I was at Playalinda clothing optional/mostly nude beach in Florida last Saturday. About 4 pm, six college aged guys came along the beach. All were wearing board shorts and some of them had t-shirts on. They continued past me and then a bit down the way stopped to go for a swim. I should add that the beach was not too crowded. Two of the guys dropped their board shorts to reveal speedos. Yet then, all six swam in shorts/speedos. I must say that most college guys don't wear speedos so at least wearing a speedo in public is a step forward. But on a nude beach, why wear anything ... I mean they could have stripped easily and not been close to anyone cause the beach wasn't crowded? Whatis wrong with the youth of the USA today?

Hey B.U.N
RT here again putting his penny in again.
I can't answer your question about the youth of the USA but I can a youth (university student) from Down Under.
80% of the Australian population live within an 45 minute drive of the ocean. I grew up in a beach town, We (Australians) learn to swim before we walk and if you live in a beach town you join the local surf club and become a nipper and then a surf life saver (I think you call them Life Gaurds). From nippers up you wear speedo's so you are bought up wearing speedo's.
If you are a surfer you wear boardies, it's the surfy culture I guess. When I go surfing I wear boardies but speedo's under neath by boardies. All my surfy mates do the same. Guess what I'm trying to say is that it's the culture you have grown up with I guess.
RT
Peace to all and

Hey RT thanks for the response.
For me the situation is why bother to go to a nude beach, it was at least a 15 minute plus drive out of there way to wear shorts/speedos when swimming rather than skinny dippping?
Yes, culture plays a part, and that is why speedos are not worn much in USA. I am from Canada and would say I see more of them - probably the impact of European immiagration.

I thought I might chime in with a Yank perspective-
Almost all Americans are brought up wearing longer swim trunks or board shorts. Whether or not that's what they do in Canada, I can only guess. Speedos underneath would be like underwear. I guess those guys probably not used to being naked in public, I suppose it was a big deal for 2 of them just to go into their speedos.
I think Americans, more than others, are less willing to go public places naked- we're very modest on the whole. Canadians, I can't say.
RT maybe you can back me up on this, but I think college students on a whole aren't too open to social nudism. YOu'd think being younger, we'd be more confident in our appearance. I guess not... this may be just a result of the body images we're exposed to through the media.
