    Privacy While Changing

I am a member of a gym here and I was finishing getting changed in the locker rooms, as usual, when there was a knock on the door and a girl of about 17 or 18 marched straight in. I was the only man in there at the time. She was a member of a ballet club which uses the facilities and was looking for a male member and she asked me, in Swedish, if I had seen him. I said I hadn't and I told her off in quite strong terms about barging in like that. She protested that she had knocked, but I pointed out that a knock does not mean that users know that a female is the person knocking, and that those of us getting changed would not have had any time to cover our modesty. I also pointed out that, had the situation been reversed and I had barged into the female locker room in that fashion, I have no doubt that some female users would have been less than happy. She tried to defend herself with something about the fact that, in ballet theatres etc, there is usually communal changing for both sexes (that was news to me!!) and nobody is bothered. I pointed out that this was a gym, not a ballet threatre, and if dancers wanted to continue to use the facilities, they should respect the general rules which apply to gyms.

While I appreciate that nudists would perhaps be less bothered than I was, but I am sure most would agree with me that she was in the wrong. The experience did leave me a bit shaken; I have never thought twice about getting changed in this locker room before because it was a strictly males-only environment, and now I am tempted to get changed under a towel, as I would on a public beach, which is crazy. I won't do that, of course, but I will certainly be making a complaint if this happens again.

    Time to grow up, Stu.

She's from a different society that our silly one.

Dressing rooms and toilets ought to be unisex, to save money on facilities needed. Women often line up for a stall. I've told them many times at such lineups that the men's room is open. It's not against the law.

You are entitled to your view on that, but I disagree - and I reckon the majority of the population would disagree, also. Besides, this wasn't a unisex changing toom - it was a men's changing room.

I have never seen this anywhere in Europe, Ralph. If any woman came into toilets I was using, she would be told in no uncertain terms to get out - just as a man would in a ladies' toilet.

I suspect the young woman was trying to get a quickie look at any man in the locker room, the ballet excuse is fabricated, there is a medical condition requiring counseling, some even participate in social activities to increase there opportunities to do this .its a thrill for them an a type of sexual excitement.her quick defense shows she is a veteran at this,it would have been best to notify the management right away an put a stop to her game ,in the long run it will become obvious to her associates she has a problem.

While I can believe that ballet dancer may have to make a very quick change together in the wings of a stage between ongoing scenes of the ballet, I don't believe that this give her an excuse for her rudeness at your gym. If in a nudist park or other nudist venue this is acceptable, if allowed.

I have also seen on TV that a ballet company (in Europe ?) where the men and women had the same dressing room.

Is all of that meant seriously or just in mockery of Stu?

I think she merely failed to make a distinction between the perhaps more open ballet environment, and the "outside" world. It was all very innocent IMO; she just wasn't thinking.

Personally, and maybe that's just me; I would have also been startled. Not angry; just startled.

Aha! That would explain a lot! I guess I would have just assumed that ballet dancers would be just like sportsmen, swimmers or athletes and they would have male and female changing.

I think what you say is probably a fair assessment - she had a "ballet head" on and didn't appreciate that she wasn't in a ballet environment, and that men guys at a gym working out with weights are not quite so relaxed about females entering their changing area.

Anyway, this is one young lady who is now in no doubt that a men's changing area in a gym is well and truly out of bounds. I hope she shares that information with her fellow "artists", if they wish to avoid the wrath of Stu .

I don't know either but wonder why Stu started this thread. Just seems something else he wants to argue about to get a rise.

I can see the point in Stu's thread. It's a whole point in nudity also. Rules are rules. If it is a locker room for males only, then it is for males only. If it is for females, then females. Not everybody is a nudist or likes to see or being seen nude. I would't have flinched if a woman, knowingly, enters a shower room or any room where I might be naked, provided SHE IS AWARE that she may encounter nude males inside. But not everybody is the same.
There are nudist resorts that do not accept single men, and if a single man shows up, he will be asked to leave.
