The list appeared in our (UK) nation press with a the question "Why did Stonehenge drop off the list" the answer being British apathy, it didn't get enough support from these shores let alone across the world.
Most of my 'must sees' are inspired by my childhood viewing of a well known children's TV programme 'Blue Peter' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/bluepeter/) which saw the presenters going to such places.
Have any US wonders ever been on the list, I can think of Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty right of the top of my head, and I've been to one, the other is on my personal 'must see' list.

Pete,
Wondered why Stonehenge wasn't on the list myself. It was great walking among those stones.
As far as places in the USA ever being on the list - nope. Some should be but they haven't yet.
Chacao Canyon Settlement, Cahokia are just two of the places that should be on the list.
Now this list is for man made 'wonders', natural wonders are another kettle of fish all together. There the good ol'USA stands out Grand canyon, Carlsbad & Mammoth Caverns, Everglades, Rocky Mountains and the world's oldest mountains the Appalachians, Niagara Falls (which we share with Canada), Death Valley, Great Salt Lake ... the list goes on and on and on.
