Sunday's Comic (http://www.comics.com/comics/forbetter/archive/forbetter-20050814.html)

You know, I think I remember seeing a Dennis The Menace comic do something similar once...

We can certainly learn from the innocence of children. Great cartoon.

Many times the children are clever than adults.

I saw this cartoon Sunday and my first thought was a comment I heard that it was easier to wash nude children than to wash their cloths.

I first saw this cartoon on Sunday and wondered if someone else at the forum saw this as well. I guess that question's been answered.

How cute. The kid has the right idea.

My issue with that strip (pun intended) is the reaction of the mother. Would a normal mother react with such horror to their child naked on a beach?

But then again, she is the daughter of a very conservative mother. (Yes I read the strip regularly).

We had a neighbour whose child (two-ish years old) was outside wearing only his sneakers and playing happily with his toys. He had apparently gotten away from his mother and was playing like that for quite a few minutes before she discovered him. She yanked him inside the house, just about taking his arm off, and hollered at him. A simple "come inside" would have been sufficient. But then again, we had considered calling child protection because of ways she treated him.

It does unfortunately happen in real life. This little guy was just enjoying a nice spring day outside! He of course should have had a bit more supervision, but who cares if he was buck naked? He was after all, wearing his shoes!

I saw that one too and immediately thought of this board! You are right the parents reaction is a bit much, but the child certainly has the right attitude.

Boreas, was the mother angry at her son for being naked or for being outside? A two-year-old child should not be outside, especially in the front yard, by himself.

But she better watch out with how she pulls at his arm. One mother at our day care pulled her two-year-old daughter up by her arm, dislocating her shoulder.

My understanding is that children that age(terrible twos through four years old) are natural nudists. In other words, they instinctly love to be naked. In the summertime, you see that all the time. How many of them do you see running through the sprinklers or in a toddler swimming pool? I clearly think the mother overreacted here. Yet, I also understand a lot of parents do not want their children parading themselves outside naked with the number of possible pedophiles around. But a simple "come inside now!" would have been a very appropriate response and action to take. But then again, you also have to consider that all parents simply do not share the view that children are "children of nature." And especially so if they are very conservative.

I am not sure which made her angry. We had reason to be concerned and this was only one incident we saw. We considered calling child welfare about her.

It was definitely an inappropriate and over the top reaction.

Kids are born with such innocence and then they encounter adults.
