We may find out tomorrow (Sunday May 16).
Andy said that if he faked his death, he would reappear after 20 years. Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of his "death" from lung cancer (he was a non-smoking health nut).

I think he really died back in 1984, but if anyone could pull off such a deception, it is Andy. Anyone give odds?

Andy Kauffman is dead? Strange, I just had dinner with him and Elvis over at Mahatma Ghandi's house! We had just come back from the Jimi Hendrix concert, and had been pleasantly surpised by the unexpected arrival of Janis Joplin and John Belushi! River Phoenix and Kurt Cobain couldn't make it, though. They were making an appearance in a tortilla at a Taco Bell in Spokane, Washington. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think he's alive and has been doing an elvis Impersonation for the past twenty years, that's why people keep thinking they saw him, uh huh.

If you have ever seen the old television sitcom "Taxi", he was one of the drivers. I believe his name was "Yaka" (sp?) Very funny comedian. He had a skit on Saturday Night Live and he was just hilarious. He was also a pretty good impersonator. One of his favorites was Elvis, and he did a great job.

Andy Kaufman (http://andykaufman.jvlnet.com/) was "Latka" on Taxi, based on his "foreign man" character. He did an astoundingly good Elvis impersonation back before being Elvis became an industry. He was Elvis' favorite Elvis. Not to mention Mighty Mouse and those bongos.
The Jim Carrey movie Man on The Moon (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125664/) is based on his life.

Thanks Naturist Mark, for correcting me on Andys' name on 'Taxi'. I was close, but oh well. As you stated, he did a wonderful impression of Elvis. I have yet to see the Jim Carrey movie.

By the way, Latka was not a cab driver. He was a mechanic...remember the full cover overhauls he wore? Indeed, a very funny guy! Sawdust

I'm with No Threads, it doesn't seem like it's been 20 years already! I guess it's like they say...Time is fun when you're having flies!

Andy is alive!!! I saw him today at the Capital City Marathon in Olympia, Washington. I was right after I had the big blow out at mile 24, /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif one of the lingering side effects of radiation form 2 year ago ( thank god for porta potties) I saw him running in his Elvis outfit. Or was I just delirious from the run and the blow. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It would be pretty awesome if he rose from the dead or came out of hiding or whatever, but I don't think that'll happen.
Latka lives!
My understanding is that Andy Kaufman is about to be released from Guantanamo Bay after being held there for 20 years. They've got another guy there who claims to be Elvis, but a senior interrogator is quoted as saying they're going to keep the Elvis guy there until he sings.

Considering Andy Kaufman didn't show up yesterday, I think we can safely assume that he didn't fake his death is really is dead...

Oh well. Even if he beat the odds and returned, I don't think people would really be ecstatic over it.
"You pretended you were dead for 20 years? That's dispicable!"

Uhh... I think I may have been a little hasty. It seems that Andy Kaufman DID fake his death and is now back among us:

Here's his official website: http://andykaufmanreturns.blogspot.com/
It seems he's going to submit DNA and fingerprints to prove that it's really him.
