I'd never heard of the film "Educating Julie". I loved it! Obviously cheesy, but still I think a very honest look at nudism! I think I'll buy it as well, may let the parents watch it and see what they think.

I sent the link to "Educating Julie" to my naturist curious daughter and her reluctant husband. About 2 weeks later I got a phone call asking me where a good naturist resort in Calf would be. I suggested a couple of places but on their own the chose Desert Sun and spent about 5 days there. Pretty good response for just sending a link. I also showed it to my semi reluctant wife and she enjoyed it too.

          FWIW
          cheers

I've always liked "Educating Julie". I have it on VHS if that tells you anything.

This thread hasn't gotten much attention in a while. There are some very good videos on here for anyone considering trying naturism. I also see people asking about the Educating Julie video from time to time. It is in post #12.

"Educating Julie" - while heavily dated - you'll see an analog TV, a dial telephone, a typewriter, and Ford Orions and Escorts, presents a *generally* good message.

I took exception to a few things. In the movie - Julie visits a nudist park and lies about her past nudist experience, before coming clean with the members. Not cool.

Julie's boyfriend does a "John Smith motel registration" - lying about his name. That's something that doesn't happen today in any *responsible* nudist club - you will be asked for a photo ID upon registering at a park for the first time. This is to prevent "John and Mary Smith" no-tell motel style registrants, and also done to screen out miscreants, as cursory as it might be.

There is also a scene - where Julie's boyfriend - a reluctant partner - is taunted into disrobing by the members of the Liverpool Sun Club. Very dangerous scene to show to a reluctant wife or girlfriend ("If that's what happens, I'M NOT GOING.").

It's characterized by a good depiction of real nudist facilities - what goes on at nudist parks and resorts. It was shot at Liverpool Sun Club, South Hants Naturist Park, Cap d'Agde in France, and finally ends up at Paradise Lakes in Florida. PL was the "gem" club that AANR bigshots used for marketing for many years.

The 2011 comedy "Act Naturally" is up to date and presents nudism fairly accurately (tremendously so for Hollywood). It is a good movie, at least on the level of a Lifetime movie if not Oscar quality. While there is a sexual subplot it is not explicit or 'dirty', you'll see worse on network TV. You can purchase or rent it directly from the film-makers: Act Naturally - the Movie

I also like to recommend the graphic novel (comic book) The Koala Bares - by Stephen Crowley

While "Act Naturally" is the "better movie" in terms of directorial effort and production, I think "Educating Julie" is the "better movie" in terms of location and casting (real nudists). IMHO.

No to mention the fact that the actual nudity in "Educating Julie" is unedited. Giving it an extra touch of authenticity. Again IMHO.

Which is not to say that one movie is better than the other. Two different movies, two different eras.

There was another thread about movies with nudity but I'm not finding it right now. I wanted to bring up "The Sessions". Technically it doesn't fit because it's not about naturism and the nudity is sexual in nature. At the same time is it the least sexy, sex scenes I've every seen in my life, it could not have been less salacious or erotic. I think the demeanor is closer to naturist even if it's not in fact. Anyway it's worth seeing.

Solair Recreation League used to offer a DVD of their park - what happens when you check in, go to the park, etc.

I don't know if they still offer it. Yes, you have to pay for it. I think I bought mine at the Eastern Naturist Gathering sometime around 2008. You might contact them, but remember it was used for membership purposes. They might not have it anymore.

And no, it is not free online.
