did anyone see the N.G. show that was on last night (cable) which had 25 minutes, most of which was shot at Lake Como about the lifestyle we all love. It was surprising in the fact that while most frontal nudity was pixelated, there were several shots that apparently got through. Overall it was a very good article with some of the usual "negative slant" from supposedly normal people. Most if not all shots from the "rear view" were not pixelated and tried to show that nudists do the same things that everyone else does. So if you saw the show whats your slant on it.

I saw it, ran across just by accident. I thought it was well done and generally supportive. We can't expect too much. The fact that all rear shots were left un-pixelated I thought was remarkable. Even in the context of the show I still think it was basically supportive.
I enjoyed it and applaud them for putting in on.

I sure would have liked to see it, but I didn't know it was on. I also wish I had been there to be in the show. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This episode is kinda freaky for me, because of the inacceptance and how it's portrayed. The dangers of nudism, don't do that! Do it like the special aired in Canada "Baring it All", that was top notch. Although I liked the kids' comments, the girl who was cute- like a newborn. But why did it have to be alongside rats and corpses?

I actually, accidentally caught the show last night also. I thought it was a good and positive show. I recorded it, and plan to make a DVD to show friends that wonder what nudism is all about. I figure it is more convincing than I could be.

Hey NakedIowaman, if you've got the show on DVD, and if you know how, I don't, should'nt you be able to download it to your computer and share it with us somehow? if anyone knows what needs doing there, say so.Or is that something against TOS or infringement rights?

I probably will refuse to see the show when it is repeated, as I think pixelation of any part of the human form is disrespectful to humankind.

Im surprised since it is National Geographic and since the nudity is shown in an informational sense and not a sexual way then I really dont see why they need to pixelate it, because usually educational/informational channels can get away with having nudity in their programs because its obvious the nudity is not meant to be sexual or obscene. Maybe NG is getting paranoid like everybody else thinking the FCC is gonna come after them. I really think its demeaning and insulting to the nudist/naturist community to pixelate the nudity and that should not be tolerated.

Programs of nude tribes in Africa have not been pixelated on the TV programs I have seen in the past, but this week was an exception when the genitals of the men in the African tribes were pixelated, so maybe this is the start of a severe trend regarding nudity on educational/geographical programs, etc.

I think we are still feeling the back lash of Janets boob. In fact I think it took a while for them to change their programing because I remember seeing quite a few shows like that where there was no pixiltation and they were showing full frontal both male and female.

Many years ago, I saw tribal nudity while watching Geography class filmstrips. We were a class of seventh graders. A couple of the students giggled, but the teacher shushed us and told us that we shouldn't make fun of how people from other cultures dressed.

That whole Jackson thing was totally blown out of proportion, come on it was just a boob- not that big of a deal- not much to look at. Now if it was Shakira, I'd be ecstatic.
Has NG done stuff on nudism before? Oh and is the 'grandma' on CFF? She's wonderful. Has she been on tv before? She seems pretty photogenic.
MikeJB

Those people who complain about Jackson's boob are the ones with the problem. Theyre the real boobs out there. Its funny how theyre so content to censor stuff like that, too bad nobody can censor those boobs instead. Theyre the real ones who need to be censored so we dont have to listen to their mindless babbling about how bad and destructive it is to see a woman's breast.

Yes I know all that. What I am trying to say is that, that is the reason why it wasn't censored before but now it is. The networks are still over reacting and since these things take a long time to filter down it will be a long time until the pendulum swings back in our direction. Comprende?

National Geographic channel has Taboo: Extreme Living listed for 4-5 pm ET Thursday, September 1. Don't know if that's the right one, but might be worth checking out.

These networks oughta be smart enough to realize that theyre not gonna get in trouble for showing nudity in an educational program no matter what time of the day it is. I think its demeaning to put these shows on and pixelate the nudity on them because it shows kids what these cultures are doing is wrong and thats not what we want to do. I think there really should be some laws to limit what these people can censor and what they cant so they dont ruin the quality of the show and dont demean something that is just a part of life. Like you dont want to have a show about nudist recreation and then pixelate the nudity just to suit some prude out there because that is unfair to the nudists who are just trying to lead a harmless lifestyle. If people dont want their kids to see nudity then the networks just need to tell them to turn the damn channel.

I agree but that depends on a lot of things like having common sense. Remember common sense is an uncommon virtue. It also hit them in the pocket book they were fined I think or at least threatened with heavy fines. So until the family values crowd gets knocked off their soap box things are likely to remain the same.

If I remember correctly, the FCC only has jurisdiction over material that is "broadcast". That is, programming that you can see or hear with a tv or radio with nothing more than an antenna. They have no jurisdiction over cable or satellite programming.
Likewise, I believe that obscenity and indecency laws do not apply to cable and satellite programming.

Has anyone noticed how long it's been since National Geographic has actually a nude photo inside its magazine? With the exception of a girl's posterior in either the June or July issue, it's been a dang long time. It smells like censorship, but then again in recent years NG has focused more and more on the environment rather than geography.

There also has been a decline in the number of cultures living as we remember NG depicting in years past. As "civilization" has expanded further into the corners of the globe, clothing has gone with it.

The segment on nudists was between a segment on living with rats and one on living with dead people. An odd placement. Hopefully, no one would think nudists are anywhere near as extreme as the other two.

well if you surround yourself amongst kids for too long theyll ask you to leave.
I agree with michjoe, it's kinda creepy that they chose clean nudism to be between rats and corpses.
Another thing that kinda makes me uneasy, touch- none of it there- I thrive on it.

I finally watched the show last night.
I have mix feelings about the show.
Overall, I thought the nudist segment was great. I was a bit dissapointed at a few things.
1) Again, nudism is shown as an interest shared by whites and the middle to old age
2) I was dissapointed at the large amount of obese people, thus, giving into the stereotype that nudists are obese and unhealthy, which I have to admit holds some truth
It was pleasant to see family nudists and also kids practicing nudism but I would have liked to see 20 something people.
Overall, I give the segment a thumbs down but I do believe that the show confirmed a lot of stereotypes about nudists and nudism

(1) Most of the people I've seen ARE of that age.
(2)Many of the people I've seen ARE obese.
I rarely see anyone in their 20's.

This is the first time I see it too. Jon-Marc is right; it was an accurate reflection of the nudist population as a whole.
What I did like about it was that they didn't get "blurr-happy" as other programs have; the blurring was light, and sometimes not even there at all. And they did conclude on a positive note, basically saying: "Don't dog it until you try it." I liked that.
