View Full Version : It's sold! I'm going!
Great news! Well, for me anyway. My house has been sold--again. We're closing next Thursday--I hope. It's hard to be positive when you've had someone back out of the deal at the last moment after borrowing the money to buy the house. However, the realtor seems sure that this one is real, but then he was sure before.
Well, anyway, if all goes well I will be out of here and living at Turtle Lake Resort within the next two weeks. I know, I've said this before, but this time I believe it's real. There's a trailer at the resort that I will be buying, although I will be a bit cramped. Living there I won't have to put shorts on to answer the door or to go outside for any reason unless I leave the resort.

Congratulations! We're glad for you.
Having a sale fall out of escrow is common enough, and of course disappointing when it does. However, it's less likely to happen a second time. We'll hold positive thoughts for you.
Hey, that's super!
I'm glad for you, it's what you've been wanting.
As for the other sale, if they backed out even after getting financing you can take them to court and get some compensation for having to resell it. I don't know all the details but if they were able to buy and didn't they could actually have been forced to buy or at least to forfeit the deposit and then some. I'd go talk with a lawyer about that if I were you. The compensation could be substantial.
Cyndiann,
I appreciate the advice, but I'm not going to go to the trouble of hiring a lawyer. He paid a $500 deposit which he lost to me.
I just don't think taking him to court would be the Christian thing to do.

Jon Marc,
All the best mate and I hope you are doing what you really want to do. The fact that you still look about 45 and, well, HOW can you afford to retire at your age??? I will never know but you did it/are doing it so more power to you.
IF ONLY. Another 30 years of hard slog for me my friend !!
Retirement? I may as well dream about England winning the (soccer) world cup!!

But it's the bluegills that you have to worry about when swimming in the lake. They especially love to nibble on moles. They don't bother you if you keep moving, its when you float quietly that they go for a taste. They don't really hurt so much as startle you when you get nipped.
Fortunately TLR has two pools, so the nervous don't have to swim with the fishies.

Congrats on the sale!!! Great feeling isn't it?
But one thing puzzles me. I was born and raised in MI and anytime before April/May you don't answer the door nude unless your house is burning down. It gets way too "CCOOLLDDD" there. And I have a summer trailer at a c/o camp and trust me, you're going to have the heat as "high" as it'll go if you're moving there this soon.
Best of luck and congrats again! I think we all envy you.

I want say Aman to that, Look like a prayer been answer for you but keep on praying until you settle in there, then give thank for the blessing. God Bless
Oh, I will continue to be nude inside the trailer unless I'm unable to get it warm enough in there. I lived in a mobile home once, and it was plenty warm enough. I keep my house warm enough so I can be nude.I may answer the door nude there, but I won't be going outside that way too often--if ever. Our high temps are in the teens and low twenty's farenheit, and our lows are getting down to ZERO and below! /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I've gotten rid of most of my clothes and a lot of other stuff that I can live without--I tend to be a packrat. I didn't notice if there was a shed or not, but if not then I will buy one for storage. I would have preferred a warmer climate, but the more I thought of it the more I realized I didn't want to leave my grandkids--at least until they turn into teenagers. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I experience that strange phenomena with my daughters.
I hope to buy a new computer. It's time to retire this one. It's never worked right, and now I keep getting an error message and everything on the screen disappears--a lot. I will make room for a computer.
The fish do like to nibble. One guy told me that he was floating on one of those net things, and a fish bit his penis--hard! The fish liked it so much that he came back for seconds! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Trailscout, a re-visit to Georgia would be nice. I will see what I can do. Serendipity is the friendliest place I've been to. Maybe I'll give myself a birthday present in April and come down. Thanks for the compliment, Max, but I'll be 58 April 8, and I retired from the government. We can retire from a government job as early age 55. I had 35 years with the government including my Air Force time.
I may buy a couple of electric heaters to help on the heat if I need them, but I will finally be realizing my dream of living in a nudist resort. By the way this is the THIRD buyer. The first backed out at the last minute, and the second bit off more than he could chew by trying for a very LARGE loan on multiple houses and couldn't get the loan.
Thanks for all the well-wishes. I feel pretty confident about this one--probably because the realtor is. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Just a short note to let you know, if you don't already, that Dell has an ad on TV for a computer for $399.00 after $100.00 mail-in rebate. Jon-Marc,
<center>High Speed Internet Dish Network</center>
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=high+speed+internet+Dish+Network+Michigan&btnG=Google+Search
The Compaq computer I am looking at is for $448. I can get 10% off that because I work there. I have Internet service through my phone company. If they don't have the same phone company at the resort which is in another county and a different town, although it's only a little over 20 miles from here, I will have to change Internet providers. I also have my doubts that I will be able to keep my TV Satellite Dish. Of course, they do have a big screen TV in the clubhouse that I can watch if no one else is watching something I don't want to see. TV is mostly boring to me anyway. I've got over 100 channels and often can't find anything worth watching.
I don't know if the Earthlink high speed dial-up is much better than the regular dial-up, but I could always try that if I can't get anything else, if it's available there. If I have to go back to regular slow-speed dial-up, I will do it--assuming I can even have a telephone there! If not, I'll get a cell phone. There's a Panasonic Trac Phone at Walmart where I work. You don't have a monthly bill; you just pay for what time you use. It might be a little more expensive that way, but I rarely use the phone anyway. It has free caller ID and other free features included. I hope I don't have to sacrifice having the Internet. I was too interested in getting in there and didn't think to ask about anything. I'm willing to suffer a few inconveniences to realize my dream of living in a nudist resort, though.
I may not be able to be nude outdoors most of the year, but I can enjoy the hot tub and pool every day. I can soak in the hot tub before and after work to keep my old bones feeling better.

