If i'm dressed i perfer to wear underware. I like to have that layer of protection between me and the outer layer, particularly after using hte faclilities. Also in wamer weather it soaks up the sweat, rather than making my pants do that job. And I'm always paranoid i'm going to zip myself too. But if I can, i much perfer to be nude.

I stopped wearing underwear a few years ago under the advise of my doctor. I kept having various rashes and problems. My doctor suggested shaving and losing the underwear. He said that they held in the heat, sweat, and bacteria. My skin has always been sensitive and this worked for me. So I will never go back to wearing extra clothing again.

I went to my last physical, and was told to strip to my undies. I just went on down to nothing. When the doctor came in, I asked him if he minded, and his response was: "That's my job. I look at bodies all day long." So next time I'll know not to even wear undies to his office.

Well a few might have control, gastric, gas, or a dribble problem after urination, or other organ leakage fluid drop or two which underwear catches instead of the outer garments.

And the old saying mothers tell their children "Always have clean underwear on in case you get in an accident or injured and have to go the ER or hospital or doctor."

Males sometimes wear underwear under thin dress slacks as to minimize hanging genitals showing an outline on slacks or thin pants.

During sports, exercise, gym, or using weight lifting or exercise equipment many males use athletic supporters and/or briefs for support and as above to minimize showing of a natural semi or erection during exercise.

Almost forgot the younger kids with their calf length oversized baggie fad pants which would fall down unless they held them up is another reason they always wear underwear, or is it?

Another thread suggests the younger generation are taught to be homophobic and modest and to never let anyone see your genitals by wearing underwear to and in the shower, lockerroom or public changing facilities, or hiding under a towel while changing, or if naked hiding your genitals with your hands.

I usually wear boxer style underwear. One advantage not listed by Gary: if you need to change your outer clothing, in some circumstances if you are wearing boxers you may be able to get away with changing in the open (no changing room ), as it can be perceived as being more adequately clothed than briefs. I've gone outdoors many places in boxers only, whereas if I wore briefs, I would be less likely to get by with it. Boxers feel closer to freeballing, too, tho it isn't quite as free. And obviously, when you can't get by in briefs, you can't get by with freeballing, so you couldn't take off the outer pants.

Yes, I suppose those are all valid reasons. In such cases, the garment would serve a purpose. It's just that for most people, I really don't think that it does. Call me odd if you will!

In our day to day lives, it just seems to be something that people don because society says that they should. Anyone who is unfortunate enough to have any of the problems that you listed probably requires something other than "regular underwear".

Hygiene always seems to be the major reason that's quoted - but I always think that:

1. It shouldn't be a problem, if one cleans up properly
2. These days, most people change their outer garments on a daily basis anyway.
3. I'll never be convinced that the variety popular with the female of the species has much in the way of absorbent qualities anyway!

I think that as you have kind of alluded to, modesty seems to be the main reason. I really don't think that most people can tell though, from external appearances, whether someone is wearing underwear or not.

also, one point that naked gary did not address is that if your pants have a zipper, it hurts when you get your pubic hair caught in it or skin. underwear is like a forcefield to protect your prized possesions from the evil zipper. I think things are starting to change because of fashion. My mom bought me a pair of pants from abercrombie and they are lowcut, so the front of hte pants are cut low at the waist and it is uncomfortable to have boxers, and i am pretty sure they are made either for those who freeball or wear small underwear( breifs,thongs). also, personally i have a fast matabolizm and i sweat alot from it, so anything that keeps the sweat from showin on my pants or shirts are a plus.

sportkid, you have great responses. i have some thoughts on this whole underwear nonsence.

Under wear also protects the cut penis from being rubbed raw. I go commando (free balling) but find that if i walk alot, i start to feel raw (like at the zoo!). I also find that you do have to be careful with the zipper. It is much easier to pee when freeballing, just zip and whip it out. I personally hate boxers as they always end up bunched up in my pants.

I don't worry about sweat, it is natural and in south florida, the less worn the cooler you will be. So having another layer of clothes seems silly to me.

I have not worn underwear in years, they are an unnecessary evil thought up by clothing designers to sell more fabric.

I don't "freeball" around the house because 99% of my home time is nude. I Can't recall the last time I wore underwear, just haven't found the need. I solve the "last drip" problem by wiping with a square of toilet paper, or if that isn't available - such as at a urinal in a public restroom, I'll wipe dry with my bare hand - which will then be washed before I exit. You DO wash your hands don't you?

I enjoy not wearing underwear. Haven't since I was 15. It's this enjoyment that has lead me to certain routines. I too had the problem with a few lingering drips early in my "freeballing" stage but since had decided to wait at the urinal a few seconds longer or the stall and relax to ensure I would drip no longer. I've used the toilet tissue method and have shaved smooth and trimmed my pubic hair short enough that zippers are not an issue.

I was once outside on a hot day chatting with a neighbor who was obviously braless under her t-shirt. I was freeballing in loose shorts. I was content knowing that she didn't know that I was freeballing and that she was braless and I could tell, until I saw her staring at my feet. A small puddle of sweat was forming between my shoes.She actually saw a drop fall from under my shorts! I know I sweat alot from that region, but didn't realize how much until that day.

I can only echo the earlier posts, really.

I don't find those last few drops to be a problem, because they're easy to wipe away.

Similarly, I don't have any problems with things getting caught in zippers. I tend not to wear anything tight either - that would almost defeat the object. I think a little care goes a long way, in any case!

