I have community friends who chastise me for where what I call topless sandals. But I have extremely sensitive feet. I think it's b.s. Take a look at what I'm wearing:

Kinda cool! Perfect for a nudist resort. Do they really stick on? Even when your feet sweat?

I've had them since last summer. Mostly they work great. If your feet sweat you gotta peel them off for a minute to dry.

Appears that some in your community have way too much time and not enough to fill it with if they must chastise any one for the choice of footwear another.

If you had taken to binding your feet and breaking them to reform them as was the ancient (and still is in remote areas) custom for 'high born' women in China then I could see some reason you could and should be chastised, outside of that, "Taint nuntheabizness" what your choice in footwear is.

What is the problem that these people have with them?

These might be cool for me, since "flip flops" usually rub me raw between my toes.

Kodiak6

Yeah, I dig them. I wore them out to Rooster Rock in August and I spent the next two hours having to explain where I got them. I actually think they're kind of fun.

But whatever. Friends exist to harrass you, I guess. (Kidding).

They look prety useful. I might buy a pair except that my feet are prety tough from all the years that they have been naked.

Kodiak6,

I personaly don't see what the problem is with your wearing these sandals. I agree, some people just have way too much time on their hands.

After I viewed the website, I purchased a pair for myself. I'm going on a cruise next month and I think they will be a hoot on the ship. I can also see my using them at the nudist resort I occasionally go to. Thanks for the head's up.

They look real cool. I agree with TV-Pilot. I will get me a pair. By the way, can you wear them while taking a shower?

I note they are called "down-unders", yet they are not worn here Down Under. First time I had ever heard of them.

No, they don't work in the shower. If you get them wet you need to dry them off to restore the "stick." Same thing if you get them dirty. Need to cleanse them with soap and water and then dry. It's actually a quick process, though. Mine are still just as functional as the first day I wore them last summer (although I haven't had a chance to use them since the winter rain started up here in Oregon).

I'll tell you the first time you wear them they feel weird but there strangely addictive. I wonder if there's something in the adhesive. Like the Colonel Sanders secret spices or something. Anyway, that's about all I can add. Hope it helps. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/beam.gif

Yeahhhhh, those are actually really bad for your back/posture/feet. This is so, because there is obviously no arch support whatsoever. Wear these at your own risk.

Kodiak6
01-07-2006, 07:55 PM
Yeah, no arch.

Topless Sandals - water based adhesive is guaranteed at least a year.

Thanks for the heads up K6. I had a pair two summers ago until my beloved mutt Miles decided they tasted great. I dug them the most.

Re, your friends, have they tried them?????

Right.

Care to explain how you get arch support when barefoot?

Unless you have an extreme arch in your foot, or a pronated gait, arch supports are unnecessary - and often not desireable - under normal conditions. People with painful overextended arches or foot pronation when they walk need foot orthotics, which is well beyond the scope of "flip flops" or sandals.

Depends on use. But every couple of days you'll notice they're not working as well. So scrub them for 30 seconds with soap and water and dry with a towel -- and they're glued to your foot again. Sounds like a hassle but it's not.

Kodiak6

Right. I concur. Just every couple of days and they're really stick again.

Just got mine today and I noticed that if one has a sweaty foot problem then they stop sticking.

Stellaz
01-16-2006, 06:13 PM
I suffer from the "sweaty foot" problem too. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif If you notice them stopping to stick because of the sweat just let them air dry for a few seconds and they're good to go again.

I'm soooooo stoked to have a new pair!!! (Then again I've been told I'm a dork ....... but I'm still stoked).

I had a pair of those in the 80's. The technology wasn't very advanced at that time. The glue didn't really work very well, and they didn't stay on. I liked the fact that my feet were bare on top, but I wasn't thrilled by the fact that they were attached to something on the bottom. From that standpoint it was almost like I was wearing regular shoes.
When I'm not barefoot, I tend to wear flip flops/rubber thongs with fairly narrow straps. They don't cover much, and give me a great feeling of being bare, but still satisfy the "shoe police"

sunnyb; wooden shoes? where do you get wooden shoes?
most likely couldn't wear something like that myself.
those "sticky shoes" may give them a try. i have to wear some sort of protection on my feet, and in summer never wear a regular shoe unless at work.
seems if memory serves these things first appeared in the 60's as womens fashion [high heels]. sure they work a lot better now. never understood why women wore a high heel shoe. but i did [way back when] own a pair or two of platform shoes. i used to suffer from "saturday night fever".
on i suffer from "saturday night dropsey" come home drop into my chair.

Regardless of what you do, you say, you wear, you don't wear, you think, you beleive, you work, you vote, you smell. you like, you ANYTHING there is that someone that will complain to say "Don't, do it MY way! You are wrong!!".

Unless you are taking something away from someone unreasonabley or putting them in danger then those who object need to be told to SHUT UP!

An update to my earler post.

Those topless sandals were a real hit on the cruise ship. Each time I wore them, several people just had to come and ask how they stayed on. When people asked about them, I gave them the URL, so the site should see more activity soon. Then there were the people that looked and tried not to be obvious about it. Even the INS people on St Thomas were impressed, and I think it made their day. It was a good decision to make that puchase.
