    Re: Locker Room ... WOW!!

Kids today are mixed up. They will show a lot a skin but don't want to be naked. They are very sexual (kissing each other, tonguing, feeling breasts) but cannot show their bodies.

If you watch a lot of the movies today, including horror and teen comedies, there is not even scenes of nudity in them as their predecessors in the 80's had plenty. This is just an observation on my part and this is not the sole reason that I watch movies. I grew up in the 80's as both a high school and college student(I am 46 currently) and as I said, it was not uncommon for both horror "slasher" films and the typical teen comedies to have either skinny dipping or shower scenes in them and it was full nudity. Well, these have changed. And as was mentioned, a lot of it has to do with how and what they were taught and told growing up as children and teens. So I can see why a lot of people are concerned about the future of the nudist/naturist lifestyle and that once the aging and elder nudists die off, it will eventually become an endangered lifestyle. I hope I am not overreacting on this.
I agree that young people are not generally into nudity these days. I have just returned from my gym and the locker room was full on young men aged 18 to around 24 - and me. There was no nudity. Clearly, they were getting dressed after a workout and intending to shower when they got home.

In the 60s, 70s and 80s, nudity was generally unnecessary and irrelevant. Those who were naked tended yo be young and have perfect bodies - it was used largely to titilate and thus attract audiences. Fortunately, that effect has diminished over the years and film-makers are taking a more grown-up approach. That is a good thing, surely? Trying to attract viewers through nudity - viewers who would never consider getting naked in front of strangers - is encouraging voyeurism, and that's not a good thing for nudism.

I don't see why anyone should be "concerned about the future of the nudist/naturist lifestyle" or that "once the aging and elder nudists die off, it will eventually become an endangered lifestyle". Nudists aren't a rare species that must be protected: nudism is simply a lifestyle choice - your own lifestyle is not threatened and you are free to continue enjoying nudism until you expire. The young have a choice, and if they choose not to adopt that lifestyle, so what?

Perhaps the issue has more to due with the rampant hypocrisy in our societies. We officially claim to be righteous people because it is the politically correct stance and yet so many of us pay enormous amounts of money for pornography and prostitution.

GOOD NEWS!! I think I've found something good in all of this; fewer people using the hot water and soap may reduce the gym costs for the rest of us.

Hypocrisy is the operative term here. But I'm afraid it goes beyond the bounds of today's younger generations.

While a very close friend of mine tends to open a discussion or even abruptly change the subject of discussion to something that has to do with the natural form and function of the human body and readilly co-relate the suject with sex, she will quickly flip the script whenever whoever she engages this conversation with, tell them that the whole topic of discussion is disgusting and then shut the conversation down in disgust. Remember, folks, she brought it up to begin with. So I recently confronted her about that and made suggestion that if the topic of discussion upsets her perhaps she should just leave it alone and not mess with it. It's playing with fire and honestly if she can't handle it she oughtta just leave it alone and stop testing the subject.

And this person I speak of is 73 years old so by now she oughtta know better and have more common sense.

One thing that doesn't sit well with me is hypocricy.

I go the the downtown YMCA and nudity doesn't seem to be an issue. Young or old nobody seems to care much who's going around nude. That's the way it should be. I'm worried about what I'm doin' not who else is naked in the lockerroom.

I graduated high school 50 years ago and after PE (phys ed) class, we all showered. The shower room had quite a number of shower heads so there was little or no wait. The only danger as was mentioned earlier was to not be on the wrong end of a towel snap

This makes no sense to me at all.
Wow, grown men?? We wouldn't even do that in the locker room when i was a freshman in high school.

When I was in the Marines there was no privacy in the shower not even stalls without doors much less with. We removed our uniforms outside the showers in one large room, picked up your soap & washed. When you were finished you walked back to the bench where you left your clothes, dried off & dressed. You knew some of the troops but for the most part you didn't even know most by name. If that doesn't get you over your modesty nothing will.

For some reason, last week, The Doctors did a segment on locker room nudity. Three of the doctors seemed uncomfortable with the concept, while one was ok with it. They revealed a survey showing 80% of those surveyed actively avoid being nude in a gym locker room. Worse, 50% of those surveyed ALWAYS are upset when they see nudity in the gym locker room, while 30% are SOMETIMES upset. Only 20% of those surveyed were NEVER upset by seeing nudity in the gym locker room. If this survey is a true indication of reality, I can only hope the majority remain tolerant of the practices of the minority.

I remember when I was growing up (Im in my mid fifties) being naked in a locker room was not only not an issue, but it was something you were supposed to do. you changed, walked naked to the showers, some times chain showers some times with dividers, then walk again naked to the locker, and in between you could be chatting with a friend, or with a friend of your fathers. This was an all-men indoor sports club and the members were all professionals, businessmen, etc. I was a cadet (meaning a child son of a member). Every month we had to undergo a medical check up. The Dr. Office was in the locker room, so it was not unusual for men to be standing in line naked, waiting to see the Doctor. There was a season when the original doctor was off, and a female doctor subbed for him. Same thing exactly, some men, and most of us children, would stand in line naked. This was not a nudist club, nudity was restricted to locker rooms and showers. Some men walked naked to the pool area, but had to wear a sort of slip to enter the pool.

When I was in high school, showering was mandatory. But about 1/2 showered in swim shorts. When I played baseball in the 10th and 12th grade, we all showered after practice/games.. without any clothes on. Today, when I go to the gym, I most of the people I see in the shower are naked. Ever now and then you see one with shorts on. But, I sort of see more modesty among the older ones (40+). Most of those in their 20s are naked. I have even seen someone that appears 16ish showering naked among the older ones.
