In my opinion, a smoothie is someone who removes all hair from their body.

What has happened is that we've broadened the "nudist/naturist" definition to include those who only shave their pubic hair but leave other parts unshaved, when we make reference to smoothies.

I have professed to being a smoothie because my wife and I remove most or all of our pubic hair but are not "smoothies" in the sense that we have a completely hairless body.

So.....your poll can be a contradiction depending on on what your definition of a smoothie is.

Completely smooth
Almost completely smooth
Partially smooth
Only genital smooth

I am a genital smoothie! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

The Prof could be considered Almost completely smooth.....only has hair on her head, eyebrows and arms.

But really, it shouldn't matter whether you've got hair anywhere on you body or not. We are just nudists who happen to shave various parts of our body for us. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

No, not a smoothie. If there was a permanent hair removal system where it would not grow back, I would consider it. Depending on the cost of course.

There is a permanent solution, it's called lazer and had started it but got too expensive, $800 for a brazilian. Can't imagine what a whole body would run.

I'm a genital smoothie but I also get the legs waxed about twice a year, great for getting the dead skin off after that first spring burn (I'm bad, I didn't use sun screen).

Thanks for the info Garry. If they charge that much for just that area of the body I can only imagine what a full body would run. Not willing to sell my house to be a complete smoothie. I would probably be a little apprehensive of a laser being used in certain portions of my anatomy.

Maybe of equal importance is that when one is about to experience social nudity, she/he should not be surprised to see the shaven or unshaven.
Also, with the results similar, she/he will not feel out of place.

Additionally, on log runs I am not bothered by by pubic hair being cought in the pants of the shorts like it used to do. I feel it is much cleaner.

Curiousity got the best of me so I removed the hair on my upper body and pubic area. I then went to the local CO resort to get the experience of being exposed to the elements. After a while I came to realize that I looked and felt ridiculous, it's too much work, and my scandinavian skin is too sensitive to all that shaving and chemicals! So I'm going to stay with my usual routine of keeping my shaft and scrotum clean-shaven and the pubes above closely trimmed because I do like the look and feel of that.

I'm curious as to how long it takes to shave entire body (not counting removing facial hair) and how often do you have to do it? It only takes a couple of minutes to do shaft and sack and I am fair haired. Do you have a lot of dark body hair?

UPDATE!

As of this past Saturday my girlfriend is a smoothie. She has done it in the past but hasn't for about 8 months until Saturday. I'd like to affirm her and let everyone know that she looks GREAT! As she was shaving I said something along the lines of how I should give it a try and she responded that she preferred me with hair, so I did not follow her suit.

Saturday evening we went to a nude house party and she recieved a ton of comments about how great she looked. Some of our friends had seen her smooth before but as I said above, not for many months. There were 11 people at the party and 5 of them were smoothies, my girlfriend, 2 other ladies and 2 men. One duo of the smoothies was a husband and wife team. Anyways, just thought you all would enjoy hearing about this weekends activities. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif

Question, I have not been to a nude beach for about 2 years now. The wife and I have started the "smooth" look thing (actually I find it more comfortable) but I will be visiting Miami soon and have read about Haulover Beach. Is this trendy enough that it will generally go unnoticed or is it something that might attract stares? Just curious what percentage of nudists at nude beaches or resorts (male and female) are going with this trend.

i recently trimmed, but i don't think i'll ever shave completely. my leg hair goes all the way up to my pubic hair, so it would just look ridiculous.

i didn't trim for comfort or looks. i trimmed because my pubic hair just gets in the way sometimes. those of you who are/were very hairy probably understand what i'm talking about. it gets caught in the zipper, it traps feces no matter how well you wipe, it traps bodily fluids after sex, you get the idea. i no longer have those problems, even though i'm not a smoothie.

i was looking through a photographer's book of "people of color" nudes yesterday in barnes & noble, and realized that i do NOT like the smooth look in black and white. in real life or in color i think it's attractive on women, but i've never seen a man who was a smoothie.

