View Full Version : Is shaving OK

Hi, I am new to naturism but very keen to go to my first beach soon.
The thing is I keep my genitals pretty much fully shaved as I enjoy this. Would nudists view this as rude or not acceptable or something.
I don't want to cause a scene or insult others.
Any advice?

You won't cause a scene at all.. a great many nudists are "smoothies" as you are. It won't be an issue.

I have a reputation for being opinionated and judgemental about a lot of things, but this is not one of them.

As long as you do not roam the beach shaving other people while they are napping in the sand, I think you'll do just fine.

May i wonder aloud why smoothie is so desired? I have done the full shave and i think it sucks! I have NO desire to look like a 13 yr. old again in that sense, lol. Its not like we intentionally grow our hair as a cover up so why take it off? Thanks.

No one really cares. Nowadays shaving is becoming as common as those Lance Armstrong bracelets, in the nudist world and the "unreal" (textile) world too. Some do, some don't. Nudism isn't about your pubic hair (or lack thereof) anyway.

Nudism is freedom, so you're a free to shave or not your pubes if you like it.

At the resort that I go to, most of the women are shaved & a good percentage of the men are also. I do shave.

I was at a resort in north Georga this weekend and the day I was there I would say most of the women were trimmed or shaved and a good 80% of the men were likewise. And many of these folks were hardcore NASCAR fans to boot! What surprised me were the number of young people shaving, guess it is cool. Been smooth here for many years never had a problem.

Hi Garvie,
As all the others have said it doesnt really matter whether you shave or not nobody takes any notice as long as you dont go flaunting yourself around. Just enjoy yourself.

Whatever floats your boat. I once shaved myself but it did nothing for me, so I let it grow back again.

Had my first nude beach experience at Mazo Beach in Wisconsin the beginning of August, and although I personally keep my pubes neatly trimmed and shave my scrotum and shaft, I had no idea what to expect from others there. Would I fit in or look out of placce?
As it was, I saw everything from shaved head to toe to shaggy full bush, and even some trimmed just like me. So it made no difference.
Whatever floats your boat!

I started shaving my pubic area years ago, when I had an operation and the nurse shaved 1/2 of the area anyway. I did it just to even things out but my wife liked it so I have kept doing it ever since.

The only people that have even asked me why I do it arn't nudists.

I like the look and feel of the pubic area shaved. I was in the hospital a few weeks ago, and the nurse shaved part of the pubic hair. It looked so odd partly shaved that I shaved the rest of it. It's growing back and I'm debating whether to let it or keep it shaved. I used to shave it but got tired of the bother of keeping it shaved.

As most people have said - this is a personal choice. I've been smooth for quite a few years and like both the look and the feel of being smooth. Never had any negative comments from nudists or non-nudists. In fact, since I usually shave in the shower room at the Gym, I've noticed that others are also becoming "smoothies".

If you like the look and the feel but don't want to be busy with the razor get the hair either waxed or sugared away - gets rid of all the hair for a couple of weeks and very easy to get smooth thereafter

Easy! First, hold your breath; Second, make sure the razor is brand new and never been used; Third, don't sneeze <<oops! rim shot!>> http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Fourth, a lot of soap or shampoo or shaving cream covering everything; Fifth, very carefully. Used to be that if a guy shaved anything below his neck it was considered "feminine" if you catch my drift. The first time I saw a fully shaven man I had to do a double take. Especially if his pubic hair was shaved. But it has become so commonplace lately I rarely notice. Must admit however that I and most women I know like the smooth look on the men.

I like my fur, it is there for a reason, to prevent chafing. Notice where the fur is and you will see it has a purpose. I find it detracts froim our animalistic-self to take away what nature gave us. It is a trend that will hopefully go away soon. I shaved my balls once, but they kept sticking to my inner legs and was uncomfortable with the new hair poking my legs. It almost drove me to put underwear on, but I resisted and am happily commando again and will stay that way, thank you...

Whatever makes you comfortable David, is OK for you. The way I see it, removing your clothes is only 1 step in the process of being nude. Exposing your skin by removing the hair is the ultimate statement of nudity. The skin is the body's largest sensory organ. Why keep it covered, even with hair? I admire all these guys who make the choice to remove that last layer of body covering and become the ultimate nudist.

Ginger,

In David's case, (at least based on his avatar)most of his skin is exposed, he has just a bit of hair around the pubic area. So I don't think someone in his situation is denying his skin to himself or his partner.

I have heard that some couples trim or shave the pubic area for easier love-making, so your point may have some merits, but if shaving leaves David itchy and distracted, it is not such a good thing. Maybe a little trimming would be enough, don't you think?

Some guys are hairy from head to toe and total body shaving is simply not practical and is nigh impossible if one lives alone and is extremely hirsute.

