If your comfortable running around nude and showing off your body, then why would a swim suit be any different? Although I know what you are saying, but body acceptance is one thing that nudists try to promote, in that others to accept us as we are.
In any case, just about any other type of swimwear will suffice, other than speedos or thongs, I guess. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

I'm 51 yrs. old and have a big belly to. I really don't care what other people think if they see me nude or with clothes. I am happy with what god gave me. I have wore a speedo to a local public lake numerous times and just ignore peoples looks and/or remarks.

Hello, I own and wear a speedo at times. I was made the way that I am and if others dont like it they dont have to look. I am proud of my body, and If I must wear a bathingsuit I prefer to wear as little as possible.

Men with bellys wear speedos or smaller in Europe and at resorts worldwide. Women with all shapes wear bikinis.

Might I suggest the one you were born with ... it always fits.

Yes, but at most beaches this is not an option.

Nudists accept all body types, others do not. I'm fine at a nudist resort, but I won't go to the beach with shorts on. Its a leftover from my childhood with scoliosis. Being severly curved over (115 degrees when I was 12) and having people stare at me at swimming pools was never a fun thing. Nor was it fun for parents to tell my mother that I should not be allowed to swim with their kids. Nudists have much higher body acceptance, which is why I feel so relaxed on the few times my wife & I are able to go to a resort.

Yup, speedos would be out of question.
Try looking into buying pair of surfer shorts

Surfer shorts? Are you joking? Not going to happen.
Why do you say that Speedos are out of the question?

Here's the really bad news. That stomach is a sign of early morbidity.
Here's the really good news. With physician monitored diet and exercise, by next summer, all else being equal, you won't have to ask such a question, will feel better and reverse that signal of an early demise. I wish you good luck with that!
Meanwhile, Jams would do. Most have an elastic waist with drawstring and extend down to about the knee when standing.
Better yet, as some have suggested, CO beaches, nudist resorts, and a home pool dispense with the need for anything. But, except for competitive swimmers, Speedos rank in there with plaid Bermuda shorts worn with with knee-high black socks and wingtips.

When I was stationed in Hawaii, I purchased a Speedo and probably only wore it to the beach a couple of times. I had a little bit of a gut and some body image issues but what drove me to switch to a looser pair of swim trunks was the way the Speedo seemed to (at least in my mind) draw attention to my "package." I wasn't comfortable with that.
Now I don't have a problem being nude on a beach but I wouldn't wear a Speedo for that very reason. On a textile beach, I'd go with a pair of short trunks or running shorts.
After I retired from the service, the gut got bigger but I'm working on it for both health and body acceptance.

My answer to this is that you should wear whatever swimwear you like. I spent years worrying what others thought and I wasted a lot of time. Be yourself and be happy. Life is far too short. As for going on the beach in your birthday suit just make sure it is the right beach for that.

I don't think my advice was to YOU.
Speedo is out of question b/c it just would look ridiculous on anyone who doesn't have body for it.
I always say, just because it is made in your size doesn't mean you should buy or wear it. One should always wear things that accentuates their best features. A fat person wearing a speedo draws attention to their weight. Should an obese woman wear a 2 piece bikini? Obviously, not the best choice.
Speedos are best for those who have fit bodies, thin or have a swimmer's built.
I recommended a sufer's short because it is long and rests a little above the waist. It doesn't draw too much attention to the belly.
As much as a lot of people say that they do not care what others think about their bodies, that is a lie. We all care (some more than others) how we look and what others think. If that weren't true, we would not get haircuts, shower, get our nails down, shave etc etc etc

Maybe for you. I get my hair cut when it gets long enough to start bothering me. I take a shower because it makes me feel better. I never get my nails done. I shave because I don't like body hair.
Care to try again?

No, you failed to get my point. I don't want to confuse you any further.
I do care about how I look. That is why I workout, eat right and keep myself in shape. I am believer that first impressions are very important.

Thanks Croydon for your advise.
You are right just because something is in your size does not mean you should were it.
Good example anyone with a belly should not wear stripes going across, but shripes going up and down. Going across would only make your belly stand out more.
Today there are so many chioces so you can dress and look right no matter what your size is.
Thanks for your advise. I will look into surfer shorts.

Speedo makes a lot of different styles of swimwear. Just because it has a Speedo label on it doesn't mean that it has to be bikini style with a 1 inch wide waist. They also make full size shorts style swimwear that is very good quality and will last for years. I have had much better luck with the swimwear and shorts that they sell than other brands. They just do not wear out as easily.

Good for them. Telling heavy men they are too "ugly" to show their bodies in public is equal to telling them to go hide in a closet, or cover in a burka-like outfit. If a "suit" is required then a man of any size should be equally at home in a minimum acceptable suit.

