Happy 139th Birthday to us! Nude greetings to my naturist buds from across Canada. Have a good long weekend!

PS: Just noticed it's my second anniversary here on CFF. How'd I manage over 500 posts?!

Yesterday we had our annual Canada Day street party which included a demo by our fire department, BBQ and fireworks afterwards. As planned, there was no need to call the fire truck back again.
We jumped the gun on Friday because of a couple of things: the weather forcast for Saturday; and the fact that several families on our street charge up to their cottages for the rest of the long weekend.
All in all, a great time.

It amazes me that the Canadians have like holidays on nearly the same dates. I wonder if when Canada becomes the 51st state will they merge these holidays.
Interesting. Thought provoking.
Well, could be the opposite.
Canada could have 50 more provinces!
Happy July 4 to you, Rabid_Clam

God forbid, God forbid. And I mean that. Nu's reply to you was tongue in cheek, but, really --would the US ever join Canada? Duh. You're in a great country, but so are we, and we're very proud to be independent from the USA.
Here is a mini history as to why we celebrate on July 1 (we became a confederation in 1867):
"On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st."
Until relatively recently, July 1 was called our "Dominion Day", but we now call it "Canada Day" -- more in keeping with our multicultural beginnings.
J'man (and happy Independence Day to you on the 4th)
