I was thinking about how more college students could become involved in nude recreation. One of my closest friends (a college student) became involved after I introduced him to a nude beach. So I believe that many students of that age may not become involved because they don't know where to go or they may not be aware that it is socially acceptable. Anyway, I have felt regret when throwing away legitimate nudist literature after reading it. It seems like a waste of valuable resources. Periodicals like Nude and Natural, Travel Naturally, the AANR Bulletin, and South Florida Free Beaches Sundial. So the last time I was done with the magazines, I stopped by our local university and just left them laying around campus (like in the library or the newspaper racks of the campus paper). Hopefully, the students who find them will read them (students of that age have a lot of curiosity). And maybe some of them will seriously consider looking into or trying nude recreation. What do you think of this idea? I would like to hear other's opinions.

Hey Cracker -
Great idea!!!! Good on ya mate. You might also want to put in a free pass or two to a club as a bookmark. (I know Paradise Lakes in your neck of the woods has a big stack lying out at the front desk) just to encourage a visit.
The only issue though is that most of these pubs feature older folks, which may be a turn-off to college students. But, it's worth a try.
I have often thought why don't the nudist organizations go to non-nudist venues like music fests or art fests with a booth. The US Army sends recruiters to recruit kids at shopping malls, where they hang out (see Farenheit 911), why cant AANR, TNS or clubs have booths at events attended by the target market??

Great ideas - Brian, I like your idea of going to music or art festivals. I know when I was younger I had problems finding out how to find out about nudism.

Hey Brian,
You make some great points. Some of the pubs actually try to show a cross section of all ages, so there are quite a few pics of young people and college age in some of them. One Bulletim had only pictures of older people so I did not leave it at the campus. Everyone, what are some other good public places to leave used publications where the younger crowd might read them?
And BTW, where do you backpack, north Georgia?

Great initiative, Brian.
Wreck Beach, Canada's #1 clothing-optional beach, is on the campus of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. It gets thousands of visitors on a warm weekend.
Many, maybe a majority, of the beachgoers are students, which proves that if you build it, they will come.

What about college newspapers and radio stations? From my experience, I would speculate that it would be fairly easy to convince a person with a radio show to let you on the air to discuss nude recreation during Nude Recreation Week. If this is coordinated with a local club which would be holding a free vollyball tournament or providing free pases for college students, it should be allowed on the air. The only catch is that you cannot promote the club if it is a for-profit entity.

My oldest son is now away at college and has not given up his nudist ways. He lives in the dorm where nudity is not uncommon although most of the guys will wrap a towel around themselves for the walk from their room to the bathroom/shower. Josh just does not bother with that ritual. He remains nude most of the time while in the dorm but will dress for dorm parties. He has told me that he has frequently been walking down the hall when a female is visiting and has not created an issue.

I currently go to the University of Nebraska. I have thought about putting an ad in the paper but figured I would get a bunch of sickos...but I'd also get a few people seriously interested. Nebraska is a VERY conservative state. Only found 4 nudists in the entire state.
I think if recruiters went it'd get only the serious people.

About six or seven years ago, I went back to my old university (UQAM, in Montreal). I was in another university at the time, but I was still in Montreal and UQAM's library had a book I wanted.
The main hall is always a busy place. There are often student booths where everything is offered, from trips to used books. The particular week I went back, the theme was Sports & Leisure (hiking, gyms, etc.).
Imagine my surprise when I saw two students promoting a non-landed naturist group (accredited by the Fédération québécoise de naturisme) selling the merits of nude canoeing, with video... http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Your local coffee house might be a good place to leave some pubs.

FL Cracker, this is kinda funny as your comment about the bullenit and other info being left at the local college, because as a college student, I too thought about doing just that. I have a bunch that need to go, but I didn't want to throw them away! Just havn't found time to pack them all up!

Tophatfrog,
I hope you are able to find the time. But I wouldn't just dump them all at once on campus. That could cause a negative stir. Leave them a couple at a time around campus each time you go to class. Maybe someone will see the benefits and give nude rec a try!

Thanks Cracker http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You might want to team up with JayFromFLA on this one. I saw a post this week he wants to start a USF naturist group. He could help you out!
You might also want to petition the AANR for some of their new photos from their website and stuff which shows a younger group of people.
Why not get AANR, TNS and other organizations to "split the bill" on a "Youth-oriented Naturist brochure or newsletter" which shows young people and especially addresses their needs?? All organizations would benefit . . .
Other places to leave stuff?? Starbucks?? Again, JayFromFLA would know specifics in your area.
BTW - The "backpacker" is from the two big events in my life. I backpacked Europe in '95 which led me to live and go to grad school there three years, and Australia in '03, which led me to . . . don't know yet http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
