I had thought that body shaving was something new in Britain - and while growing in popularity still had a long way to go. I was amazed therefore to read in today's Times a quote from Julius Caesar from his visit here 2,000 years ago "All the Britons dye their bodies with woad, which produces a blue colour, and shave the whole of their bodies except the head and the upper lip"

Maybe our ancestors knew something many our contemporaries don't !

That blue people and a cold climate scares italians? http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Modern society would do well to recall this knowledge. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hmm would Italians then be afraid of Smurfs also?

I have old nudist pictures from the 1920's that show women that are shaved. This is only a repeat of the past just like most other trends.

Actually, I believe ancient Egyptians shaved their bodies as well.

Maybe the reason was then the pubic lice and other lice. They were also the reason why comb was invented.

Yes, they did. Hawaiian cheifs did this as well.
Shaving/waxing is by no means new.

Ran across an article about this in Playboy recently. One of the main points was that shaving also removed odor. Which is true. That puts it right in the Hygene arena. Without elaborating, it cuts the urine smell. Frank http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Urine smell?.. you're joking right?

I assume you know that men don't pee on themselves, at least *I* don't... and woman don't pee on themselves either. Maybe you outta check out yourself as she pees, or ask her to squat in the yard for ya (well, we have acreage and privacy where that isn't an issue) to see how a woman is made. If someone is peeing on thier public hair while releveing themselves, I suggest you have others issues.

I personally hate those that like to shave taking to make those that don't shave feel unclean or somehow lessor.... shame on you!.. Please stop it.. please stop staying stupid things.

If you like something you don't need to come up with reasons to the contrary to make yourself feel better about it.. sheesh...

Not to make you feel dumb or anything, but I live on my own so I am the only one using my toilet, and somehow I still magically have to clean pee from around the sides, base and wall, and maybe you should take note of the divider walls next to public restroom urinals, they rust and paint peels, now I know I don’t miss my toilet and I don’t know of very many people who purposely miss the urinal aiming for the wall, so this must equate to something we would call SPLATTER, now little do you apparently know, when you pee, like it or not, some does splatter back on you now if you don’t you need to let the rest of us know your secret because by golly it must be a good one.

Oh and if you hate me now that is fine, because I know im a hypocrite, everyone is to a different degree, but when you come in here and start talking about how you hate people for voicing there opinion you are doing nothing more than what you just complained about, now I know I don’t post a lot, but I do read and I enjoy reading these forums, but please, if you have an opinion just state it and don’t try to belittle others for their opinion

Just my opinion

Have a great day, Travis

Uhm...I don't recall Chief actually writing that he hated anyone, but rather it's the idea of someone using personal hygiene to extol the superiority of pubic hairlessness that he finds hateful. And I'm not inclined to disagree with him.

It's an opinion, and he's as entitled to express his as anyone else is. Just like this opinion, for example: "I can't believe we're actually talking about excretory functions on this forum now."

I don't think women shaved their pubic area back then. The only exception was that of women who were photographed or painted. It was considered very immodest, if not actually pornographic to show a woman's pubic hair. It was considered far too sexy to be shown.

My 95 year old art teacher/friend, even to this day, believes that it is immodest to paint a picture of a woman showing pubic hair, so paints her "the old way" without pubic hair.

Are you sure the pics are not just air-brushed? (the hardcopy version of photoshopped, for you young wippersnappers)

Well, its now -3°C (~27°F) which is the low for tonight too, the first really cool day this season. My avatar was taken very early one morning last March, a week before the ice in my pool melted. I guess it's time to start paying for the very nice summer we just finished.
