Why have outspoken critics of Iraq and the Bush admin been put on the "no fly" list?
This has happened a number of times, and it seems to be happening with more and more frequency.
This is but one example (http://smirkingchimp.com/article.php?sid=25015&mode=nested&order=0)

Maybe it's just a "mix up".
There is probably a real terrorist out there with the same name, and this poor doctor just got stuck with the same name through some twist of fate.
I'm sure if you look hard enough there are lots of terrorists with names like Johnson, Smith, and Dare I say... Bush.

I'd say it's equal parts retribution and incompetence.

After reading some of those web pages, I would also add laziness as a reason.
Some of the federal agencies just grabbed a list of people they have monitored in the past and added them to the list without making any assessment of whether they should be on the TSA watch list.
The airlines do share some blame when they stop someone like Senator Ted Kennedy. That is just plain ignorance on their part.

simple question with no simple answer:
i worked for a year with a man who voted the bush ticket; i asked why did you vote for bush?
answer; i want a strong leader. forcing me to ask another question;
why did you vote for bush??
if you want to stop a tank, you don't "hit it with a hammer".
so how do you stop a tank?
simple; disable its track.
how do you stop a critic? stuff a sock in him? no
put him on a "no fly list". slow him down, give yourself enough time to pass some new law.
you young people; got your "brown shirt" yet?
every body else got your arm band? you know the one with an "N" on it? ok head for the showers.
h*ll we are already naked.

I don't think they airlines have the option of ignoring the no-fly list, no-one on the list boards unless TSA passes on them.
