can remember. Being raised on a farm, and at the age of 6, and sort of taking place of the hired man, I realized how good it felt to get naked after working in the fields all day. Being in long jeans, and covered with hay chaff, or oats dust, it felt so good to get naked and just get that dirt off. When put on a tractor at that age, and raking the hay for baling, I realized it was more comfortable to be sitting out on the tractor (this was before the days of air conditioned tractor cabs), naked than having the sun burning through my jeans. So, even within sight of the main highway, I'd drive the tractors naked on hot days. Got great tans.

I was probably about 12 when my parents moved from the evils of the city to the rural county and I discovered how wonderful it felt to be naked outside. I would go for long walks through woods, corn fields, and vast open fields for hours at a time. It was about that time I started sleeping nude too. I have been nude at home off and on for as long as i can remember. Having a house full of kids and a wife that did not approve of me walking around nude in front of the children put a cramp in my style for many years. Now that the kids are grown and all but one of them are out of the house I have a lot more freedom, I still have to be careful to not offend my daughter, she does not like it when she catches me in the nude. Which is really funny since I know that she too sleeps in the nude. But I guess the short answer to the question would be about 37 years.

seems like i'm like everyone else. Grew up out in the country on a dead end wooded road. Loved going out to the woods, and playing in the woods naked.

I grew up in the country. During my early to mid teens I just seemed to have this drive to be nude whenever I was home alone. Nothing better than the feel of the breeze over my naked body to this day. Early experiences with skinnydipping convinced me it was the only way to swim. Then when I finally had the opportunity to visit a "nudist camp", I was convinced once and for all. Unfortunately my wife's experience was a horror story and we remain on opposite sides of this issue. She will not be convinced otherwise.

I remember enjoying getting naked and playing in the creek when I was as young as ten. But didn't do much more about it until I was in my mid 30's. Then I started to find ways to be nude when I could, but was really aprehensive about it. But while out hiking, I started to take off my shirt and shorts and enjoyed hiking nude. I didn't really consider myself a nudist and it was actually somewhat sexually stimulating to me. But I have considered myself a nudist now for about 5 years. Went to a clothing optional beach and really enjoyed it and felt like this was right for me. So now I spend time around the house nude after getting out of the shower, sleep nude some of the time, try to always be nude in the hot tub when possible, and if it is just me and the wife, I will get nude when possible out boating. If she would join in with me more, I would love it. She has joined me at a clothing optional beach and seemed comfortable, but last time we had a chance to go again, she wasn't interested. She will join me at the condo we visit in the private back yard and has been more relaxed being nude around each other. She just isn't comfortable being nude around other people.

My first post.
I still can't say definitively that I am a nudist, but I am certainly leaning in that direction since events starting in August 2008.
My history. I had a pool growing up and would occasionally skinny-dip when I had the chance. I couldn't get over the fact that not having a suit on could feel SO different than wearing just a pair of trunks. Throughout high school and college I would enjoy a few hours clothes free, but it wasn't until last August when something clicked that, "Yea, I like how this feels and it makes life so much more comfortable."
Our young-ish kids were away for the night and my wife was about to pack for their trip to see relatives when she stated, "It's hot in here, I'm packing naked!" That got my attention, as normally our nudity together was either bathroom or bedroom related. I followed her lead that night and haven't looked back. Since I work from home and my wife and kids were away, I had no reason to get dressed for a week other than necessary errands. It was fantastic. I loved how clothes felt foreign after not wearing them 24 hours straight. I also loved (but did not expect) how I seemed to have better posture, ate healthier and exercised more, and felt better than I ever had about myself (I was always the skinny kid and I felt I finally grew into my body in the last few years). When my wife came home I told her that first night that I spent almost the entire vacation nude. She was obviously surprised by my revelation but very understanding and really grasped my reasons and feelings - and most importantly never thought I was weird for wanting to be nude. As a side note, what she especially liked was that I was more willing than ever to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen. She is so understanding that she will be the one to pull the shades and tell me, “You’re going naked today, right?” She told me a few weeks after being home that she noticed a difference in me – more relaxed, helpful, and understanding (not bragging, that’s what she said). Was it the nudity? I think so.
So, that’s how I got started. Weather permitting I have spent many workdays nude at home while the kids are at school. My wife will join in on occasion (it has to be warm) for some naked Wii or lounging and she says I’ve converted her to sleeping more regularly in the nude. My response to that is, “Well, you got this whole thing started by packing that night!”
Don’t jump to conclusions however. While comfortable naked, I don’t think she would ever join in on a social setting and she most definitely would not call herself a nudist. I don’t know if I ever want a social setting either but after reading just about every web site out there, I think I could handle, understand, and appreciate the experience. I’m certainly looking forward to this summer as the wife and I have a small pool now too. She has never been skinny-dipping before but we aim to take care of that some warm night soon. As for me, I’ll see what I categorize myself as at the one year mark.
This sounds similar to my situation in some ways. I went to visit a friend of mine one year in the early to middle 90s in Loredo, Texas, and it was May so it was hot. In fact when the plane landed the pilot said it was 102 so I was ready for heat, but I live along the upper Texas coast so I wasn't ready for the dry heat and when I stepped off the plane the air litterally took my breath away. Anyway back to my story, I already knew that my friend hung around his house naked most of the time when it was warm, and after my experience I understood why, but for comfort I stripped down while I was visiting as long as it was just him and me. I don't know how long I was there but I'd say probably 4 or 5 days because that was usually the lengths of my visits, and we were both naked the vast majority of the time. Then in 1995 the same friend came to visit me for 10 days while my parents were on vacation and again the majority of our time was spent naked. I didn't consider myself as a nudist at that point though, I just knew I was comfortable naked and after that time if my parents went on vacations and left me home I stayed naked.
Now fast forward to one year ago, and my dad past away in 2006 so it's just my mom and I now, and she works for the school district and so is gone from about 6:30 every morning till about 3:15 every afternoon, and I work from home so when the weather started getting warm enough last year right around this time I realized that this was the perfect opportunity for a little naked time for myself.
Unfortunately I'm not able to be naked as much as I'd like because my mom doesn't want me naked while she's hear, but she knows about me liking to be naked and she knows that any time she's going to be gone for several hours, or if she is coming home from work early unexpectedly, to call so that I can get dressed before she gets home.
I don't belong to any nudist organizations and I haven't been to any nude resorts as of yet, and my thinking might change if I was ever faced with the opportunity of visiting a place where everybody would be nude and that I'd be expected to follow suit, but I feel that I am comfortable enough naked that if I ever meet any friends in my area who are nudists and they invited me to go somewhere with them I believe that I'd enjoy it.