I've been for about three weeks now and my girlfriend is going on about 3-4 months. I have to shave about everyday, but it's worth it. The Norelco Body Groom is actually really good. it may take longer than shaving with a razor, but i still have not gotten any shaving rash. It's good for all parts of the genital region, you just have to pull it taught enough for it to work.

As I believe the term "smoothie" refers to being completely without body hair,I had to vote male and not a smoothie. I shave my balls and around the shaft of my penis, but do grow the pubic hair above my penis (although I keep it trimmed reasonably short). This just takes a few minutes a day to maintain, and I do it simply because I enjoy both the look and the feel.

As nudists, there seems to be a lot of discussion about the pros and cons of shaving. I can only assume those males who are so opposed to shaving other areas of the body on the grounds of being "natural" all have full facial beards and moustaches. But as a nudist, I equate shaving other areas of the body to shaving the face. Some of us are clean shaven, some have goatees, some have moustaches, and some have full beards and moustaches. Just a matter of preference.

Fuzzy Nuts mentioned he was going to let the hair above his penis grow in. I have seen lots of other men with this "half-and-half" shave I prefer at Wreck Beach, so I think it must be reasonably common.

I voted male smoothie. I remove hair everywhere from the neck down, that is everywhere I can reach safely with a razor. Fortunately, I come from a family that was not very hairy and hair does not grow on my back. Do have a few small hairs where I cannot see but using a razor there is not worth the risk. Not much hair on legs either so once every 6 weeks handles that. The pubic area is shaved about twice a week.

"I have been dating Hennie for a few months. Although I have been in relationships where I thought I was in love, this relationship is special. I don't believe in rushing into intimacy, but we agree it is time to take our relationship to a new level.

The problem is that she doesn't want me to be naked in bed. Hennie does not like the feel of body hair and insists that if we are to be naked together I must shave or wax all of it.

Cuddling nude is extremely important to me. It makes no sense to be in the same bed and not hold each other. It is so important to be with her that I will try to get rid of my hair, but I can't help but wonder whether this is a red flag. Could she be a lesbian? Could she be doing this to put me off or test me in antother fashion? Something about this doesn't feel right, and I am not sure if I should comply or not. - Hairy"

Like I said before I am a male smoothie from the neck down. It enhances the feeling of freedom from clothing. Even though I shave I would prefer to be waxed professionally; draw back is that I am too shy to make the necessary inquiries of estheticians to find out which one(s) would be willing to wax me from the neck to the toes. Including a brazilan wax.

nudebushwalker

Rather than shave my body, I get it waxed every 12 - 13 weeks (started off at 6 week intervals several years ago, but gradually extended intervals (the regrowth does actually slow down and thin out, over time (a v e r y long time..), despite what some people claim)). A little short term pain, but lasts longer and smoother...

At the present time I am not a smoothie, and have not been smooth for about six months. I have been a smoothie and really enjoy the look and feel of being smooth. My girlfriend shaves about once a month and looks great smooth. I will start shaving again at some point in the near future. The first shave after letting the hair grow is always difficult but it gets easier with each shave

Not a smoothie here. (But would love to be) I havnt had pubic hair for many years now and would never grow it back. The problem I have being a complete smoothie is due to the fact that I am a very hairy person. The amout of time I would need to shave it all would just be foolish let alone trying to do the places that I can't reach.Maby some day I will be able to afford to go have it all waxed.I have done the waxing on the pubic area and found it to be the only way to do it, but the cost facter is to high to do waxing all the time,so I shave on a daily basis and every now and then go in and get it waxed.

Okay everyone...as you can tell by my log-in I am a smoothie and have been for quite awhile. Nothing else like it. I wouldn't go back because this way is so much more comfortable and hygenic. It's no trouble if one maintains this a couple times a week and I don't think you have to remove All of your body hair to be labeled as one. Try it once and you won't go back. Enjoy!!

Question: I know that if you shave your face with a blade verses an electric razor the skin develops less sensitivity and toughens up a bit.

