I've heard mixed things on Lee Baxandell, some opinions postive, others negative. I don't want to jump to conclusions.

I would like to know however what you guys think of him.

What little I know is that he is the author of "Lee Baxandall's World Guide to Nude Beaches & Resorts". Also, that he was one of the founders of The Naturist Society in the 80's.

Is there something I've been missing?

I don't know the man. I've only read stories and for me and my wife, we are grateful for his contributions to nudism and going all over heck to find places for us to enjoy nudism.

What kinds of things have your heard? As grandma used to say..."there's always 3 sides to every story, yours, theirs and the truth." What we've heard thus far has all been positive. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Everything I've ever heard about him has been very positive. He even had a bridge named after him and he's responsible for the Naturist Society that I very much support.

I've had the honor of debating with him on Rixplace.com (http://www.rixplace.com) and he's really sharp when it comes to nudist politics.

What did you hear that was negative? Was it factual or gossip?

Lee Baxandall (retired due to health) is a pioneer who we should all be grateful for and proud of. I certainly am.

Bravo MissouriBoy. There are a couple of folks in the forum who love nothing more than attacking others and their values. Lee B. has done a lot of good for naturism and I am saddened that there will no more editions of his great books. Maybe a family member will take up where Lee had to stop. I hope he is doing well.

I have met him a few times. He is a true freedom fighter. I have never heard anytime negative about him.

Lee ruffled many feathers among the old-line club nudists, but the major source of anti-Baxandell noise has been Nikki Craft, a former associate who's personal relationship with Lee ended bitterly. Craft now runs the Nudist/Naturist Hall of Shame (http://www.nostatusquo.com/ACLU/NudistHallofShame/), a site that 'exposes' Naturism as a front for pedophilia, swinging, pornography and sexual exploitation.

I think we could make a much stronger case for a "Textile Hall of Shame" a site that 'exposes' Textilism as a front for pedophilia, swinging, pornography and sexual exploitation.

AANR has done a lot to dissociate itself from resorts that try to mix sex and nudity and call themselves nudist. AANR needs to do more in that regard. AANR doesn't have to be "Them". It can be "Us" if we can find our way to positions of influence in the organization.

I have read that Baxandall had some business dealings with the founder of Elysian Press, a fellow who was reputedly open to swinging.

Well, I have had some business dealings with textiles and that doesn't make me a textile. I remain a nudist.

IIRC he was responsible for the book, World Guide to Nude Recreation. Think he wrote the original edition but later revisions have been passed down to others. Seem to think he had something to do with to early editions of Hot Springs of the Southwest, too.

Trailscout, hope you got my appology. I have Lee's guide to nude recreation, it's very well done. Iam a member of the AANR, I have never seen anything bad written about him, I'm also a member fo the Naturists society, They both addvertise for him and I guess I need to know more of what you mean. I have enjoyed his guide, it's very thourough, My beach is even mentioned in it. Clothing optional if you dare. I think he has given many good things to our life style. But I'm open to your oppion. Later the RAT.

Riverrat,

I think we have seen things eye to eye all along and just didn't know it.

We have all lost our tempers and had to back out of an inaccurate remark. Ain't no big deal!

As for Baxandall, all I meant was that he had a business relationship with a fellow who led an immoral life, but that should not affect how we feel about him. At least in his public life, Lee Baxandall has been a great leader for naturists through the years and also published some fine travel guides.

I once dated a girl who was best friends with the girl my best friend was dating. Well, my buddy's girlfriend's parents convinced her that her boyfriend was some kind of car thief. Then after she broke up with my buddy, she told me that she could not associate with me because I was friends with her "criminal" boyfriend.

I wish I had thought of it, but I should have said, "I won't have anything to do with you either, because you are the ex-girlfriend of a crook!"

The truth is, my buddy bought and sold cars to make a little extra money and that paranoid family figured that proved he was a car thief.

Now I don't know why some nudists don't respect Baxandall. I have never heard a bad word against him.

ERCNY, now I know why upstate NY has no nudists, you need to join a nudist organistiastion (wow spelling they should teach it in schools), I suggest the AANR and the tssc, thats a landed Jersy based club with Mike and Janet Gesner, two very concerned Nudists, (tri state sun club), it's in the book. I have emailed them a few times about our lack of places nearby to go for nude recreation, Southwichs is ok but could also land you a healthy fine, I think it was you said you'd been caught. well join a few of these orgs, they can help. Later the RAT, is it snowing there?

We were lucky enough to cross that bridge named after him at Desert Shadows Inn in Palm Springs. This last week end.

Why do you "debate" with everyone? You sound like someone who is very mad, cant we let others have an opinion wihtout trying to make them change their mind?
Just my opinion
