  • Nudist beauty pageants

I was reading that beauty pageant were, at least at one time, a common accurrence at nudist resorts. I just really wonder about that. Doesn't that go against some of the basic principles of nudism? A group of women (or even young girls) standing on a stage, and being evaluated and judged according to their measurements? Maybe I'm missing something here. Does anyone here know anything about that?

I believe there is a nudist resort in Indiana that has a beauty pageant every year. I remember reading something like that some time ago.

As far as the exploitation of nudity, my personal opinion, I don't think they are trying to achieve that. It is something that is done just for pure enjoyment and the ability for other nudists to compete for 'prizes'.

I can understand the reasoning of your concerns, but I really don't think they are dwelling too much on the principles of nudism.

I was at a resort in Indiana one summer and they where preparing for a pageant. A person I talked to said that it is held once a year to raise money so they can stay open the rest of the year. He said they just didn't get enough money from their regular income to remain open. So they held a beauty pageant as a fund raiser. The contestants where not members and he said most of them where strippers and such. They sold tickets and the general public was invited. Picture taking on that day only was allowed. He told me that all members stayed away on that weekend, because it was something no one liked, but they had to do to remain open.

That may explain something I saw in an "old" Playboy! I believe it was a early eighties or late 70's, but anyhow, there was this photo of a rather good looking woman being crowned Miss Nude USA! SHE HAD MAJOR TAN LINES!
In the background, one can see actual nudists types i.e middle aged all over tan men, so you can tell it was at a resort of some such, but the girl was so white where a bikini would normally cover that I found it hard to believe she was a nudist!
What you just said explains it all now!

Would anyone here agree to allowing this kind of contest at your resort just to raise money?

There is the vulgar Nudes-A-Poppin show/pagent at Ponderosa Sun Club in Roselawn Indiana. This resort bills itself as a family nudist resort, but anyone who is under-age is not allowed at the resort on the day of the show. Yes, they give as their reason for presenting the show, as a necessary money raiser to support the nudist resort. The show is open to voyeurs with a camera and the money for admittance. The master of ceremonies was Ron Jeremy, whom I have learned from his biography on TV, is the leading porn star of our time. The girls in the event, as I understand it, are mostly stripper types and not nudists.

Needless to say, this resort is not on the approved list of the AANR, that is, American Association for Nude Recreation.

i think a resort in Michigan has a nude beauty pagent too.North haven Resort,,they have mens and womens pagents, and from the pictures i have seen from there ,it appears it is members of the resort. Not adult entertainers like at Ponderosa Sun Club in indiana!

                Sledge,
Yes, I suspect that a handful of nudist resorts have pagents where kings and queens are crowned from amoung the regular members, as I have seen copies of snapshots on resort websites of the crowned king and queen with broad smiles, wearing a sash, and with possibly a bouquet in hand.

There are qualities of character and personality that can be affirmed and rewarded by these naturist pagent crownings.

I'm sure this doesn't apply to all the pageants held at nudist resorts, but I seem to recall reading an article that mentioned pageants back in the day being for held for the judging of "most perfect" suntans, etc and not body perfection, beauty, etc.

I agree that holding a beauty pageant does seem kind of a silly thing to do - and doesn't really jibe with nudist principles. A pageant to judge suntans seems OK to me tho - seems more like harmless lighthearted fun than anything else.

The Ponderosa Sun club is a very family oriented club I have attended many times. Yes, they have a "once-a-year" show to defray costs to the members. It's true that most members leave for the day of the show or help out with parking cars, stage sets, sound equipment, ect. They also have a car show at the same time. Pictures are allowed on the show day and the crowd is ususally in the thousands. It's a bit raunchy but the crowd is usually well behaved and some even get into the spirit by disrobing themselves.
I hope no one in the forum gets the wrong impression about the club. The grounds are always clean and the staff is excellent. Nuff said. Rick

I never visited an AANR club till I was about 6 and having grown up in TNS, wasn't even aware of resorts and clubs till that time and of course, later. Since then, I have of course seen videos and seen reports of the pagents. I have no issues with them. They are -- what they are at Ponderosa. It's a fund raiser as someone said.
In old classic photos, they were the norm though. Even kids. In Europe, they still have them I believe with both genders and all ages. In those movies and photos, I think given the European acceptance, the spirit of Naturism and FKK isn't compromised. Everyone looks both happy -- and naturist.

                        In my opinion

The fact that they have Ron Jeremy (a porn star) does more damage than having the contest.

On that note I could not agree more. Yuch.

The fact that the contestants are strippers and other adult entertainment stars should be enough to damage the contest.

In all honesty, I have met and read about Ron Jeremy and he is a VERY VERY VERY nice and sweet guy. He is often looked down upon b/c of his choice of career but he is such a nice person.

That may be true, I am sure he may be a nice person. Yet I have no respect for the path he chose.
