The only time I wear underware (boxers) is @ work. Work told me I had to. We get dressed in our work cloths in the shop and some time the office women come down to the shop. They complained about me being nude. Oh well 5 more years and I'll retire. Then I'll them hehe.

They are much better than do rags, they come in lots of fashionable prints and drape nicely over the back of my neck preventing sunburn.

They can also be worn as shorts when running outside to get the mail, put out the garbage, mow the lawn etc. Or as a nice loose quick pull on when stopped for gas etc. on long trips.

In my country wintertime it is a must to use underwear and with long slacks or you will be free of your balls rest of your life.

But where the temperature allows it, there is no reason to use them. Earlier the washing of clohes needed them but no more. It was easier to cook the the white underwear than wash the other clothes.

ewwwww! Sitting in shorts just doesn't sound sanitary at all. The shorts are like a filth sponge that hold contamination next to your skin and spreads it onto every surface you sit upon.

Everyone should sit on a towel, whether clothed or nude, it's just the right thing to do.

So...........does that statement made by Rabid Clam mean that those of us that prefer to go Commando are less sanitary then those that wear underwear or shorts?

I sure don't want to get into a descriptive debate about how clean or sanitary we are but Clam, don't you think that many of us that do go

Fire Prof. - Sanitory wise, I don't think it makes any difference whether people wear undies or just pants. Both should be washed at reasonable intervals.

At a New Years eve party we had lots of laughs when some of the women there wanted to know whether riding a horse "commando" caused some painful experiances when body parts hit the saddle pommel - http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif ouch. Interesting to note that only one female has replied to this thread. I wonder why?

Anyway, as Sauna pointed out, in chillier climes, underwear is a necessity. That said, if I have an reason/excuse to wear my kilt, then it's always commando. It might surprise you chaps to know that a kilt is a very warm item of clothing & always guarantees a (usually positive) reaction from the ladies. Often the first question is, what's worn under your kilt? The reply is always the same .. nothing, it's all in perfect working order!

For those of you who are commandos, a question. I found that, when wearing dress slacks at work, the lining doesn't cover the zipper on the inside and that metal zipper rubbing on the penis produced significant discomfort. After a couple of week determining that it's the same with all my dress slacks (and one particularly awful day that ended with a raw spot on the head of the penis) I gave up and reverted to underwear. Anybody else have this problem?

Never happens with cotton chinos, though. Don't know why.

I wondered about what you said regarding the zipper on dress slacks so I went upstairs and looked at all of my slacks to see if what you said was certain. I must admit that all my dress slacks have material covering the zipper on the inside. Probably why I've never encountered the problem you had.

Re foux003's question about the term 'commando.' I have to admit that I never heard either term, free-balling or commando, until I had internet access. It has been only in the past three years that I have stopped wearing underwear, but would like to offer one possibility for the origin of 'commando." When I was an infantryman in the jungles of Vietnem, the heat and humdity really did a number on us. Underwear was the first item to go after about 24-36 hours into your first exposure to the jungle. They were the source of severe rashes, etc. Noone wore them after that. I don't recall, but I do believe some where finally made available for the trip home to the US where old habits were re-established. I think the term commando may have its origins in this common Vietnam experience of thousands of infantryman.

Baremore,

Glad you chimed in here with that explaination. I think you are on target with the origin of the word "commando" in reference to going without underwear.

Though I did not spend anytime in the jungles of Vietnam, I did spend time there on board a destroyer right off the coast and worked down in the engine room. I had already been going commando since my sophomore year in HS, when I noticed many of my track and football teammates doing this. While in the Navy and working in the engine room aboard ship, I found that because it was so hot in the engine room and we would sweat continuously, wearing underwear would only cause irritation to many sensitive portions of my crotch. Many of my shipmates experienced this as well and noticed I did not wear underwear ever and did not have these symptoms, thus.....many of them began going commando as well and I doubt that the ships laundry washed many pairs of underwear at all! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

The first time I ever heard of the term commando referring to not wearing underwear, was many years ago on the show FRIENDS.

