I am headed to Tampa later this year and wanted to start making plans to visit a nude beach. Suggestions anyone?
I'll also be over on the east coast that same trip, so will visit Apollo Beach - my favorite.

There are no nude beaches in the Tampa area, tho there is a group who is trying to establish one at Fort Desoto State Park at the entrance to Tampa Bay. They go nude there from time to time but it is risky. You could get ticketed and/or arrested.
Best bet is Playalinda/Apollo, or enjoy the collection of nudist resorts just north of Tampa. Lake Como and Caliente have small beaches on their lakes. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

Thanks for the info. I will have a car, so any beaches within an hour or so, maybe south? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Nope!
You'll have to drive at least three hours from Tampa to get to a nude beach. They're all on the East coast.
Actually there IS a group in Fort Meyers that has a beach but it is on private property and I believe you have to be a member to use the beach (and then only during their official beach ouitings). See http://www.sanibelnaturists.com for more info

Doug is (as always) correct, there are no nude beaches on the west coast of Florida (we are very conservative and prudish on this side of the state). http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif I doubt that the Sanibel club would be an opportunity for you. Having said that, there are a number of great nudist resorts in the Tampa Bay area. I would encourage you to research some of them.

Well I can't say I am always correct, but I am in this case, unfortunately http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

I remember hearing once about some nude use on Egmont Key several years ago, and possibly some other islands in Tampa Bay that can only be reached by boaters. Does this still continue?

I believe some still do visit Egmont Key. I have a friend who has a boat and he and his family go out there occasionally. It's more of a nude boating/swimming excursion tho since you are not allowed to step foot on the island (it's a protected wildlife refuge)

I seem to remember that there are small uninhabited islands and sandbars a bit south of Fort Myers in the bay west of the Everglades.
Anyone care to comment on opportunities for nudity down that way?
