  • Naked male/female photos on the 'net

From personal observation, it appears to me that men seem to be generally happier with appearing naked on "nudist/naturist" web sites, whereas, the majority of naked female photos, by contrast, appear to be connected with "sex/porn" sites. (Quickly, before I'm shot down in fiery flames)... Naturally there are both naked male/female photos on naturist sites, and sex sites too, but there still appears to me to be a basic leaning here which perhaps demonstrates a deeper discrimination, perhaps a more genetically based difference, between the sexes than the politically correct would like to admit. What do you think?

I don't see where "discrimination" comes into play.

Men may be more comfortable stripping in some instances. (It's a "guy thing.") (???)

But, generally speaking, I think most women's modesty stems from body image issues (foisted on us by society and culture) and fear of being looked at as a sex object.

Most male modesty, on the other hand, stems from fear of "not measuring up." This has been stated as the reason for less male nudity in main stream movies.

Then, as the newbie nudist knows, there are fears of erections.

These are just generalizations. There are exceptions to every rule.

I think it is less of a body issue thing and tied more directly to sex. After all, the primary reason the genders are different are for having babies. Our society has evolved to have both parents raise the offspring. But this is not guaranteed.

Having babies from the man's and woman's perspectives reminds me of the fable of the pig and chicken creating a bacon and egg breakfast. The chicken only has to make a contribution (laying the eggs) whereas the pig must be totally committed to the project (he must be slaughtered to make the bacon).

For children, men's contribution may last 30 minutes (or 5 minutes!) whereas the woman's contribution is 9 months plus 18 years if not a lifetime commitment. Now if showing your picture gets the opposite sex aroused, you can see how a woman may not want the 18+ year commitment that could be the consequence of said arrousal.

Men usually post pictures of themselves. I would suspect that women's pictures, on the porn sites, are usually posted by men, which would indicate men's motives.

On this site, it seems that men and women post their own pictures. The women seem to be natural, but I have noticed that some of men only post photos of themselves showing their genitals in an "excited" state. To me, they are either showing off or soliciting. Either way, it makes me suspect of their motives.

Nudist sites tend to be male dominated. Those who are brave enough to want to post their pictures will do so. Women are seen less as they are less represented on nudist sites and will sometimes get more unwanted attention if they are connected with a naked picture of themselves.

By the same token, men are the ones who are more interested in soft-core porn sites or the grossly misnamed nudist photo sites. Those sites cater to men so they have naked women for the most part.

I don't know if there's a biological basis for it or if it's more of a cultural thing, but my experience has led me to conclude that, in general, men respond more to visual erotic stimuli than women do. Thus why pictures of naked women are more popular than pictures of naked men (though there's an audience for that, too, it's not as large), particularly on sex sites.

Perhaps for that reason, perhaps for others, women seem to be more protective of their naked body (and its image), than men, who seem, in general, more eager to undress and revel in their nakedness (since the male body is less of a commodity than the female body, there's less pressure). Thus, nudist sites will not uncommonly have a prevalence of pictures of naked males (unless it's a "fake" nudist site, or if it's carefully selective of what photos go up).

Which, is really not much different than what's already been said.

You have a point, and a sad one. I guess it's a bit of the other old story, obviously removed. If you put is about as a guy you are a stud/ hero, but for a woman you appear easy.
Stereotypes are still rather hardbitten into our ethos.

I can see a contradiction here, if women are more protective of their naked body and its image, then why are there so many "porn" sites that feature women. I have brought up the subject before of how women seem to be comfortable posing nude, and even being nude within that setting, but outside of the photo shoot they tend not to be. Another thought that just occured to me, actresses that are willing to go nude for a movie but refuse to pose for nude pictures or even be nude outside of that setting. I wonder if it has to do with control of their "image"? If it is for sale, okay, if not then they are not willing.

I think it could also, unfortunately, be a safety issue. By that I mean the fear that having a naked pictue out there could be interpreted by perverted males as an open invitation to lear at them, etc. I think this is the same reason you rarely see a woman go to a nude beach by herself while mean do very frequently, although in the beach example the issue of physical safety comes into play too since most nude beaches involve a bit of a trek from the car.

Also, as others have pointed out, there is society's double standards about nudity and sex--like it or not, most people equate the two-- where nude women are too often considered cheap or easy where no such stigma is generally attached to men.

Supply and demand. Men want to see women naked. To a much larger extent than women (or even men) want to see men naked. There's money in it. Not all women are uptight about nudity and sexuality. Some women take that path not primarily because they want to but because it seems like the best or only opportunity for them.

You say there are a lot of women who don't mind posing nude in the "right" situations (for art, movies, magazines, etc.), but I get the feeling there are a lot more women who wouldn't do that. But there are also issues, as has been brought up, about controlling one's image, and some opportunities being "safer" than others. Having a nude scene in a major movie seems like less of a thing to be offended by than posing for Playboy, and posing for Playboy is still more acceptable than starring in a low-budget porn flick. Having naked pictures on the internet is kind of neutral - but therein lies the danger; you have no control at all over what (and who!) people are doing with them...
