I'm very committed but very cautious because where I live in the northern Rockies being a nudist can be life threatening if you "come out." So I'm not willing to push it. What I do is "escape" to friendlier climes and locales and then enjoy the sun and fresh air. At nudist resorts I feel I can be my true self /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Other than doing my "nude thing", and telling a few people about it and inviting them to try it, I haven't done much to advance nudism. I don't and won't "push the envelope" by going nude in places where it isn't accepted since I have no desire to be arrested and have my name put in the newspaper for all to see that I've been arrested for "indecent ecposure". /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We haven't done anything specail to promote nudism. It is no secret at work that we attend nude resorts and wear nothing most of the time at home (weather permitting). We only wore swimming suits once last year(during a 4th of July party) yuck. I had forgotten how uncomfortable wet clothes are.. anyway.
I feel that if we just continue to educate the uninformed in a "matter of factly" attitude, maybe some minds will open up.
Thanks

I have only talked with a very few people about nudism, as it seems to me a very personal issue. While I am aware many nudist belive open public nudity should legal I am not so sure. While I am nude at home and in secluded areas in the woods biking-hiking and boating, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico I do not intend to be seen by others than in my party. My wife and I have toured some nudist resorts/clubs but have never realy felt compeled to practice social nudity. Are you sure that textiles should have to be exposed to nudist, in the practice of thier nudism. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

One way to look at it is to use your face as an analogy. Imagine it has a disfigurement which some people may find uncomfortable to look at.
If you believe that only selected people should see your face then you acknowledge that there is an element of shame involved in exposing your face to the wider public.
If you believe other people might be offended by your face then again you accept that the exposure of your face may be shameful.
If you believe that there is nothing inherently shameful about exposing your face then it should not matter who sees it whether or not they are 'offended' for they are the ones with the problem, not you.
If you believe that there is nothing inherently shameful about exposing your face but nevertheless keep it covered then your concern is really about protecting yourself from the imagined reactions of others.
I'm not sure there's a right or wrong belief, only opinion, but I do know that there are some cultures where it is considered shameful for women to expose their faces in public and where their faces are viewed only by selected people.

I have opened up to a few of my friends. When talking about my last vacation to florida some of them jokingly ask if I went to a nude beach. They get a suprised look on their faces when I say "Of course I did."
They usually follow up with , "did you go nude?". To which I reply, "Of coures I did".
After a brief moment of embarrassment they comment on how they could never do it. Often pointing out flaws in their bodies or feelings of Insecurity.
I then explain as much about nude beaches and the concept of nudity as they care to hear.
You can usually tell in the first minute of a conversation if the other person is actually interested in nudity or just thinks it's a dirty joke.
Swaying public opinion isn't that hard if your careful on who's opinion your trying to sway.

I've been pretty much outspoken when it comes to nudism. I live almost 24/7 in the lifestyle and I've been on the Naturist Action Committee which is the political arm of the Naturist Society. I've taken numerous people on first time trips to nudist resorts and beaches and openly wear bumper stickers on my car.
I've been to half a dozen county commissioners meetings in support of nudism, getting up to speak out against the fundamentalist christians to try and stop rediculous anti-nudity laws from being passed. Unfortunately most of the time they did pass but at least I can say I did everything I could and I feel comfortable with what I did in my heart.
Right now my project is a nudist website similar to this one but just a few weeks old. Besides being a central place for people to get and exchange information I am hoping to teach people to actively fight bad law by writing letters to those who try and get rid of us and to also write letters when good examples of nudity are portrayed in various venues such as television.
If I had the opportunity and money I would purposely get myself arrested so that I could get some of these silly laws overturned. I believe that women should have the right to go top free everywhere and I hope that one day total nudity will be looked upon as nothing out of the ordinary anywhere in public.

Good Luck cyndiann... i think we all hope for the same things to happen in our lifetimes.
Too bad we cant start our own nudist country... that would be a great place.

You can get bumper stickers from the AANR and TNS websites I believe. Also many nudist clubs have their own. Right now Tampa Area Naturists are giving out bumper stickers that come with a mail in postcard that goes to the Pinellas County Commissioners to let them know you support having a nude beach in Ft DeSoto Park. The bumper sticker is a mock up of what a nudist beach parking pass would look like. You can get one free at http://www.tanfl.com/

I believe along the lines of buttnaked. Although, I can be a bit outspoken here in the forums, for me, as well, nakedness is a personal way of existing. Not everyone has to know and this is ok. I don't force my favorite color on everyone, nor do most of the people know that I surf if I prefer short or long boarding. If asked I would tell them and if asked if I believe the unclothed human is a natural way to be I would answer, absolutely. I am not sure that nudism should be forced on the general public. I believe woman should have the right to be top free as men, and more beaches and public parks should have nude areas, but I don't feel it should be allowed just any where.

I am the type that enjoys nudity so much I would love to go where ever i wanted naked.
But my wife feels very strongly against any one, out side of our locale club to know anything about what she considers our private lives. So I have to respect her feelings, or she says she would just stop going. And thats the last thing I want.
We do how ever particapate in the spring Cape Cod beach clean up which I feel does alot to pormote nudistism. Because they put up all kinds of signs lett /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ing people know what is going on.

I would say it's been very important to me. I have had a negative body image since I was a kid due to a disability. Becoming nudist has helped my self esteem issues tremendously. I love the way it has opened a new life for me. I am not an activist per se, but I do support the AANR as a member and for all they do as well as other nudist/naturist organizations. I love the freedom and exhileration I feel when I am at a nudist venue. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The kind of people who say that being a nudist is disgusting, probably don't have very many friends, if any at all!!! someone who would have the nerve to say something like that is ashamed of their own body; that, and not nudism, is wrong!but me, i don't give a hoot what people say about this awesome lifestyle because I know that they are ashamed of themselves!

I don't think nudity is all that important. It's more of a comfort issue. I like to lounge around, nude of course, simply due to the fact, I am more comfortable. Don't have to worry about getting all tangled up in clothing, especially while sleeping. Letting it all hang out is the only way to go.

nudeM,
I think nudity is more important than any of us realize.
Sure, you just do what comes natural and comfortable, but I think there are a lot of benefits to it that you just don't think about on a day to day basis, especially if you are trying to raise kids to have a normal attitude about their bodies and about sex.
I am not constantly thinking about the health benefits of nudity, but I am sure that I am getting slightly better blood circulation, and that fresh air and moderate sunlight are helping my skin fight off rashes and bacteria. If you don't believe me, just sniff the foot of someone who has been barefoot all day vs. the foot that has just come out of being in a shoe all day. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I also believe that the human body is a beautiful sight and that my soul is better for having seen people in their natural state. That is just a slight benefit, but if it makes for a happier life, being nude and seeing others nude is worth it.
When I go nude in a resort or in the privacy of my home, I am not dwelling on all this stuff, but the benefit is there whether we see it or not!
