I heard a story on KFI today stating that some consumer group is suing sunscreen manufacturers and accusing them of being "snake oil salesmen". Am I missing something here? If I don't use sunscreen and run around naked on the beach all day, I get horribly burned and suffer the consequences for weeks. If I use sunscreen, I don't get burned at all. Seems to work for me! How is this considered "snake oil"? By definition, snake oil was of absolutely no benefit, except for the guy who sold it…until he got lynched. Don’t we all use sunscreen as nudists? Should we not be using it?

Just because they are suing doesn't mean they have a case.
I'm pretty sure there is enough evidence that sunscreen works. I don't use the stuff myself. But I have seen it work.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

Not an April fools joke, saw this on the news last night. If not protected from b rays you are still at risk.
Guess I'd better start reading the labels better.

The evidence is mixed. There is some evidence that says that while sunscreens are effective at preventing sunburn, they do little to prevent skin cancer or worse may increase cancer risk. Other studies refute this. Complicating this is the fact that until recently most screens only blocked UVB, but most now also block UVA, so earlier research may be invalid. Or not. Some claim that the chemicals used in sunscreens are toxic and cause skin cancer when broken down by sunlight, they also deprive the body of the skin produced vitamin D that prevents disease and many forms of cancer.

Not a joke shăybare. I saw it on the news last night also.

The suits accuse the companies of exaggerating the effectiveness of sunscreens in three main ways - how long the lotions last once applied, how water-resistant they are and how much of the cancer-causing ultraviolet rays they block out... </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I found Sunblock from "Banana Boat" that is SPF 30+ and protects against UVA and UVB rays.
