Only in America ...
We are so screwed up as a society that in Utah they have arrested a 13 year old pregnant girl for "sex with a minor" for having sex with her 12 year old boyfriend.
Who in turn has been arrested for statutory rape for having sex with her, "a minor under the age of 14".
Both are considered victims of sexual abuse as well as criminals.
Both have been placed on the sex offender's registry.
Only in America ...
This is F*$#%D up!
Either they are criminals or they are victims or in reality just two 'tweeners' playing an advanced game of "Doctor".
The reaction to their 'situation' is way over the line of insanity on the part of the supposed 'adults' here, i.e., the police, the DA, the press, the local population, etc.
Only in America ...
Protecting our kids from harm is what we do, as we should, but where does 'protection' turn into 'abuse' ... I think right there in Utah.

Now that is truly pathetic and sad.

Pretty messed up, if true. ...Making a bad situation worse.

It just shows how the laws in this country can be so misguided. Those kids will have a tough road to go for mistakes made so early in life.

I thought Statuatory rape required an adult. At least it does here in Georgia.
It sounds like Utah is odd even for America.
There is no crime here.

In Finland they wouldn't, at least, be treated as criminals. The criminal responsibility starts at the age of 15 years. The age of consent is 16 years, but sex between partners who have only a few years of age difference and are essentially on the same level of maturity is allowed. The girl would easily get an abortion if she wanted it but of course it's not mandatory.

As the definition of a minor is someone who is under 18, as most Americans have sex before 18, and given the general accuracy of the legal system, I suggest that all Americans under 18 be immediately classified as sex offenders. Sure would save a lot of paperwork.

Apologies for my previous statement. Upon sober reflection, and reading the following, I retract the above.

In North Dakota, a man and woman who live together without being married are committing a sex crime. It's right there in the law, a state senator says, alongside the prohibitions against adultery, incest and indecent exposure.

I now think that all unmarried Americans of any age who have any contact with members of the opposite sex, should be classifed as sex offenders. Also, sex offenders should not be allowed to marry. Only then, will America be safe.
These kinds of laws simply boggle one's mind. Here is it 2007 and these laws still sit on the books.
What is more appalling is to hear a group support such laws!!!!!
Time for states to get rid of these draconian laws.

The people making these laws have lost their focus on whats really important in society.

Apart from the framers of the Constitution of this country (whose own laws and thoughts have been grossly mis-interpreted by our court system), most of the law makers have been, and remain pathetic idiots. This proves it!

With all the stupid laws on the books, Congress should pass a law that common sense be used in making decisions. Of course there are a lot of different opinions of just what common sense is.

Eh? The way I heard it, "There is nothing as uncommon as common sense."