Has anyone noticed the same for other areas of the body?

Yes Rich this was the case for me.
The first couple of weeks your skin is a little more sensitive and then you will just adapt to the shaving just like on your face. After a while you will no longer have a rash or itching at all.
I shave with baby powder and no water at all because, the water causes the skin to swell and the hair is more lkiely to become ingrown or itch. You can get a much smoother and better shave in your nether regions this way.

too much work to keep shaving. If god had wanted you to be smooth, he would have not made hair grow all over. It seems as you get older, certain parts of the body get harry-er and others less so. I prefer to let nature take it's course and let the hair grow. If it was not for societal norms, i would probably let my facial hair and the hair on my head grow as well, but folks in my line of work are generally clean cut. I don't like to see everyone shaved, but it is their body to do as they wish. I prefer my natural fur.

Greetings ya'll, new guy here, I've enjoyed the comments posted here and I would agree that it's a personal choice. I was smooth then I was not and yet may be again. It's kinda cold around here and even the opportunity to be nude is far from Texarkana. Regretably these forums are as close as I can get to socially nude without getting arrested. Former member AANR. When in Florida there were no nude beaches in the area and the beach I liked was up at Venice. It wasn't a nude beach so I settled for wearing the smallest swimsuit I could find to match the legal requirements. Not sure I could do that at a local lake here. Shaving was a neccesity which gave at least a sensory feel of being nude. I love the beach, the sound of the waves and the smell of the sea.

Happy Holidays to all

I had been shaving on occasion up until about 2 years ago, when I decided to stay that way. Now I remove all hair except my eyebrows, eyelashes and the hair on the top of my head.

Shaving was working OK, but I wanted to try something besides just shaving with a Gillette Fusion 5 blade razor. I tried waxing a couple of times and did not like this at all. Way too much pain and it is messy. A few weeks ago I ordered an Epilady epilator, online from Target, and got it in two days from when I ordered it.

I was already shaved, but thought I would try it out. Being shaved turned out to be a good thing as that meant it wasn't able to find as many hairs to pull out. That meant that there wasn't much pain to deal with. I used it twice a day for the first two weeks and now there isn't any real need to shave every day. There is almost no stubble at this point and each time I use it, there will be less to deal with until I reach whatever maximum benefit it has to offer. Well worth the money.

I use a chemical hair remover and it works pretty well. The down side is that it's smelly (I use it in my outdoor shower-problem sloved) and you have to be careful to keep it away from your genital (It burns like the devil). I bought an epilator a few years ago but I wasn't consistent using it. From your post it sounds like the results are better (no hair growth) if you stick with it. Maybe I'll give it another try.
I usually just trim my pubes but remove hair from underarms, legs, chest, penis and scrotum. I sweat a lot and having less body hair makes me feel cleaner.
This time my pubes are smooth too. It's a new look and I'm still getting used to it.
If I decide I don't like it, it's not permanent.

Shave first. You wouldn't want an epilator getting hold of a large chunk of hair all at one time. That would not be my idea of a fun thing. Also, do not try to use an epilator on your genitals, unless you don't need them any more. This is from personal experience. Momentary contact was enough to convince me. Ouch!

If you have never shaved, or it has been a long time. You might want to shave every few days for about a month before trying anything more harsh such as waxing or using an epilator. Give your skin time to adjust and you will have better results.

There was originally a poll attached to this thread.
It appears it did not get carried over during the recent forum system conversion.
But,by my recollection, it was running about 50/50 on shaved versus unshaved.
This 50/50 split carried thru to both males and females.
This is great.
That's means that no one going to a nude beach will feel out of place.

Another smoothie here.

