Have a good time at Sandy Hook. I wish I could be there too. I do not think that you will find many other opportunities as you go south along the New Jersey coast.

I almost got a friend of mine to go with me last weekend, but she read some posts somewhere about there being lots of gawkers and people with cameras all over the beach this year.
Can anyone confirm whether this is true or not, or was this just an isolated incident? Thanks...I really want to take my friend without any problems.

GaryCooper675;
Taking a "hot little asian girl" to a nude beach is not really what this forum is about.

Unfortunately there are always gawkers at Gunnison - it's a public beach. As cameras go -not usually obvious - but plenty you don't know about.

BareWidget,
You won't have any problems at Sandy Hook. The beach is not overun with gawkers or people who are sneaking photos. The beach is full of people who keep an eye out for troublemakers and promptly get rid of them fast if they start any nonsense. Please go to the beach this weekend as the forecast for Sandy Hook is going to be really nice. When you get to the beach, find a nice couple and ask if you can set your towels down by them. I am sure they will help you with any problems and I know that you will have a great time in the sun. Don't let anyone scare you with rumors from going to that beach.

was JUST there today. absolutely no issues with gawkers or cameras that I noticed. Tons of people having fun, chatting with each other and enjoying being naked. You should go for sure, Bare Widget.

I was there two Saturdays ago. On vacation from Ohio. Aside from the bumper to bumper to bumper traffic http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shocked.gif I had a great time. No gawkers or any other kind of troublemakers that I could tell.

Do you guys live under a rock or haven't you been there more than twice.
Sure, its the best place in the world if you ain't been there more than once or twice.
But start thinking its all innocent and keep going and you'll see the difference.
People are plenty friendly alright. Sure everybody is friendly cuz everybody is naked, but you'll never see the same ones there again too often.
Don't get me wrong - We love it there, and we'll be there again. But if we're not sociable please don't wonder why.
When your'e with 1000-3000 naked strangers within sight distance to one of the biggest cities in North America the attitude is quite different than if we are cooking some steaks on our back deck with some friends and relaxing in the hot-tub after. Or if we weekend in their camper and go skinnydipping in the evening.
Like I said before, we'll go to Gunnison lots more. But our attitude is guarded.

In your post of March 4 regarding the Eastern Gathering in Lenox, Ma you stated I would encourage anyone to go and find out for themselves. I've always found naturists to be somewhat of an adventuristic sort. (did I just make that word up?) And in my optimistic opinion its all what you make of it.
I guess either your only trusting of nudists in a smaller venue (Lennox, MA vs. the NY Metro Area) or you are no longer optimistic.

Maybe I am not as experienced as some at this computer/internet thing.
I was trying to respond to Bare Widget's post involving a question about the place and also 4 out of 5 posts in response to hers.
By the way, I would guess that you guessed wrong when you said:

I just call them as I sees them.
But I haven't been posting on here on an average of 1.021918 times per day for almost 3 years now so what do I know.
Stupidity may be a handicap and therefore an excuse. But, choosing ignorance should be painful!

I guess if you saw my March 4 post then you also saw this one on March 21:
Soon after cable TV came to our remote little town I was watching the likes of Bill Dance, Hank Parker and so forth.
I made a comment to my Momma how nice it must be to go fishing all the time.
She told me to quit watching life pass me by and go do it.
So I bought a boat.

More then catching your drift, I can smell it from a mile away! You may wish to check your attitude at the door. If you believe that one can't participate in an online forum while living a full life you may not be up to multi-tasking. From your posts I can tell I've spent more time at nudist venues (clubs, indoor swims, and beaches) all the time working a full time job and mostly beiing a full time student. I need not allude to my drift...my course is both plotted and on-course.

I don't know why this happens either. inthewind's comments about Sandy Hook were a bit vague, and it seemed to me that NudeTopher initially was asking for clarification. Why this needed to become insulting I have no idea.
As far as I'm concerned, any day at Sandy Hook is a good day!