Is that written in stone on the Required Clothing list? Might it not be a form of anti-men or anti-large prejudice?
Whatever happened to "body acceptance"?
If another man wants to wear a skimpy suit, who are you to tall him that he "doesn't have the body for it"?
Maybe he should just go and hide so as not to offend you with the sight of his body on the beach. Would that make you feel better?

Not at all. The amount of clothing that a person wears should not be an issue.
To me, I would like to be able to wear exactly however much clothing that I want to. This could vary anywhere from nude to long pants and a heavy winter coat. Arbitrary rules are what I do not like.

Craig Wilson, a columnist for USA Today, wrote this in June 2005:
Some truths we'd rather were less self-evident
Now that bathing suit season is upon us, it's nice to know that men who own Speedos can wear them once again on the beaches of Cape May, N.J.
Decades ago, the town fathers of the famous seaside resort took their Victorian roots to heart and banned males over the age of 12 from wearing skimpy bathing suits. I'm sure they had a good reason at the time, although no one in town remembers what that was.
But now the ban has been lifted. All bets are off. And so, too, are those baggy surfer shorts worn by multitudes of boys and men today. Speedos are back in at the Jersey Shore. Wear 'em if you got 'em.
One of the young women who works in a Cape May shop lamented the fact that the men who wear Speedos are rarely the men you want to see wearing Speedos.
Such is life. We don't always get what we want.
Rarely do we see women in bikinis who we think should be wearing a bikini, either. So I guess fair is fair.
Summer long has been a season of unsightly sights. Overweight men in Speedos. Love-handled women in bikinis. Halter tops that cause onlookers to halt for all the wrong reasons.
But I'm old enough now not to judge other peoples' bodies. I have a hard enough time keeping track of my own ever-expanding form. But as my grandmother used to say, people do look better in winter under that extra layer of wool.
Often the only redeeming sight at the beach are the children who run around with wild abandon, not giving a hoot what they're wearing. Often that's nothing at all.
And now the folks at Cape May are welcoming back the Speedo. God love 'em.
Anyone who has traveled to Europe or South America or Asia knows that Speedos are old news on those beaches. They have been worn there for ages. Young men, old men and millions in between. Every shape and size, too.
We saw 70-year-old men grocery shopping in Rio last year wearing nothing but Speedos and flip-flops. They traveled light as they searched for coffee and cigarettes. Not a soul paid any attention and, oddly enough, none of them appeared to care what we might have been thinking.
No, it wasn't always pretty, but there you have it.
Heck, women don't even wear tops on those foreign shores, and no one seems to pay any attention to that. And believe me, that's not always pretty, either.
But this is America, where politicians protect us from ourselves. John Ashcroft has even been known to drape modesty sheets over a semi-nude statue of a goddess, even though she never complained of the cold.
Ashcroft does not go grocery shopping in a Speedo, I'm sure. I would suspect Ted Kennedy, Dick Cheney and Bill Clinton don't, either.
Probably just as well. No need scaring the public unnecessarily.
But it's nice to have the choice. Lifting the Speedo ban in Cape May should be looked upon as democracy at work.
And democracy isn't always pretty.

We're all born with a propensity toward different body types. Some of us are muscular and well-proportioned, some are slender and spindly, some are short and stocky and a couple of googles of jillions of variations in between. Few of us are perfect!
We sag, crease, wrinkle and scar as time and gravity and life events etch their trail markers upon our bodies. That is what body acceptance is about. Not about tacit permission to be morbidly obese and unhealthy.
If you are obese, barring an untreatable medical condition, there are things you can do to treat or deal with the life-threatening problem. Obesity (and large bellies on men) are indicators of early morbidity (death). Doubt me, ask your primary.
Now, out of civility, empathy and consideration for others there is probably no nudist venue on earth where someone is going to be called-out or chided for their obesity. They will be accepted.
But, if you're particularly fat and male and wearing Speedo-brief swim wear, you're gonna generate a snicker or two. The same holds true for similar females who would wear thongs or Wicked Weasel Swim wear. It ain't sexy, it's silly.
But, it's a free world and if you want to be a ridiculous jack-a-nape, go for it. That's your right. Hell's bells, mow the front lawn in Speedo briefs, black knee high socks, and brown wingtips for all we care. There ain't no rules against it--unless maybe you take GQ seriously or Miss Tilly down the street snuck an amendment into the deed restrictions and community rules.

If you are confident, for my part, you can wear whatever you want. If next year it becomes fashionable for belly men to wear speedo's, nobody will talk about it anymore.
It is all in the mind of people. If you feel like, do it.
I do not have a belly....yet, but I have a handicap and I do not care when people turn their heads, and have something to say about me, dressed or naked. I am over that hill!!
