    Nudism and Intolerance!

Why are nudists so intolerant? As a group nudists profess to be tolerant but then exercise severe judgement when anyone suggests anything not in the main stream. Take the attitude to shaving, or to being naked in public, or letting clothes and nudity mingle, or body piercing, etc. etc. It's so very similar to religious fervour, where one group is a little different and is then summarily judged, sentenced and ostracised, in one fell swoop. I don't get it.

This is just part of the human condition. IMHO every group in society is the same to some extent.

I didn't think that attitudes on these subjects were particularly polarised. If you look at all the threads here on shaving, piercing, etc, you'll find a good mix of views.

I have read through most of the threads regarding: shaving, cut vs uncut, body piercing, erections, and the list goes on. While I have noted differing individual opinions, there did seem to be a general consenses that such things are an individual choice and are generally accepted by the nudist community more readily than what is the norm for the textile community.

We are all INDIVIDUALS, living WITHIN A COMMUNITY. We should ALL try to be a bit more tolerant towards others, while we also try to be LESS impossing on other peoples beliefs. For example-

    1. A textile goes to a posted/known nudist beach and is offended by all of the body parts hanging out or that adults AND children are nude in mixed company. And complains to authorities. - THAT IS WRONG

    2. A group of nudist/naturists go to a public function or resturant in the nude where clothing is required/expected and get upset when they are asked to leave or get dressed - They are WRONG.

IT BOILS DOWN TO TOLERANCE AND RESPECT OF OTHER PERSONS!

I have not seen much intolerance to shaving. The ones who are intolerant to being naked in public are the textiles, not the nudists. We are trying to have the privilege to do as the textiles do, wear what we want to in public. I also haven't seen much intolerance to the nude and clothed mingle. The biggest issue is the nudity mandatory vs. clothing optional resorts, but that is an ideological argument, not intolerance.

Body piercing and tats can be a bit more of an issue, but not as far as intolerant. I don't understand where you are getting these feelings of intolerance, rich.

    For instance:

    http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/ran.../message/24101

and on Cats not even being allowed to post a message requesting photos for a project to bring smooth and *active* nudists into book form. Naturally (!) we are all entitled to our own point of view, and this is good so, but I'm not talking about the difference of opinion here, I really started the thread to point out the level of vehemence which any form of difference appears to engender. It seems to me that this is unnecessary, and that we'd all be better off working on what we have in common, rather than what we can find to discriminate against. All the more so, when it comes to project work, like Tunick, like my own http://www.naktiv.net/photorequest.html, etc. etc., which might bring the (naked) message to a greater (textile) public.

    Only IMHO, of course :-)
