Hello all. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif Yeah I joined this forum and I'm relatively new to nudism, meaning I've known about it for a long time and enjoy being nude at home and outdoors when I can. Been like this for a couple a years now and now I'm considering trying some new things.
I've been thinking about trying out a resort, club or CO beach. I do want to try out a beach, however I only know of two such places in my region; one being Gunnison in NJ, but that is really too far for me to comfortably get to, the other I have heard of is in Assatague Park in MD, however I'm uncertain what the status is of it.
My other choice is to go visit a resort, which since I'm in VA, obviously leaves me with White Tail Park. I've noticed there a fair number of other members from VA here and some from WTP also. If any of them read my message here, I do have a couple questions about visiting the park; I'd like to visit for a day just to try it out, so do I need to phone ahead and let them know, or can I just show up?, and also I know that camera phones are prohibited understandably, but what do people do with their phones while they are there?
And also if anyone has general opinions on the Park, please let me know.
I do know about Avalon also, but it's a bit out of the way for me, so I think I could only do a stay-over there, but I'd rather wait and get more used to being nude around others before doing that.
I've looked a few club pages of my region. Right now, I'd only like to know some opinions of the clubs in the region.
And if it matters or not, I am a single male, 26. I know some places are not so much into single guys, so any words of wisdom are appreciated. (and anything pertaining to first-timers as well)
So I guess that was a lot for a first post, hope no one fell asleep. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/zzz.gif

Good afternoon Zara; You've come to the right place.

I've been to Avalon and it's wonderful. Everything is up-scale and clean. They allow single males. Prices are about the same as anywhere else.

I haven't been to the other places mentioned. Perhaps you will hear from other members of the forum.

Good luck. Rick and Jerri

Camera phone use is banned in more and more places today including some State, Federal, and Military buildings, or private contractors requiring handling, processing, or storage of classified information, and many public changing areas and bathrooms at swimming pools, gyms, exercise, schools, and athletic facilities where nudity is expected.

At nudist resorts, most have restrictions on the use of camera phones in common and wet areas where nudity is mandatory such as the inside and outdoor pools, spa's, hot tubs, sauna, and conversation pools and the associated decks where people lounge nude. Most have signs on the gates where you enter the above areas warning you of the restriction. On the general grounds regulations usually state that use of camera phones to take still pictures or video is prohibited as they are too easily concealed or used covertly. Another reason all cell phone use in the wet areas is restricted is that most using cell phones talk or converse louder than normal and that disturbs the many people in these areas. The same general restriction holds true of the use of loudspeaker radios, MP3 Players, and small Televisions, and DVD Players, and Automobile entertainment systems. Use of these audio devices with headsets is allowed.

Most resorts allow you to keep and use cell phones on your person, in a ditty bag, back pack, or in your room or RV/Camping area with the exception of the wet or areas or decks where many are. General use on the grounds is ok with the exception [as above] of the use of the video or still functions of camera phones is prohibited anywhere on the grounds or facilities. All resorts that I know of Prohibit carrying, displaying, or use of any motion, or video equipment such as camcorders by members, guests, and visitors. Recording binoculars are also prohibited.

Zara;

I understand that the YMCA of Ohio also prohibits bringing of the cell phones into locker rooms. There was an incident with some hidden cameras taking pictures of people without their permission.

Unless the YMCA of Ohio collects the cell phone at the desk upon check in, and tags them for pickup it's pretty hard to control. Most carry cell phones all the time and have them in possession or with their clothes inside a locker.

More accurate definition would be YMCA of Ohio prohibits USE OF all cell phones in the changing, locker, or bathroom areas of the facility where nudity is expected. The reason for all cell phones, are many are too difficult to tell the difference in a standard non-camera phone and ones which include video or still capabilities as the pin hole lens or opening is hard to tell from decoration or trim.

Cell phones are the latest and most inexpensive craze in covert photograpny yet there are a good number of other image capturing devices readily available from the internet. They can also record voice and other off normal frequency light and sound effects. The days of only 007 having these things are gone, anyone can have them now.

Our YMCA even prohibits cell phones in the exercise room. I suppose some obese persons, and others, are afraid of being photographed huffing and puffing on the exercise machines in their baggey exercise clothing.