For me it was when I turned 40. Since then I try to go to nude beaches and naturist clubs as often as I can. We are quite far from either. The closest beach is in Toronto. We did go to St Martin for a winter holiday and managed to go 4 days to orient beach. Being able to access information online from naturist associations helped at finding locations for social nudism.

I wouldn't say that I hate clothes, but I would say that I enjoy being nude. I remember being nude at home when no one was around when I was about 12 or so. Later at about 15 me and a few other male friends went skinny dipping in a secluded spot. It was great being naked outdoots, especially with other people. There is a nude swimming hole near my home town. I was introduced to it when I was about 14. It is a great place to go swimming and cliff jumping, not to mention to check out naked people. One day when I was 17, I went there to go swimming. I had no intention of going naked. When I got there I put down my things, took off my shirt, shoes, and socks, and then I looked around at all the other people ther, some clothed some naked. I remember feeling very nervious. Then I did it, I sliped my shorts off. WOW, I can't believe I am naked. It felt fantastic, even better when i went in the water. I have enjoyed nude beaches and swimming holes ever sense. I am nude at home much of the time and I even go nude in my back yard when the oppertunity arises.

Can't believe I've not posted on this thread before ... anyhow.
My family has a great story of catching me outside in the pig-pen, naked: 'cause I wanted to be like all the other little piggies ...
I'm not sure that that makes the associations that nudists want to make (gulp) ... But it suggests that my leanings towards nudism were pretty strong even before I can remember much myself.
We lived on a farm, and I'd wander the pastures naked when no one else was within eyeshot, like on a Sunday afternoon or at night, when everyone else was asleep.
In college I'd study naked in my dorm room -- it was still the era of gender-specific dorms, and it was a conservative school, and even in the dorms a person could be subject to ridicule for being naked ...
I was aware that there were nude beaches in Germany and France when I was in the Army, stationed in Germany: and (I've written this on another thread in this forum) finally went to a German sauna -- the first time was with an Army chaplain (bless him: I hope he's enjoying some naked place right now).
The great break-through was walking into Walden Books in a Greeley, Colorado, mall and finding Lee Baxendall's World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation and daring to buy it and take it home ... it helped me to become familiar with TNS ...
And with that, daring to try to find beaches and spas and resorts and recreation groups and swims wherever I went ...
But it was always something I thought I "did", rather than something I "was". I liked to be naked; I didn't identify myself as a "nudist".
And then there was the time when I was at a Naturist gathering in Maryland, maybe ten years ago: I went to a session on this very topic. And sitting there (naked) in the course of the conversation, came to the realisation that this was really something I was, not something I did.
Do I "hate clothes"? No, I still like to wear a tie and a shirt and trousers when I go to a concert or to church.
Am I as open about "being a nudist" as I could/want to be? No, it's not the first thing I tell people about myself; most people don't know.
But look at me now, with my (new) beginnings of another year of seamless tan ... it's a growing awareness of the cumulative effects of a fair amount of naked experience: yeah, after a while, I'm very aware that it's a pretty profound aspect of who I am at the core of my being.
Cheers,
WN

Looks like most of us started as young kids. I was no exception. Summers were spent at a canal swimming, usually skinny dipping. But then somewhere along the line we were taught that nudity was not acceptable behavior. Not until 20 something did i realize i would rather be nude. Then came children and another long clothed period, with an occasional sneak to a secluded sun bathing spot.. Now that we have the house to our selves again, I am happily nude whenever possible. My wife has never joined me but is at least accepting it now. She will even sit with me while i soak up some sun in the back yard. Maybe some day she will try it with me. More of those small steps.

I grew up in the country, so skinny dipping with friends was common. From about the age of 12, I would go into the woods alone, strip down and walk all over the place. The feeling of freedom and connection to nature has never left me. During my college years I saw and ad in the newspaper and got connected with a nudist group. I am now 52 and continue to enjoy nudism both at home and in social situations. Hiking in the woods is still my favorite thing to do.
i felt comfortsble when i am nude in a swimming pool at my 12 years old

I am guessing around 8 years old... Family swam naked in the backyard swimming pool. Then 8 years of baseball and other sports, 1000s of showers at high school and college amongst 100s of other men. A quite few skinny dipping nights, visits to nude beaches and resorts, showers at the gym, naked in front of roommates, various other situations where nudity happened. Now I am 32. I guess nudity does not bother me one bit.
