    Nudity and your doctor.

Let’s see how I can put this without it being too confusing. Are you completely naked when you visit your doctor? Is this how your doctor prefers to examine you or is this how you told him or her this is the way you would rather be examined? If you told him or her this is the way you’d rather be examined what was their reaction and how did you put it that this is the way that you’d rather be examined? The reason I’m asking is when I go for my check up and before I’m led to the examining room I’m weighed fully clothed-which is confusing to me because I cannot see how accurate this can be. One time-which I’ve mentioned here before-when the doctor was through examining me he told me I could get dressed so when I removed the examining gown, which left me with nothing on but my socks, he left rather quickly. A bit too quickly I thought. Anyway, thanks for responding.

I have found myself being more comfortable in my shorts that fumbling with the stupid gown, but have had the gown put back on me with help from the doctor or nurse. I'd certainly be most comfortable nude without the gown.

My first time, a fair number of years ago, the nurse gave me both a gown and a blanket. I used the gown the first year but didn't the next. Now, they just give me a blanket. I only keep it in my lap or to cover with if it's too cold. Usually isn't. Doc can tell from my tan that I'm a nudist.

I have gotten different reactions from different caregivers. They really are just trying to be mindful of your modesty. Don't worry so much about their reactions. They are medical professionals and have seen their share of naked skin (& genitals). I try to be respectful of them and not make a big deal out of what I am (not) wearing.

During a dreaded colonoscopy a year ago, the nurse had to do an IV and was behind schedule with the patients. I was still dressed and she had to do my questionnaire and I had to get into my gown. I chuckled that she was a nurse, and I was not the first and last naked patient she'd see, so ask the questions because I did not want to lose my spot in the rotation. She proceeded with the questions, I swapped into the gown, and she did the IV. After the procedure and groggy from the Verced and Fentinal (sp), I joked and apologized for making her uneasy being undressed behind the curtain with me. I explained that I was a nudist and she was a nurse so it should have not mattered.

Years before that I was being checked in by a nurse that I knew for an exam and while we were going through the normal check in I swapped while answering her questions and she was taken by my openness. I reminded her that she was a nurse and didnt think it mattered. She ended up going too far with comments later in the lobby area in front of a supervisor who alerted me to not do that again because of legal matters with mixed gendered nurse & patient situation. The supervisor also stated that the nurse had no business talking about my being undressed the way that she had to the nurses.

I never had that type of problems. First of all, my urologist is a female. Not because I chose her, or not, but because I went to a urological center at a Hospital, was screened, and, according to my symptoms, I was told that Dr. so and so was going to be my Doctor. I've been naked, or almost naked, in front of her several times (there is no other way with an urologyst anyway), and I even had a procedure done where catheters had to be introduced through my uetrha, and both the Doctor and the technician were females. For the procedure, I was told to use a gown, but was nearly 100% out most of the time.

Clevenaturist, I think doctors and nurses are exposed to nudity because they have to be. That does not make them comfortable with it. And it certainly does not mean they expect - or will readily accept - a nudist stripping down in front of them and letting it all hang out. And they have concerns about the proper standard of care of a nude patient and possible legal ramifications. They may also see our nudity as exhibitionism even though that is not intended at all.

    Just my $.02.

When I have my yearly physical the nurse does the weight, ekg, and the basic questions. Before she leaves she gives me a gown and tells me to undress, put the gown on and the doctor will be right in. Once the doctor comes in I ask him if it's OK for me to take this silly gown off. He always says "sure and thanks for asking". One time I asked him if he minded me being nude, he told me that it made his job a lot easier.

I have never been nude in the presence of a doctor or nurse or other health professional since childhood. I haven't needed to be. The only time it was an issue was about three or four years ago when they wanted to do a cystoscopy to check for bladder cancer or other problems, which I declined.

I think it's not generally expected in Europe, especially the UK, to be totally naked in the presence of medical staff. They generally just want to to expose the bit they are interested in and then for a brief a time as possible in order to do what they need to do.

I have been to the doctors many times and when the nurse asked me to undress down to my underwear, I told them I didn't have any on. To that, they handed me a gown, or towel to cover up with. I'm sure I am not the only male who doesn't wear underwear, so I'm sure they run into that response, and remedy a lot.