When asked why he had to wear underwear in his rented tux, Joey, who often stated that he didn't wear underwear, stated, "It's a rented Tux. I'm not goin' Commando in another man's fatigues."

At the end of the show, Rachel said that she was also "going Commando."

Within a couple years, that's the term I heard used most often.

I don't know if the term was used before that, but I believe it was that episode that brought it into the lexicon.

BTW, I haven't worn underwear in decades, though a few years ago I tried some flannel boxers when it got really cold, but I hated it and decided the cold wasn't that bad.

Also, when warmer, I often wear a kilt and always go commando.

I just did a google search with "commando" and "underwear" as the search terms. Quite a few sites came up and the general consenus is the term was introduced to publice usage around 1974 and got its real boost from the aforementioned TV show. Wikipedia acknowleges the probable origin in the Vietnam experience.

whether or not I go commando has more to do with the pants I (have to) wear. When I wear jeans or pants of similar heavy material, I am ALWAYS freeballin'. Some of the lighter weight pants have a tendency to bunch up in my butt crack. That's when I put unders on.

I'm allways "commando" too. In the summer time in my garden i'm only wearing a long shirt - very very pleasant.
The only problem, I've found so far was once at a party, when I was dancing with a beautyful woman. I was wearing very thin and rather loose pants, and she was dancing very close to me. She could suddenly feel, that I was fond of her, but that only made her dance even closer. It was very lovely - but also very embarassing for me. Some other woman might have been mad at me.

my name is kyle, and i've been commando for eleven months. i quit cold-turkey back in november, and haven't regretted it since then.

i grew up wearing tightie-whities, and never even wore a pair of boxer until college. however, i've never really liked either one.

if work in the heat, briefs get unpleasantly sweat-soaked. plus, if they get stretched out, my penis can slip through the leg hole and that is definitely not comfortable. plus, i have a hairy butt, and (ok, this may be a bit graphic for our younger viewers) wiping doesn't always do that great of a job. few feelings are less pleasant than having my underwear stuck to my butthole.

i'm skinny, too, so boxer shorts always ride up until i have about four inches of fabric above my pants. i gave up on them pretty fast.

so, i just decided to try commando and never went back. i used to drive a forklift, too, but it never bothered me. i go commando with slacks all the time, never had any problems. i do manual labor in jeans every day, and i'm comfortable. it just takes a little getting used to, that's all; zipping up takes practice if you're used to your penis being hugged tight to your body.

and, by the way, to whomever made the post about horses: early american cowboys wore tight-fitting pants with no underwear, because that was the most comfortable on a long trip.

STORY:
last christmas, i was only a month into going commando. we were at my wife's family's house, exchanging stocking-stuffers. they have a game where they wrap everyday or weird gifts in a way that throws you off, and you have to guess what's under the wrapping paper. underwear is a classic gift, because you can put it inside a TP tube or whatever. so, after we had opened the presents and added the points, they asked me if i liked boxers or briefs better (i presume so they would know what kind to buy for next year). i didn't want to answer "i don't wear any," for embarrassment's sake. so i said that, if i had to choose, i'd take briefs, but each kind has its downfalls; i explained that i liked the feel of boxers better, but they always ride up above my pants. hopefully, i confused them enough that they won't get me any underwear!

incidentally, i still own underwear. they're in the drawer. i don't know why i don't throw them out. maybe it's just that i have german blood in me, and i am therefore cursed with "rag mentality." don't throw that away, it would make a good rag!

When I realized this on me myself, I changed my drive. If I REALLY believe u/w~lessness is morally clean praxis, I should not shiver to say that to God openly, the chuch ought to be treated the same way than every other place where You go, excpet the white shirt, tie, etc `honourful` attributes.