We could communicate the old-fashioned way: U.S. Mail. (No offense to the letter carriers amongst us)
I reckon a general delivery letter to: Jon-Marc c/o Turtle Lake Nudist Resort, Michigan would probably get to you just like that.
Cell phone companies usually charge an extra fee to allow you to use the Internet. This is on top of the Internet service provider's monthly fee.
Jon-Marc, I would whine for a few days if I didn't have the Internet, but I have only had it the last seven years of my life. I got by without it all these years and did just fine.
Do you still remember how to stuff an envelope and lick a stamp? Maybe we should go back to the way things used to be.

I don't know which sattelite system you have but both Dish Network and Direct TV have dish moving programs wherein you take your receiver to your new location and they will install a new dish for you. You may have to commit to a one year contract but it will solve your sattelite TV problems.
If you have access to Costco they have a telephone calling card for $19.95 for 670 min. to use with your regular home phone. That's 2.99 cents a min. Good Deal!

I have stayed at Turtle Lake Resort for about 11 days at the time of the AANR/MSA Conventions, in my tent, about three years ago, but on some later visits I stayed in Looey's Lodge near the entrance to the resort. I could almost swear that in the back sleeping rooms were unused phone jacks on the wall up about two feet from the floor. However, in the front rooms I did not see phone jacks. I assumed that these phone jacks were for computers.
I assume that the phones in TLR office are land based and that the pay phone in the clubhouse is land based. Let's hope that they ran phone lines to the mobile home/trailer section.
I have also used my cell phone there and called a long distance number and it worked well.
The huge TV in the clubhouse seems to be on a satellite system, so you could also probable sign up with that company for high speed internet, if you preferred. They might have the smaller disks that would not be as visually intrusive as the large ones.

Jon-Marc,
<center>Cost of Computers</center>
You indicate that you can get a computer for around $400. Here is another suggestion which you or anyone can consider; that is, you can buy a WEBTV (MSNTV) for $75. after the $25. rebate. Circuit City is one of the places that sell them. This includes a keyboard, wires and a remote control.
The payment to MSN per month for the monthly service would be $21.99 and you would not pay an extra monthly charge to the telephone company or to any other provider, but you would first have to be assured that MSN has contracted with a <u>local</u> provider so that you would not have to pay a long distance fee. Also, WEBTV (MSNTV) does not hook up to any high speed accomodation.
You would view it all on your larger TV screen, as you sit back on your couch and relax. You would not have the worry of a computer breaking down, as Microsoft takes care of all the functioning at their center somewhere. WEBTV (MSNTV) is easy to use and worry free. It provides the internet, e-mail and you can make web pages free of extra charge. The new model is very small, (looks like a pair of binoculars) and you could take it where ever you travel and easily hook it up.
I have two of them for two seperate rooms and really appreciate them over the years.
Trailscout,
It took a long time for me to join the 20th century and buy a computer, and that was late in 1999. It's one of those things that we lived without for a long time and wonder how we did after we get one, even though they get rather frustrating at times.
Steve,
Actually, it won't be a house but a trailer. However, we have 160 acres to enjoy.
Big Mac,
I have Dish Network. The only thing I don't like about Satellite is that you can't watch one channel while recording a different one or record multiple channels while your gone, which you can do with cable.
David,
Can you hook up a printer and flatbed scanner to the WEBTV? If I can get a phone line in my trailer, which is what they call a "park model" and is pretty much permanently fixed, I can use the Internet I have. It uses the phone line to connect, but it doesn't tie up the line and enables me to use the phone while I'm online.
My main concern is to get moved in there. Then I will concern myself with everything else. I will have to get a post office box in Union City where the resort is. Actually, no one is supposed to live in the resort more than 180 days per year, but I was told that no one there is going to count the days. There are people who live there year round. I'm assuming that no one will read this that we need to worry about reporting that fact.

