Last year, when I decided to go nude outside, I called two of my neighbors, the ones on each side of my house, and asked them if I would offend anyone if I went nude. They both did not object. So just to give it a try, I did go nude and to my surprise, nobody said a thing. Now the neighbors who live behind me is a different story. I have not made contact with them yet. I'm sure one of them has seen me, but the other ones haven't yet. Maybe I'll go over and talk to them also. So at this time, I have a 50/50 approval from my neighbors.

Yes, it would have been less expensive for us if they were more accepting of nudity. We put up block walls to ensure our privacy...$45 a ft X 350 ft. ... you do the math.

We sometimes forget we don't have clothes on when we do our daily chores and go out into the back. We have been seen nude by the kids on both sides and the woman on one side. Nothing ever said. Like many of us, they were more embarrased then we were.

Not only would it be easier for us if the neighbors were more accepting of nudity but we'd have some more nudist friends to hang out with. Make neighborhood block parties alot more fun. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Life would be so much easier, granted. But how should we go about this? Indeed, if the neighbors are O K with nudity, great! However, if the neighbors aren't O K then it could be opening quite the proverbial "can of worms". This is the dilemma I'm faced with now. I've got a 6.5' privacy fence around my back yard, but all of the houses in my area are off the grade, and several of them are two story and many have small children. I'm in a rural subdivision (in the heart of a big city, no less) so everyone around kind of knows everyone else, so if I say anything then word will definitly spread quickly through the neighborhood. This could be a wonderful step in the right direction for me, or it could make the rest of my time on this block miserable. My wife and daughter don't want to risk it, and even I am still undecided. I've got a 30 year mortgage, so I plan on being here a while. I'd really love to work naked in my back yard, but I really don't need legal harassment right now. Talk about a catch-22. Oh well, maybe I could....no probably not......or maybe.......

Kenny G: I can see your "catch 22", especially with the neighbors who have kids. All you can do is just ask if they would be offended. If they said it's okay, then you are in the clear, but if they said no, well, you get the picture. Luckily, my neighbors do not have small kids. The youngest kid of all my neighbors is 17 years old, and will graduate this year. Good luck, but you do have to take the ititiative and ask, which would be a lot better than getting caught without any notice. I doesn't hurt to ask.

I just go about my business, which is usually doing stuff around the house nude. None of my neighbors have complained. Did this in Baton Rouge and do it here in Charlottesville area.

Neighbor on one side in Baton Rouge used to call when she had a party. Her daughter didn't though. I stepped out onto the back deck of my barn and saw her whole cheerleading troup next door. There was a fence in between, but from my deck I could see them, and they could see me, probably chest area.

I made the mistake once of going to the mailbox at night when my neighbor here was having a party for some kids. A car came in. All I could do was go over to the side of the driveway and turn my back. Some kids in the car yelled, "He's nekkid." Heard them later telling their grandmother (my neighbor) about it. Their voices were quite loud. The current neighbor who bought from her put in her own driveway. Yeah!!!

I live on 40 acres and there is only one neighbor's house in view. It's a couple 100 yards away so they couldn't tell what I was wearing anyway. The lot line is only about 40 feet away and sometimes their kids come pretty near. As I am always nude in my hot tub and sometimes the garden, I guess I should talk to them about it. I have no idea what they would think about it.

What would happen if a neighbor see's you nude, and disapproved.Ex.Your in your back yard (nude) swimming,can they call the cops,& has this happend to anybody?

I guess my neighbors must be cool or not easilly offended, both sides have seen me out back at one time or another, nothing has been said, one side was at there pool and waved I waved back and went back inside, I have mowed the back lawn nude, the back of my house faces a parking lot, I have a 100' by 100' fenced back yard, cyclone fence, I have also sunbathed nude out there, My neighbors are good people, on all sides they have seen me from the front also. I guess I should talk to them about it maybe it would be better for the future.

Not sure what would happen if neighbors saw you swimming in your pool in your backyard in the nude. If they called the cops you would hope that the police would tell them if they disapprove, don't look, and further tell them to keep their eyes on their side of the fence or be charged with being a peeping tom.

I really don't think the cops could do anything, but to file the report, if in fact, the reporting party decides to file a complaint. Being in your own yard and swimming, you are legally in the privacy of your own yard. Providing there was no explicit sex going on (I'm sure there wasn't), then they really don't have much to go by.

By reading the laws that were provided by another member (see legal issues), most states do not have anything against practicing nudity in the privacy of their own yard, except as I noted, there was lewd and wild activities going on. By displaying the genitals in a non-lewd fashion, in the privacy of your own property (yard), then you are in the right to go about your business.

The only problem I can see, is if you live in the country, where there isn't much fencing, and everything is out in the open, then there is the possiblity of your being in the nude, could have it's disadvantages, especially if the neighbors have a clear view, and they do, in fact, disapprove.

But to "keep the peace", the only way to alleviate any problems, would be to advise your neighbors, that you enjoy being nude. Hopefully, you will be able to reach a compromise. If they don't approve, then there could be legal challenges ahead. Good luck

My next door neighbor knows Im a nudist. Heres the story:
Last summer, I started going out on my back deck nekkid. But I only did it because our next door neighbor told my family she was goin on vacation for 2 weeks. (she wanted us to watch her house...shes single). ANyways we agreed...so for those whole 2 weeks, after my parents were at work, I went nekkid in the back because no one else beside my neighbor ewho was on vacation could see me. Well, one evening, I was lying down readin a magazine (nude). When all of a sudden, I hear "Hey did u forget your pants!" I was like "WHoa whoa! who..?" Then I turned around and found out my neighbor was back from her vacation...early,lol. I was like "ahhh!" and scrambled to put my clothes on. But (Heres the surprising part) she said "no honey just stay like you are, im ok with it" . I was like "really". she said "sure, when i was your age about 10 yrs ago i used to skinny-dip all the time and sunbathe nude" So I went by her fence (nude) and started talking to her about nudism. She said shes thought about it before but she was never a nudist...and never wanted to do it as an adult. She said she thinks shed be embarresed (shes doesnt like the fact that shes very busty and chubby...but isnt very chubby..just a tiny bit)And she thinks she looks old ..but shes only 28,lol. I told her it doesnt mater what you look like in the nudist world...but shes like "I just cant do it",lol. So oh well. I wanna get her more into it but what can i do. (although one day about 2 weeks ago, i swear i saw her in her kitchen topless so...) But shes knows im a nudist...she wont tell my folks about it either and she said i can be nude in my yard as long as i want. Shes totaly cool with it.

maybe you should get with some of the young naturists on this site who have not been able to get nude at home AT ALL. it seems as though you have found ways to enjoy nudity at home even with parents who do not agree.

Here's an update, three of my four neighbors know I practice nudism in the back yard, and they are all okay with it. I just checked with the third neighbor, and he stated no problems. The challenge will be with the fourth and final neighbor. She is an elderly person. Wish me luck. So far, I have a 75% approval rating with my neighbors. This weekend has been tremendous, and I haven't worn any clothes, except when going to town, other than that, I have been naked all weekend.

I think you're following a wise course. There's more to life than naturism, and taking the effort to maintain good relationships with your neighbors can add a lot to the quality of life you have at home.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Actually, in Tennessee it is illegal to have your buttocks, genitals, or women's areolas and nipples uncovered where any member of the public could see them from a public area or if anyone can see you from another private location (i.e. their yard). That includes being on your own land. If someone can see you from the street or from any other public or private area, you can be charged with public indecency and will possibly go on the sex offender list.

Make sure to read the statues for your state and, if you have questions, ask a lawyer or the local police how they would handle the situation.
