Not required by the Constitution, but what is your opinion of the State of The Nude Nation? By "Nude Nation" I mean we people who would just as soon not wear clothes.

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/no.gifCaptain, I would like to take the poll. However, it is my personal opinion, that no matter who the party is in the white house. We the people will only be told what they want us to hear and the news media will only print what big businesses whats printed. Even though this might be the best country to live in. I harbor strong feelings that we will be brought down from within. Our elected officials (both parties) have their own agendas. And in most part, not always in the best interest of the people they represent.

Whoops! Edited the base post to make it a little clearer that I mean the state of the nude nation: us and our desire to not wear unnecessary clothes.

The state of the whole (other) nation is being polled elsewhere (Open Conversation, I think).

So, FMII, you'd be looking not so much at the white house and the press as at Bare to Breakers and the beaches north of Santa Cruz, etc. What's happening at Lupin. Stuff like that.

IMHO, it all depends on where u live. Here in KY, and from what I have heard, in most other places in the South, trying to even talk about naturism is frowned upon, and I seriously doubt that will change within my lifetime. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

What we really need is a Federal Law protecting simple, non-sexual nudity that can't be overruled by the State or local governments.

Actually illegal in Arkansas.

This is actually a two fold question:

Question 1) How desirable?
I would love it.

Question 2) How likely?
Not a remote chance.
Lets face it. Nudists are smaller than a small minority.

I respectfully disagree. I believe that there are a huge number of "nudists" out there. I think that the majority of people like being nude and wish they could have the option to be naked when they want to. Unfortunately, due to "social" pressures, those people suppress that desire so as to "fit in" to "normal" society. Those of us who don't give a crap about being "normal" are the minority. We need to change what is "normal".

I chose other. My hope is that it is getting better, but I just not sure. I was watching "Survivor" on CBS the other night and during one of the activities one of the guys shorts slid down no more than a couple of inches and they blurred out his backside. When one of the women bent over they blurred her upper body. Completely non-sexual and hardly nudity and yet they blur it out.

It depends what you use as a reference. Compared to the 40's and 50's the nudist state is well and improving. Any movement has its ups and downs. So, just like the stock market, you have to ignore the peaks and valleys and keep your sights on the big picture, the long haul, whatever.

I think it depends on what angle you are looking from. Yes, from many articles and personal reports, it does seem more and more people are trying or including nudity in their daily lives at home. More and more parents (in my experience) are stepping away from the notion that their kids shouldn't see them nude. But that doesn't mean they will "spread the word" or make the leap into social nudism.

The aging of the nudist population is a real issue with real future consequences. Sure, there are more, better equipped resorts than there were 50 years ago. But the age demographic is also much older than it was 50 years ago. Our eastern-european counterparts got the right idea by making a sincere effort to keep youth groups alive and well. We tried, but for a variety of reasons, were unable to duplicate that effort. Time will tell what the ramification of an aging nudist population will be, but I can't help but to think it will be bleak.

That may be true, but I do believe there are more nudists that we, in general, really know about. There are some who practice 'home' nudity, but are not members, nor affiliated with any clubs. I do know of some who are home nudists, but they do not 'spread the word', so to speak.

But now back on subject, I would love to live the life of a nudist, but the laws are the laws. I am one of the lucky ones who can be naked in the back yard. Going on 4 years, nobody has said anything. Sure I would love to be naked in the front as well, but all it takes is for one person to call the local authorities.

Oh well, at least the back yard is my only resort, but that's okay with me. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

I agree. We are in a constant struggle for survival here and it is not likely to change. With constant effort will come consistant gains. Over time less of a issue will be made of simple nudity. I think we just need to continue our efforts to educate the public. Invite a news crew to film your event at a public nude beach or resort or get it on the morning radio. Just keep putting the information out there. Sure they will use it for a cheap laugh but the info will reach an audience and out of that may come a new member or two. It will also serve to remind the public we do exist and we are not going to go away. Over time we will we less and less of an big deal being made out of our lifstyle.

Alabama is not into nudity, it would appear. we have one nudist resort, and its only open to couples, and very low key, it would seem and I've only found one non-landed club in the Mobile area, and they too, are limited to only couples. Get with it Alabama, step up and be heard. And so should I.

I voted for other. I guess in many ways we are better, but in many ways we aren't. Look at us... we're the no. 1 industrialized nation in the world, and we stroke out at the site of a mere breast on television!! If you look at any other modern nation in the world, they are quite ho-hum about nudity and body parts. If you took Florida away, this country would be in VERY sad shape when it comes to social nudism. I think we'd be farther ahead if we didn't have lawmakers trying to protect us from ourselves or trying to enforce their values on us.

It depends, really, on what you mean the state of the nude nation. Time magazine had an article in late June 2003 in which they cited AANR subscription rates as having increased by ten thousand in a decade. Nudism appears to be growing.
At the same time, America is becoming more and more religious. I attempted to talk to one of my friends who isn't nudist, and they weren't interested in what I had to say because of a religious argument.
In my personal opinion, nudism is growing, but it's going to come to a head like the civil rights movement in the fifties.
Plus, people do not want to associate themselves with nudism more than they want to associate themselves with clothes-free recreation. CFI used this main point as validation for their name change.

I agree that the state of the nude nation has a lot to do with where you are from. Having lived in Florida most of my adult life, I think there is a larger tolerance than most areas. At one time, saying the word nudist rasied an eyebrow, now, many simply don't care. They may not approve, but don't go out of their way to criticize. The only time it became an issue is when public nudity infringed into areas not designated for such activities. Back home in Montreal, I think most are not non-chalant like many Floridians, but openly and strongly disagree.