Well okay, I understand all that. I wasn't meaning on having on me while at a resort, but I was wondering if it was okay to keep it out of sight for the duration while at a resort(like I was thinking of having it off and leaving in the car). I just wondered if merely bringing something like that in was grounds for confisaction even if it's off and put away. I hope that made sense.

It would be appropriate to discuss cell phones with the resort. That way you will get the straight story and rules and also explain what it is you need that phone for.

Well I have emailed them with this question and a few others several days ago. Still waiting on a response.
Maybe I'm just being too nervous and this just isn't an issue worry about.

I find some nudist resorts are terrible in returning fax, phone calls, and especially email requests for information and/or reservations.

I know one person who sent via email a whole season of reservations for luxury rooms and park models totaling several thousand dollars and never received a reply or confirmation. When queried about it in person the next visit, no one knew anything about his reservations request, and said they never got it. This person had to copy their reservations request, print it out and hand carry it the next visit at the resort to get this straighten out. This is a large resort with most of the accommodations booked out in advanced for large events during the season, a few which draw 1,500 - 2,000 visitors, members, and guests over weekends such as Labor Day, and large annual music festivals and shows.

Most nudist offices are understaffed and some office workers have other duties. Unless it's a weekend, or during an event weekend I wouldn't think they have a lot to do. Sometimes the resort manager answers requests, but have many non office duties around the resort during good nude weather and do not stay in the office.

Hey Zara,
I have been to WTP only once, but when I was there I showed the young lady in the office my phone and it is not a camera phone and it was not an issue for me to have it . However the best thing to do is just leave it in your car if you think it might cause a problem. AS far as emails go with any questions, I would just call the office.<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by Zara:

Well I just spent the afternoon at White Tail. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

It was easy to get in, I didn't have any problems.(Yeah I just kept my phone in the car and didn't bother with it)
It didn't take long at all for me get nude and acclimated. I think I even surprised myself a bit at how calmly I went about things considering it's the first time I've been nude around other people.

So really all I did was take some walks around the resort, lounged near the pool, went in the pool a couple times, dried off in the sun a bit, read a little bit, snacked and tried talking to a couple people there.
Really not much going on there... I couldn't reach the game room or library since they were waxing the hallway right near those rooms. Maybe I'll check those out next time.
Not many people around either... maybe I saw about... 12 people or so in total... but it was okay, I just wanted to go and see if I could do it. Having fewer people around probably made it easier on me to get used to things.
I was kind of disappointed to find out they no longer have their walking trail in the woods.

My drive over there was rather long and boring... two and half hours there and back. Five hours on the road and I only spent about four at the resort.

I think it was a neat experience overall. I'll have to try and go back when they some events and see what it's like when it's more lively.

When I go to the gym the cell phone stays in the locker until I leave. At the resort I run at once a year, it stays in the car. Those are two times I "escape" from the cell phone and find it refreshing.

I cleared the trail last year. One end is behind the last residence, and it comes out where the field and road meet, up above the outdoor pool. We haven't been in much because the wife has cancer, is undergoing cheno and can't enjoy all it has to offer at this time. We still have out lot and membership paid through 2008, We'll be around some. If not for the cancer, I wes going tp clear a trail along the north boundary along the creek.
If I'd seen this post earlier, I'd have gotten you a free day visit. Things will pick up in April. Seems a lot of naturists like 80degrees+. Me I like 70-. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Thanks for the offer. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif
I think I remember the area you're talking about... It did look like there was a trailhead there, but since the guy at check-in said the trail was done away with I figured it wouldn't be wise for me to wander off into the woods. But if that was it, I'll have to take a closer look at it next time.

I'm not sure when I'll try to come back yet. I've looked at the event schedule and most everything is on fridays and saturdays; days which I am working. I want to see if a manage a saturday off and go back sometime in April.
Maybe I'll get to see you there sometime and hope your wife gets better.

Those that don't definitely do not get our patronage. Three places I can name off the top of my head that were friendly and responsive to my e-mails requests for more information and for a brochure via snail mail were: Avalon, Avatan, and Bluebonnet. (We visited Avalon in September 2006 and had a most wonderful time. We plan on visiting Bluebonnet in July or August of this year. We will visit Avatan in the near-future as well.)