It is easier for the naturally smooth guy to accept himself and the naturally hirsute guy to accept himself. Why try so hard to be what you are not?

It is very common at our nude beach to see people who shave their pubic hair to one degree or another. I must say I haven't seen too many people on the beach fully shaved. But many men, like myself, have a shaved scrotum, with the hair above the penis left in a natural state. That is very common, on our beach anyway. I have shaved that way for several years for the comfort of it, but it seems to be becoming almost "the fashion".

My husband is not quite covered in fur from head to toe, but has average hair on his body. So when I finally was able to convince him to give shaving a try, he made me a proposition. Since I wanted him to do it and it was going to be his "chore" I had to participate and assist him. So he shaves the easy to reach places and I shave his hard to reach places and together we get the job done so that he is smooth from the neck down and is able to maintain it that way. It is something that we do together that we both enjoy doing and get pleasure out of. However when it comes to me, I invested the money and got laser treatment. Took about 5 sessions and about $500 but I don't need to shave or wax the pubic area ever again.

I have heard of others doing this, mainly women, but it seems like such an unnessesary procedure. I would not ever have it done, I'm more of a trim it up and make it look neat guy myself. But I am curious, what was the prodedure like? Was it painful or embarassing? Was it done at a salon or at a clinic or doctors office? Just curious.

I would say preference takes precidence functionality. We all know that natures intent is not always what a person prefers. Most of us guys shave healthy natural fur off our faces and maintain a short furry haircut on our skulls. We cut our nails from time to time. Females also tend to enjoy enhancing nature sometimes, with paints and whatnot. Most people also like bathing. man, i hate it when my small stuff sweats!

for me, nudism is not about getting back to nature. in my mind, that viewpoint borders on wanting to become more like an animal, and i'm not sure what the appeal is.

i don't shave my pubic hair. i've thought about it, but no. my body is quite hairy -- very hairy legs and butt, extending to my lower back; hairy forearms and underarms, with some on the chest. i think it would look silly to shave my pubic hair and leave the rest, and i really don't see the point in shaving the rest.

i think most hairy guys are probably in my situation. i've only been to one socially nude event, and i think the smoothies were already mostly smooth to begin with, whereas the hairier guys just let it grow. i also didn't notice any older guys who were smooth, so maybe it's more common for younger people.

my wife used to be a smoothie. it beginning of it was that she didn't want to grow up when puberty hit, so she just kept the pubic hair shaved off and grew to like the feel of it. i told her i like a little hair (not a bush), but she surprises me every so often with a clean shave. doesn't matter to me, it's the same person either way. i'm glad she likes me the way i am, because i don't even like the chore of shaving my face, let alone my whole body.

nudism is about accepting our bodies, so i can see why you would ask if pubic shaving is ok. the simple answer is YES, just as underarm shaving is ok, leg shaving is ok, facial shaving is ok, haircuts are ok.

Even when I am not shaving my body hair I have never been a very hairy person so that of course makes it easier when I do shave. If I was as hairy as some guysI do agree that I would not think it worth the bother to even try to be a smoothie.

As far as it is okay it is up to each person if they want to do it or not but of course I believe it is okay to do. Some people don't like it because of how it looks or feels. Others do not think it is a good idra for health dangers, some real some imagined such as risk of infection. But as far as whether or not it is morally okay to do, I would say that there is no question in my mind there isnothing wrong with it. Anyone who feels differnt certainly has that right and doesn't have to do it, but I would say that at least most people that shaving body hair is not in and of itself morally wrong whether they choose to do it themselves or not.

Shaving is a personal decision. I find that more and more people are shaving. I do believe that there are some regional differences. At Orient beach the majority of women were shaved and I would guess that a good 60 percent of men. At Toronto's clothing optional beach the numbers are quite less. Many people who have no tan lines are shaved though. Just be yourself, enjoy being a naturist.

When you shave, you will feel yourself much more clean and relaxed.

Well, my experience is quite the opposite... I am not shaved and I feel very clean... I take showers. And as for relaxed... just the thought of a razor near that part of my body makes me tense.

Seems like too much work to maintain.

It is a personal choice. I keep myself trimmed, but not completely bald. I like when guys keep themselves well trimmed too.

I look forward to my first visit

Of course its acceptable. And so many of us do shave in varying degrees.

My wife is a full smoothie and I keep everything well trimmed, including chest and back.

i wouldn't imagine what difference it would make. I personally am no fan of there being any sharp objects down there, But i wouldn't judge. I'm more concerned with a person's brain than how much hair they have..

Why not visit the "shaving" section under the FAQ. It would be interesting to note the reasons for shaving: aesthetics, comfort or acceptability.

Whatever style you choose or to whatever degree you want shave is, of course, a personal choice.

Personally, I find it more convient just to "trim" down there. Shaving requires the luxury of time.