I was a smoothie off and on through my early and mid-20s. In my late 20s, I started cycling frequently and the constant tugging of hairs on long rides convinced me that I should stay smooth during the warmer months. I want to be a smoothie and have tried it on 2 occassions, most recently New Years of this year. The problem is the actual shaving: it's a lot of work and it's hard work, as I can't see the area that I'm working on (my breasts get in the way.... ) So I'm not sure it's going to happen again unless/ until I have a significant other to help out, a bath tub (I only have a shower stall now, rather than a bathtub with shower), or some kind of inspiration. Still, I do want to be a smoothie as I like the feel of it and I think I like the look of it now.

While I too think it would be fun to do the smoothification process with a s/o....until you meet somebody you might consider going to a salon. I've shaved a few times over the years, too much work to maintain. It's all I can do to keep my face shaven. I believe the last time was as part of my Halloween costume - I shaved nearly my whole body including my head, wore a top hat, carried a broom, painted myself white, my eyes black, and my nose and penis orange. I was an anatomically correct snowman. The trouble was the bald white head and black eyes made me look scary like the voodoo witch doctor from Jame Bond many years ago, not fun like Frosty.

Yes, that is exactly the kind of salon that I mean. Except instead of them shaving your (to borrow a word from Homer Simpson) "goodies" they will wax them. Others on here will tell how waxing makes much sense since the results last for such a long time.

Darn right I'm a smoothie, from the neck down. Full beard from neck up. Shaving time is probably the same as you clean shaven guys. And no visible stubble if you skip a day! My wife has been smooth a lot longer than me. It's just a matter of practice and going slow when you get close to the good parts. Razor bumps go away after a couple of months and then it's just like parts that you've been shaving for years. Visit shaving section of your store for 'stuff' to put on razor 'red bumps' and you'll be fine. Try it. It's not irreversible you know.

Tomorrow is shave day, can't wait to a smooth body.

My Gillette Fusion 5 blade razor stays in the shower and I shave every time that I take a shower. If I feel any stubble, it is gone. I don't wait for it to grow out any. I also use an Epilady epilator if I decide to wait long enough for the hair on my legs to grow out slightly. It pulls the hair out and then there isn't much to shave for weeks.

I have to go to the doctor a lot and get frequent blood tests and was getting real tired of getting the hair ripped off various parts of my body. Doesn't happen now that I also shave my arms. Getting the hair ripped off my arms was hurting more than the stick from the blood tests.

I go in for heart surgery and heart catheterization in a few weeks and there won't be much need for any shaving prior to this being done.

Tried a do-it-yourself kit a couple of times and decided that shaving every day in order to stay totally smooth was a much better option. No wax for me.

I would like to get the permanent hair removal. Otherwise, it is hard to get a fully good shave. I usually just trim it down to about a half inch.

Waxing is great (at least for women) - the more often you do it, the easier it gets. It just gets real expensive

Take some pain killers beforehand, and make sure your waxer uses numbing cream.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But now that I live in the warmer climes I think it's a habit I'm gonna keep. I've heard waxing is super smooth and lasts longer. Maybe a home kit some time...

I have tried both the totally smooth look and the close trim look. of the 2 I prefer the close trim. I do shave the hair off my shaft, but the rest I trim with electric clippers. I am very hairy and my hair grows very, very quickly so when I tried the smooth thing it was very itchy and it botherd me a lot. I have found that by triming close, you can achieve the clean look you desire without all the bother of shaving daily and scratching constantly.

I am not a smoothie. I am a person.

BUT, if I were to be a smoothie, I'd be one that had lots of strawberries, bananas, probably blueberries (be cause I LOVE blueberries), perhaps some pineapple juice, and maybe even exotic kiwis.

What kind of smoothie would you be??

His reply, "Welllll......I always close my eyes and try to imagine that she's wearing an Alpaca sweater." lol

I would not even think of removing my body hair. For me it is an early warning system, I can usually feel the presents of biting insects, before they can attack my skin.

Besides it would be too great of an effort, to remove all of my body hair.

I'll stay natural as God made me.

I must confess that I find body hair gross; for me there is nothing more attractive than a completely smooth body, especially if it is a male body. I am male, I am not gay, but, sorry, that is my opinion.

