I have not been a follower of the Survivor series, but I was working on a project last night which had me in a room with a major fan of the show. The show did contain some blurred nudity. For a TV portrayal, it seemed to show nudity as a matter-of-fact and normal event.

Some setup for those of you who may not have seen the show follows. (Don't worry, this information does not spoil the outcome.)

At the beginning the teams must trade in a village for the items they are allowed to take to their camps. One guy gets this idea that he can sell his nice American clothing so they can trade for more useful items. Well, this seems like a good plan, but his underwear waistband seems to have gotten a bit overstretched. So he is spending all of his time yanking his shorts back up. It kind of reminds me of the teen style of saggy pants.

So, during the challenge, two other guys make a pact. Since the guy yanking his shorts will actually slow them down (being one-handed during the event) they agree that if the shorts fall, they will all three remove their shorts as to not leave the guy hanging alone on a limb. Well, of course, they do end up following through on that.

One of the gals does make a couple of rude comments about the prospects of damage to the genitals, but really, it is just accepted as what you have to do to win. Not meant to shock or to be gratuitous, just simply a state of being appropriate to island life.

As for me, I would most likely have set aside my clothing at the beginning. After all, dry clothes in decent condition might be useful on a cold night or the cloth might come in handy later. Who needs clothing on a day to day basis on a tropical island? Well, maybe sunburn if you are not used to that...

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I also the Survivor show and thought it was great. Being nude seems to me to be a perfect way to live on a jungle island. This made me think wouldn't be great if in a future Survivor show that the contestents be required to be nude for the entire show. What does everyone else think?

It would be interesting and might help promote the nudist cause....but forcing anyone to be nude, if they don't want to be is not always great.

I was reading some posts on this forum from a couple of years back, and the idea of a Nudist survivor had come up.

Who ever went nude the longest wins.

#1) It should not be in an area that stays warm all year. That would be too easy.
#2)women during their cycles would be excluded to having to be completly nude.

I could make up more rules but I am in a hurry. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I think it would be great to have a survivor show where everyone is required to be nude. I would love to be in it. It could be in an area that doesn't get extremely cold for long periods, like Michigan, but does get cold. Of course, it would depend on the time of year.

By "nude", would that mean TOTALLY nude, or could you be considered to be nude as long as the lower part of the body is nude, since the lower body is what most people seem to have a problem with--particularly with males? My lower body can tolerate much lower temps than my upper body.

R.M., Sign me up. Jon-Marc, we could have a blast. I hate cold, but if the payoff is enough, I'll freeze my d-ck off since there is hardly one there anyway. lol

Come down here to Colorado! Aside from the occasional blizzard, it's never really too cold here, unless you're in the high mountains. I'm sure there are some free spirits here besides me who would join you! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A couple of years ago here in the UK one of the TV channels ran a nude game show.

There was a brief flurry of outrage from the usual suspects, mostly accusing the TV channel of sinking low in the search for ratings (though I don't think the show's ratings were particularly high).

The tabloid press predictably made fun of the presenter (a past-celebrity trying to make a comeback) who had the courage to strip off as well.

And that was that. A one-off show that pretty much sank without trace. I think the main problem was that the contestants were normal people, not celebrity babes and hunks ...

... should have said, the games were studio-based activity games (lots of water and running around), not answering questions or pressing buzzers ....

IIRC, Richard from the first Survivor was nude ALL the time. And he WON. It was part of his strategy to unsettle a particular female opponent and it worked.

I also remember a episode of Fear Factor where the contestants had to go nude onto a runway in front of a large audience. It rather didn't work because none of the contestants were at all afraid of it.

I'm a fan of Survivor.

Usually, in each series there is at least one person shown naked - although pixellation is always used to obscure genitals and breasts.

Richard in S1 wasn't nude all the time, but he was nude a lot of the time. When he had his birthday he decided he wanted to spend the whole day naked. Richard was also gay, and used to call himself the 'fat naked ***'. Apparently, however, some of the younger contestants in that series also had a few nights where they got naked but that wasn't shown.

The nudity the other night was probably presented more matter-of-factly because it was male nudity. They tend to make a bit more of female nudity. On the last season, in the Amazon, there were two 'infamous' scenes that got hyped a lot. One was when three of the younger girls took their tops off and were having a bath together in a creek. The other was when two of the younger girls made a deal with the host (their idea) that if they took their clothes off he would give them some peanut butter and chocolate. They did, and he did. The girls went on to pose for Playboy together. Since the girls involved were reasonably attractive (one was a swimsuit model) it received a lot of publicity and was gossiped about a lot.
