Hello everybody!! Greetings from the Emerald Isle. Am a thirtysomething naturist, currently single. Was wondering if there are any Irish nudists out there that would like to talk about their experiences of naturism in Ireland or in general. Personally I find that in Ireland naturists tend to be from 40+.

Dia duit! Conas tá tú?

Good day! How are you?

Glad to have you on the forums Hibernius. I know there have to be a few other Irish members around here somewhere.

I'm of Scott/Irish ancestry myself.

I'm not from Ireland but my wife traces her ancestry back there to the 1700's. I believe the family is from the Limerick area.

Hello great to hear from all of you guys!! There are a small group of naturists in Ireland. Naturism is still frowned upon due to the attitudes of the Catholic Church etc. although it is changing. Personally, am a spiritual/religious person and see no contradicton between naturism and christianity.

dear Hibernius.
This is absolutely correct, there is no contradiction. The human body is the GOOD creation of God.

Hi Hibernius. I'm one of those older naturists' from Ireland, (53) that you mentioned. I'm from the North not religious at all. Unless you class nudity as a religion. Anyway welcome onboard........

Well, I guess I missed something. I'm Catholic, as are several others here, and I never learned that the Catholic Church frowned upon nudity. Maybe I was absent that day. Probably out skinny dipping. Ha Ha. Anyway, I'm glad you joined Hibernius.

puffledud, maybe it's more a matter of Irish culture than anything official coming down from the Church hierarchy.

The Church is officially neutral about non-sexual nudity. After all, it is a world religion and has to accomodate (within reason) all the cultures of the world, including those where fully covering the body is not done.

Hi Hibernius, well while we are over 40yo we did start our naturist activities when we were in our early 20's. We usually like to go nude near Brittas Bay in Wicklow, but we are from County Armagh. Add us to yahoo if you want to chat.

Hi, Hibernius! I am an Irish ex-pat living in beautiful Southern California. My family lives in Mayo near Westport and up in Sligo. Things are changing, but don't forget that one of the first nudes on a front page of a European newspaper occured in the Irish Times back in the late 1980s (as I remember it was about 87 or 88). It was a guy at a nude beach near Dublin.

There are several nudist clubs in Ireland and I am sure our Irish members can fill you in on them. I used to go home once or twice a year, but travel has become so difficult for me that I am not traveling much these days.

It has been so long since I have used it I have forgotten most of my Gaeilge, though I still keep my very dusty Gaeilge-Bearla by my desk!

Welcome!

I'm a new member to this forum. I'm 30yo and from Belfast.
I've never been to a nudist beach in Ireland though, do any of you have any experiences of the beaches here?

The best and most guarded secret with regard to naturist beches in the Dublin area is no listed on the link above. If you want to know more get in touch. Its a great spot, we just dont want too many teenagers coming along to ppoint and laugh.

I wonder if you're being fair to the teenagers. Where I like to swim _is_ listed, and there are plenty of that age-group in summer, but they generally seem to know how to enjoy the sea and sun (no sand, it's rocky) while letting others do so too. Usually they wear board shorts, but last summer a few dared to go without. I hadn't seen that before in the few years I've been going there, and was glad to discover that the 50-plussers aren't the last generation of nude swimmers. ;-)

Real tasteful freddie....I had a good friend who was murdered in the Omagh bomb in 1998 by the IRA, of who you so jokingly talk about. That stupid comment will ensure I never visit this site ever again as long as stupid, unfeeling people like you are here. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/disappointed.gif I enjoyed coming here too.

If something I say offends someone when IU make a 'joke', I will usually apologise and not make the same sort of tasteless remark again. Call me old fashioned, but I just believe it's manners

Hello. I am Irish living in New York. From Kilkenny. Have been a nudist for years.

Sad to see some jerk thinks bombing and killing are suitable joke material on a site like this.

Hi Drrummer im from dublin but live in cork i have been into nudism for a while now and have been to some beaches in west cork which were listed on the INA web site. The only beach i encountered other nudists was Long Strand they were all male and some of them made me feel realy uncomfortable. Are there real naturists in ireland and where can one find them and is it mxed company or always only males.

John P

Chances are the people at nude beaches in Ireland or anywhere are "people like you and me". We're male and we want to go there, so that's who's there.
