Hey, you're easily fooled NakedGary!
It is of course a Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster. Introduced in 1936, only 26 of these cars were built, each customised to meet their owner's demands. Recently, a 1936 model originally owned by the aristocratic von Krieger family set a world record for the most expensive Mercedes-Benz ever sold at auction. It fetched $11.8 million at the Pebble Beach auction. I think the car in Gloria's photograph is a 1938 model owned by Karl Keller from Rancho Santa Fe, CA.

I knew it wasn't a Rambler, thought it had to be some exclusive European car. This has to be one of my favorite parts of the forum! Thanks to all who sent photos in and let's keep 'em coming!
OK, here's another one. A vintage photo of a brand-new car. Isn't it gorgeous?

If my suspicion is correct, it is indeed French - made in Paris. It looks like the 1907 Panhard-Levassor Model U2 - which was a 7 passenger 'transformer' car that could be configured as an enclosed town car, or a fully open touring car (pictured above with 'convertible' canopy). By the way, that is not a 'gaping hole' in the hood, it's the reflection of the canopy. Here are some other photos of the Model U2. Notice that they have lights. Apparently night-time operation was an option back then. The other major difference is the lack of louvers on the side of the engine compartment and the footlocker on the running board - those may all be due to choices made by restorers.

Nothing's wrong with Naked Ambition! --> T-shirts for nudists
Well done, Mark. It is indeed a Panhard & Levassor, here's the original pic. I don't know which year the car is precisely.

And here's another pic of those two ladies a few moments earlier...
The car? I'd guess a Citroen sedan from around 1930. Maybe a C6?