I forgot about that recent change, or else I would have not mentioned the WEBTV. A regular computer would be better, under these unfortunate circumstances. Sorry.
Here's the latest on my move. My house is definitely sold. I deposited a check today for for share that I got after everybody else got theirs.
I will start moving into Turtle Lake Resort this weekend! I'm buying a nide little trailer or mobile home there for $10,500. It's only 13'x30', but it will be enough for me. There's been a lot of work done on the inside, and there's a surprising amount of cupboards and storage area inside. The bathroom is actually bigger than the one in the house I just sold.
Although I had to open a post office box for my mail since there's no mail delivery at the resort, I can have a phone line installedbut with a different company. The problem is that I will have to cancel my DSL Internet and get something else--probably a deficient dial-up.
Oh well, it's the price I pay for living in a nudist resort that isn't intended for year round living. But just think--I will have an indoor heated pool and a hot tub that I can use all year round! Also, I will be driving over 16 miles one way to work instead of 6, but it's worth it.
Congratulations Jon-Marc....Way to go. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

hw,
I'm not sure how I'm going to work the Internet thing. I won't be able to use my DSL Internet there at all because it's with my phone company that I won't have there, so I won't have any Internet. I don't know how to find and sign up for an Internet service when I haven't got one to look for them. I can't change Internet services now because I don't know what phone number I will have. I can't get the phone line run to my trailer until I'm there, and they don't want to wade through all the snow (brrrr) to get to my trailer. I will more than likely have to go back to some slow, undependable dial-up, and I haven't found one that's worth using. It looks as though I will be offline for a while after this Saturday. I hope I don't suffer from withdrawals. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Speed up/down Satellite would work fine their without any wires or phone lines required. Think it a little more than DSL, but maybe you could get one of thoes for internet and basic TV service. What zip code and area and prefix is it do you know.?
What a pain, going from DSL/Cable wideband to Dial up. Depending how far from the CO Switch up to 2.2 miles you would expect less than 48k connection.
Gary,
The zip code for that area is 49094. The phone number for the resort is 517/741-7004. I assume I will have a number similar to that--at least the same area code and the 741, unless theirs is a business number, and mine would be a residential number. Also, I can ask what Internet service they have in the office and find out if I can get that. In Battle Creek I have SBC phone company. I have no idea what SBC stands for. At the resort I will have to use one called Verizon. They will only put a line up to the front of the resort property. Then we will have to run a line to the trailer. What a pain, but I will be living in a nudist resort as I want!

Thanks, Gary, for the info. I'll check it out. The trailer is furnished, and I will be leaving most of my furniture with the house and only take a few small pieces of furniture. I will donate my skiing exerciser to the resort since I won't have any place to put it. I wish I had somewhere to put my deep freeze so I could take it. I called and will have a phone line put in next Monday at the trailer. I can also get DSL Internet with that phone company. So all is well!

I finally got hold of the resort owner. He was very busy over the weekend and didn't have time to call me back.
Although he hasn't heard from the people where he did the background check on me, he said I can go ahead and move in after I assured him that there won't be anything negative found about me. I've never been arrested or charged with anything.
He's busy this morning, and I'm supposed to call him again this afternoon about getting moved in. The only key is to the back door. I'll have to have a new lock put in the front door. This could be my last post until I get DSL Internet with my new phone company, Verizon.