Until about a year and a half ago I had never so much as heard the term "freeballing"; then 2 different friends of mine used the expression on 2 different occasions only about a week or so apart. Go figure. (This was in the locker room at the church rec center where we work out, and both guys had neglected to pack clean undies that day!)

I'd gone out in public without underwear on rare occasions in the past, usually for the same reason ... lack of clean drawers! (And that usually because I procrastinate when faced with washing clothes!)

On the other hand, I'd freeballed inside for years; I spend a lot of indoor time naked but prefer to cover my privates in the evening because I live in a highly visible apartment with nothing but frosted glass on the door between me and the world. So, when the lights come on, most often so do the shorts. I have a pair of loose, cotton jersey gym shorts that I especially like to wear for these occasions.

Since browsing through this thread the other day I've been freeballing in public every day. (It helped that I had once again run out of clean boxers...LOL)

One place where it has really helped is at work: I have to sit a lot, and with most types underwear a certain amount of "bunching" around the scrotum is unavoidable and often can be very painful. Freeballing has completely eliminated this problem.

When I was in high school I remember hearing through the rumor mill about a guy a year ahead of me who had stopped wearing underwear. Not long after I heard about it, the dude came to school wearing overalls and I happened upon him when I went to use the bathroom. Don't recall whether I had the nerve to ask him (an UPPERCLASSMAN, after all!) about his use or non-use of skivvies. What I do remember is being somewhat awed at his, shall I say, ballziness in going without.

I have enjoyed reading this thread because of the differences a little thing like underpants can create. I guess the bottom line is that it is all a matter of choice. Freeballing is wonderful. However, when I'm going to be at work then I want to wear undies. I'm just more comfortable. What style of undies you ask? Briefs, the smaller the better. Boxers are just to darn bulky. I've tried the shaving thing. I admit I like it and so does the little lady but honestly, I'm super hairy. I was shaving every day - too much work.

I go without underwear frequently when wearing jeans or shorts as they provide a decent amount of support and restriction, but I've always been nervous about having too much freedom when wearing looser fitting clothes, like a business suit. I've been in awe of (and frankly surprised by the number of!) guys at the gym who I see stepping into our out of their suit pants sans underwear of any type. Its funny as I have no fear of getting an erection at a nude beach, but the fear that the light rubbing against fabric might give me a hard on at the office has kept me from trying it. On Tuesday when I saw yet another guy at the gym drop his towel and step directly into his suit, I vowed to try it on Wednesday thinking that since this is a "holiday" week there would be fewer people around at work if trouble sprang up, so to speak. Well, I made it without incident and I am happy to say that the feeling of "swinging" a bit while walking through the building was awesome. Slighlty tittilating without producing the feared result. I'm hooked!

I know where you're coming from tiger79, over on this side of the pond the euphemism for a ladies pubic region is "Muff" so you're thinking it should perhaps be 'Freemuffing', however I think that 'Freebuffing not only sounds better, but would be better accepted universally.

Freebuffing is common practice amongst many females, nudist or not, although many would be reluctant to admit it.

I've been freeballing consistently since April. I've probably worn underwear twice in that time and I was very aware of its presence and discomfort. I'll probably go back to underwear in the cooler months to avoid the cold draft brought on by the winter winds. And now that I've lost some weight, I'm not as concerned about "wardrobe malfunctions" (pants splitting).

This is one of those "inconsistent" things with me. I'll grab underwear if they're handy when I get dressed in the morning, but I don't lose sleep over it if I they're not. So far, there's not been anything at work that was an issue. There's certainly never an issue over the weekend.

I have to admit that in the winter, I'll look a little longer before giving up on the extra layer of clothing. But even then I don't get too upset about it.

I will do it under shorts in warm weather, as long as the length isn't too short. If a pair of running shorts are real short, I leave the liner in. Otherwise, the liner comes out. Feels a lot better and cooler to not have restrictive underwear on.

Underwear is another of those recent social revolutions that people now assume has "always" been the standard. Not so. I still own one old underwear that I keep in case I have to go to a doctor or somewhere that I'm expected to undress without being naked. But the last time I went to the doctors' I just went naked and she didn't seem to mind. There really isn't any good use for underwear, except the long johns for us men who sometimes have to work outdoors in winter. They hurt more than they help, for women even more than for men.

Physicians sometimes recommend that women do not wear panties so that the air can get to them to help keep the groin dry, to prevent or help heal yeast infection of the vagina.

I've been freeballing since I was 12 or 13. Turned 40 this year. I freeball everywhere and in everything. It doesn't matter if it's work, recreation, sports or whether i'm in shorts, jeans, cargos, linen, suit or a tux. In fact sometimes the thinner the material is the better it feels. I also remove any lining from shorts and swimsuits. Those linings seem so uncomfortable to me and I love the feel of swinging free in jogging shorts!

Funny thing while out with the wife yesterday, she grabbed my butt cheek and realised that I was not wearing underwear. She seemed real surprized and commented that she is seeing changes is me that she is not sure that she likes. Someone on here said it was the next best thing to being naked and I have to agree with that. One time, I was freeballing with a pair of those superwashed and very soft jeans. At some point during a trip to the store, the seat fabric frayed and came apart. I did not discover this until getting home (really enjoy home nudity). I am guessing the seat split open when I got into the car and sat down, but who knows. You think I would have felt the air more easily, so who knows.