I agree that any day at Sandy Hook is a great day. I was there last evening. Because it was late in the day, the beach population was small. The people were friendly and everyone was having a good time.
The only complication at the moment is that walking access up the beach to the north is blocked off for the annual bird nesting season. That will end soon. In the meantime, it is still a good place to be.

Inthewind,
Of course your attitude is going to be guarded. It will be at any nudist beach. What you say is very true about being on a very relaxed beach that is very close to a very congested and heavily populated area with many serious crime issues. People who come from those areas do not automatically let their guard down while on the beach. Howvere, if you are upfront, honest, and sincere with people, then the decent people will respond in kind. If a person goes to Gunnison and gives anyone a reason to wonder about them, then they will be treated with suspicion or ignored.
There is a group of regulars at this beach who do look out for one another. It is best to spend time at that beach and know people. Actually, the BEST time of year to go to Gunnision is after Labor Day and during the month of September. By then, the hoards of tourists are gone, you can actually find a parking space in that huge parking lot, the air is crisp and clean with lower humidity then in Summer, and the beach is much less populated and with mainly local people. It is an entirely different experience then going in the middle of Summer. Consider a trip in Spetember and enjoy the beach without all of the traffic and hastles of huge mobs of people.

I've been to Sandy Hook many times. I plan to go mid-August if anyone wants to meet up. The one thing I like about going after Labor Day is the smaller crowds. Also, the water is still warm enough for a swim.
It's close, it's convenient and it's nude. What could be better?

Ktmndst84, your above description of your Sandy Hook experience is really accurate and I couldn't agree with you more.
Sandy Hook is a great beach and I enjoying going when I can. Because of its close proximity to major cities: NYC, Philly, and NJ cities it attracts a wide variety of people of different races, cultures, sexuality. It is quite a diverse beach. It is a bit of a catch 22 because it also attracts a large variety of eccentric people.
I have witnessed things that made me shake my head in disbelief. For ex: I once saw a man who roamed the beach with a dog collar and leather harness, I've seen men walk around with an erection as they follow women, and I have seen couples engaging in sexual activities in their "privacy screens."
The beach also attracts its share of gawkers. Group of guys who remain clothed and just walk or sit around gawking at people.
Despite all of that, it is a fun beach. A lot of young adults and a great beach to meet people. I have met some people around my age who I keep in touch with.
I do wish it was patrolled like other beaches (i.e. Haulover).

Reminds me of a story of a nuturist woman who would go swimming from one of the Santa Barbara Naturist beaches. She would swim far from shore until one day everything changed. She was swimming along when some fishermen saw her swimming nude and got so excited that they grabbed their net and tried to catch her in their net. She escaped but learned that it can be dangerous to swim nude far from shore.
Perhaps we need to get out the "Nesa Net"???

i completely agree that it should be monitored because most of what i saw was negative, like some guy pleassuring himself and a married couple participating in sexual acts and all i wanted to do was sun bathe naked lol. its a place you have to experiance and a place you don't bring young kids lol

My wife and I had our first experience with nude recreation at Gunnison ten years ago. On that day we found it to be a beautiful beach, and the only thing we found out of the ordinary was genital piercing which we had never seen before. Over the years we would spend about three days each summer at Gunnison. During that time the most shocking thing I saw was a guy who was walking around with an erection. Rather than being a place to which one would not to bring children, I think we saw adults with children, (sometimes three generations) at every visit.
We stopped going a couple of years ago because my wife's knees are not as good as they used to be and the shore had developed a steep drop off when she entered the water. She found she could no longer easily get in or out, and she loves to swim in the ocean. I'm saddened to learn that the place has become a spot for open sex and masturbation. This is the sort of activity that leads to the closing of clothing optional beaches.
I will say that we never went to the beach when lifeguards were not present and we always sat near the lifeguard stations. Perhaps the odd activity does not take place at those times in those areas? I hope so because we may be in the New York area sometime this summer and I was toying with the idea of an afternoon at Gunnison.
