View Full Version : Where is Kentucky?
I always thought Kentucky was in the US, but maybe I was wrong. Maybe it's really in Bali.
And as for the Colonel-----

It's easy to be happy in Bali. The Balinese must be some of the nicest people in the world.
Many Australians regard Bali as our "home-from-home" just "up the road". We go there to get away from our winter.

NOT your average American chicken. I think it must have been Balinese pygmy chicken-like bird. Definitely free-range diet.

Rex (if I can get serial, er, serious just for a moment), what's the situation in Bali now? Do you think they've got the guys who blew up that disco?
2trees...Maybe it was those blue-birds of happiness that were Kentucky fried?...Hope not
The terrorists responsible for the Bali bombing [who were Javanese extremists and not typical of Java] were very quickly arrested in a very efficient Balinese police operation. They were put on trial in a very public manner and were represented and treated in what anyone would agree was a fair manner.
They confessed in court in a way which was probably an embarrassment to their own defence counsels and are now on death row in a Bali prison, awaiting a firing squad. This could be quite a while off, as there is an appeals process which they have access to.
Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, but, like Turkey for instance, religion and government are separate. Bali itself is about 90% Hindu, with the other 10% mainly either Muslim or Christian. There is no religious conflict in Bali, they all live in the same areas, work and socialise together and marry one another.
The Indonesian government and the country's largest Muslim organisation have both condemned terrorist activities. The Australian government has issued travel warnings for Indonesia, but they are in a "damned if we do, damned if we don't" type of situation.
I have a son living in Bali, with a Balinese wife and son. He is currently in Perth for work reasons and can't wait to get back there.
I am going in August with my lady friend and so are about 2 dozen of my friends, in fact we always have friends who are just going or just came back.
Back to Kentucky fried "whatever". You can eat in an expensive restaurant [which I never do] and eat big, plump, white chicken. This is imported from Australia and, despite official denials, is generally suspected of being "pumped up" with goodness knows what. Or you can eat in an ordinary restaurant and get local chicken, maybe smaller and a shade less tender, but much tastier. Definitely free-range, it has scratched around in the mineral rich volcanic and alluvial Balinese soil and so is likely to contain far more natural nutrients.
It's usually served in Bali as "Ayam Goreng" [chicken fried] with steamed rice and mixed vegetables. In the average restaurant [warung], that will knock you back about US$2. Add a large bottle of Bintang beer for about US$1 and you've got a pleasant meal.
Believe it or not, I'm not contracted to the Balinese tourism dept, I just love the place, they're still recovering from the adverse effects of the terrorist atrocity and I would just love to see these friendly tolerant people prospering again.
Thanks Rex for the enlightenment about Bali and their fried chicken....Sounds like a great place to vacation with their beautiful birds ,flowers, waterfalls, etc....Odb /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