I agree, I find body hair gross. I'm straight and I feel a fit nude human form, devoid of all body hair is perfect art, and very pleasing to view, male, female, or better, poseing together.

My body hair is part of me and I have no interest in getting rid of it. First, it would be too much work and I cannot safely reach my back with a razor. Also I feel that it helps to dissipate perspiration in hot weather or during exercise, and to avoid chafe, while in cold weather providing a degree of warming insulation under clothing.

I started by just trimming a bit but had a ex-girlfriend that got me onto shaving my pubic area clean. Now I shave everywhere with the exception of my pecs, my wife and I both like the shaved look but she still likes to the look of my chest hair, I don't have much but she want's me to keep it. So other than that we're both smoothies :)

I don't shave, but I am a partial smoothie. I like the feeling of not having hair on my scrotum. I have shaved before, but I didn't like the stubble that grew in and I always got nervous with the razor. Instead, I use Nair, but am very careful with it. If you try it, make sure you don't leave it on too long (it'll hurt). I actually haven't used it in a while. Once I removed most of the hair, I finished the rest with some tweezers and maintain it every day or two, also with the tweezers. It's not any trouble at all and it doesn't hurt. Does anybody else do anything like this?

I don't mind the smooth look on others, but as for me I don't like the way I look without hair. I tried shaving my chest once and absolutely couldn't wait for it to grow back! Since I am also quite hairy I had problems with a few ingrown hairs too, ouch! I do however trim my pubic area and sometimes shave my sac and shaft smooth, but I don't think that qualifies me as any sort of smoothie, more like a "manscaper" :D

I am naturally smooth....got just a few hairs on my chest & even then they are just not prominent.

So when I started to the nude beaches 8 or so years ago, I decided to keep a mostly smooth pelvic region....by that I mean I am totally smooth except for a small 1 inch square patch on my pubic bone just above the shaft. Don't really like the totally clean version of me, so that's why I keep this style !

Yes, that is exactly the kind of salon that I mean. Except instead of them shaving your (to borrow a word from Homer Simpson) "goodies" they will wax them. Others on here will tell how waxing makes much sense since the results last for such a long time.
In every city here there are salons (spa), where they do waxing (brazilians, bikini), some do men too, but I never tried it yet, want to try it at least ones Irene goes every summer.
I don’t know about the states, but I guess they are there too.

That is my stance too......it's the one hair style I do tend to change more than that on my head!
;)
Is that not what it is…
I see it too like my hair on my head, depends on my mood how it exactly will be. We naturist/nudist/clothes free, show more of out body than only the hair on our head. In the winter we take less care about the hair below, but in season when more people see it we take more care of it, trim, shave, waxing, whatever…

You are right, in every city, there are spas and establishments that offer waxing BUT if you are a man, it may be difficult to find one that offers the same service to men.

I am sure it isn't difficult to find a salon that offers the usual male waxing: back and chest.

The question is, will a man be able to find a salon that offers brazilian wax to men. If you do not live a in a major metropolitan city, it may be hard.

Before moving to Washington DC a year ago, I lived in NYC and there were salons that offered waxing for men and women. The same waxes they offered to women, there was a male version of it. It wasn't unusual to go to ANY salon and just ask for a brazilian wax.

Living in DC, it is quite opposite. One would have to search hard to find a place that offers that sort of waxing to men. I have found this to be same situation when I went back home to Boston. The only other city where I found no problem finding a spa that does male brazilian was San Francisco and LA.

Croydon, I don’t live in the States, but here in New Zealand as far as I know there is only one chain of spa’s who offer it for as well women as men. And yes there are for more spas’ who offer it only for women.
Normally I shave my balls and penis and trim around it, so I would call me a smoothy. But out of interest I want to try a Brazilian waxing in this spa, just to see if I like it and who know I get hooked.

I don't wish to offend anyone, but I will say that I am unshaven and it would not look good due to amount of hair on the rest of my body. Shaving is a personal choice, but I agree with the above analogy.
