What do men and women do about pubic hair? Should I shave it off if I go to a resort?

Bigdogg--
This question has brought many discussions to this forum, but the bottom line is that is a personal choice, and whether you shave down there or not is entirely up to you. There are both kinds at resorts, so either way, you'll find you fit in just find. Besides, no one is supposed to be looking down there anyway, right?

When we are required to be dressed, most of us attempt to make a personal statement as to who we are through our attire. Although, our naked body is about the most personal statement we can make, many of us like to make "modifications". Whether you do this by adding things {tattoos or jewelry} or shaving is your own choice. Whatever makes you comfortable. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There's no actual criteria for being a nudist at a nude resorts/beach. Nudists know that pubic hair is a fact of life and could care less if you have it or not. I've seen and heard of people shaving it all off, trimming it, or leaving it all-natural. Unless it's down-right offensive, nudist could care less. It's YOUR decision.

Pubic hair is really a personal decision. For a lady it does provide a degree of privacy that is lost if you elect to shave or severely trim down there. Not being a smoothie, I can only report that shaving does bring some discomfort to the shaved areas.

Isn't that against the promotion of body acceptance? Aren't we as nudists supposed to accept all parts as equal to all others?

Mic

I've been shaven for a few years and it hasn't been uncomfortable at all.

I first asked this question back in september of 2001. I had never been to a nude beach at that time but was planning my first trip.
Since then I have 2 vacations where I spent most of my time on nude beaches. I even spent some time at a nude bar/swimming pool at a small resort.
Never once did I get any negative reaction from the people there.
The nice thing about nudism is that people accept you as you are.

This is your choice.
I trim it regullarly just because I like the way it looks and don't like pubic hair seen when wearing a bikini or a thong. No hygienical reasons, or more comfortable or best to make love, I think that's not a big trouble.
Only have full shaved once but I didn't enjoy it, particularly when it was growing.

I am on for whatever makes the individual comfortable with their own bodies...personally I prefer to trim, mainly because when I don't, the hair has a way of getting out of controll, and secondly, trimming or completely shaving decreases the unpleasant odors during certain times of the month /infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

I have been shaving for years. When I first started, it was a bit unusual and I got a few "stares." But now, it is a wide spread practice. I personally like the way it feels and looks but it is a personal decision. It also helps to shave or trim if you want a truely all-over tan. Best of luck.

Ive kept my pubic area neatly trimmed for a number of years now, Ive never had any negative or positive comments about my appearance in nudist settings, I just like the look and feel much in the same way as I do the hair on my head. I feel its just a matter of personal choice. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
Shaving is a personal choice and not a matter of acceptance or hygiene. Trimming to avoid little ringlets around the swimsuit is expected, it used to be called the summer shave. Before the sixties that was not even necessary.
Today is is a choice, however I feel that a woman intends to expose their sexuality when they shave. A little bit of fur offers some modesty.

Mic

I recall when I was very young but I guess in publesence, We had a girl and I say girl because she was early teens, she was a life gaurd at our local pool, she was a pretty girl, she always wore one piece suits but I guess they were a little too small, she apparrently had much pubic hair because she stuck out beyond the suit alot. most of us kids noticed this and went out of our way to get a good look. All I can say to this is a bikini trim is probably a good thing, or be naked.

Yes, Cyndiann, I was told to always look at people's faces. I suppose that meant when you were up close to them. At that time, being new to naturism, I thought it meant not to EVER look at the genital area. However, from a distance it's impossible to look at someone without seeing everything. Some things like piercings and tattoos draw attention to certain areas. I'm not passing judgment; I'm simply stating a fact. A man with a ring in his penis, or a woman with rings in her nipples will draw attention. Tattoos draw attention. I've seen some very attractive tattoos and have considered getting one myself. I saw a woman once with sparkly stuff all over her body. Do we pretend it's not there, or pretend that we didn't see it? Was the sparkly stuff meant to draw people's attention? Who knows.
To shave or not to shave (to paraphrase Shakespeare) is NOT the question. We keep saying it's a matter of choice, but some like to judge and condemn because of shaving, piercing or tattooing. Apparently, body acceptance has it's limits for some people. Personally, I like seeing a body that is shaved and without the last two, but that's just my preference. I try not to let it affect my opinion or acceptance of people. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can say for fact that some women do shave for purely hygenic reasons. For example, my fiance, who is not a nudist (although I'm hoping she will be someday), uses hair clippers that are part of her epi-lady a few days before her period begins to trim the hair to a short stubble. She says that it makes it much easier to keep clean that way. She tried shaving but she says that it itches too much when the hair begins to grow back. And, since she works in a pharmacy where she stands in plain view of customers all day, she can't afford to be scratching her crotch while putting their pills in bottles. She knows that if she shaved daily (or possibly every other day) she wouldn't have that problem. However, she says that she is too lazy to shave every day. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Hope that helps.

Sue Johanson, the leading sex educator on TV has this to say about shaving - Each person has their own individual smell, and this smell is captured on the pubic hair. This smell acts as an aphrodisiac to our partner, so why would we want to shave it off?
I would think that bathing will take care of most situations, instead of shaving. However, I too, say to each their own preference.

Most people shower at least once a day and use deoderants and perfume to replace natural smells. It is not politically correct to smell like a human.

Well, I had a bit of a trim myself, this weekend. It was rather fun. I have not gone full-smoothy but I did give it some shape. Just the pubes however because I like the feel of my body hair. I do not know about pharmones (sp) on the pubic hair region, but interesting theory. Do what makes you feel good about yourself. I saw a guy with 8 piercings in the head of his penis the other day and that caused me to cringe...not at him, but the thought of doing that to myself. Viva la diference! I observed a fellow student in the lockerroom also, with incredible tatoos that told of an ancient Japanse mytholocial being. His art work was awesome. It covered his back and came around to the front and encased one of his breasts. It was an awesome sight. He loved the attention that all of the guys in the lockerroom gave him. He is engaged to be married and his fiance has some tatooing as well, but not near as much, he said. I would not want to cover my body in tatoos, but I respect others right to do so. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
It is come as you are not, who do they want me to be? It is always up to you what you want, and I enjoy without, as does my wife. You will be surprised how many people shave once you get out there.
