    Re: Locker Room ... WOW!!

Wow! I have been nude in public looker rooms since 1974 Junior High School. It was mandatory then. I didnt like it at first but after a couple of weeks it was the norm. No big deal. In high school it just was the right thing to do after GYM class. Fresh and clean ready for the next class! The school handed out small little towels to dry off and some guys asked for two to cover themselves. I didnt care about covering myself, just to walk ten feet to the showers.
These days I am a member of 24Hr Fitness and I still walk to the showers naked, and shower naked. 24Hr Fitness will not let you sit in the sauna naked.

I had not realized things have changed so much. I am in my late fifties, which puts my high shool years in the late 60's thru early 70's, and showering after P.E. class was mandatory, if someone did not shower, they had to provide a doctors excuse as to why not. Not one erection was ever seen as far as I know, it was just a bunch of guys trying to get clean for the remainder of the day. Besides my girlfriend would have been upset if I got close to her and had an odor.
My name is Jim, and I like to be nude with or without company.

That is a ridiculous rule. The only way to take a sauna is naked. The object is to open up the pores over the whole body, and close them afterwards with a cold shower or plunge pool (or roll in the snow if you are in Scandinavia). A sauna will improve blood circulation, but not if you enter it with elasticated or close-fitting clothing, however brief.

Likewise, I am in my early sixties. Showering after gym class, football practice, track practice, etc., was normal, and yeah, you got naked to shower, and we didn't think anything about it.

If you didn't shower -- well, no one was gonna want to get near you.

    Re: Locker Room

I remember when I had a job in downtown Milwaukee. I would work out at the downtown Y at lunch. Sometimes, I would spend a few minutes in the steam room.

One day, a young man in his early 20s came in with a towel on. He bent down and it fell off. He was standing naked in front of me with a full erection. He apologized. I asked for what and he said the erection. I explained it just means his body works.

He then sat down still naked and with the erection. He then told me he was gay and I said "so".

If you think homophobia is scary, I learned from him how a gay person fears being naked with an erection. He told me he was afraid of being accused of something and was clearly scared.

I told him I am married with kids and not having sex with anyone but my wife so I was not worried. He then cried and told me how relieved he was. For a gay man, having a naked erection in a locker room can be terrirying. I would not assume any more that someone covering up is homophobic.

While I agree that there is a place for mixed nudity, there is also a place for the old fashioned comaraderie of males naked in a locker room.

I have a couple of boys and make a point to take them to King Spa in Chicago regularly and have been for years. (We are going to be there this coming Sunday at 2:00 P.M.) They spend hours in the wet areas. The locker room, showers, tubs, etc. are nudity mandatory. My boys love it and are very comfortable there and are friendly with all, while naked.

(My oldest tends to have asthma. A couple of hours with the humidiy help him breath better for days.)

When I am in a locker room, I never cover up. I find that when people get used to my being naked, they slowly do the same and more and more of all ages are naked.

If you are male and live within a reasonable drive of King Spa, say hello to the bearded guy with the two boys this Sunday at King Spa and enjoy the casual nudity.

    Re: Locker Room

Just came back from LA Fitness. I do my workout at lunchtime, spend about 15 minutes in the sauna and then shower and return to work. For a while, my gym had a hand printed sign on the door of the sauna reading "Please wear at least a towel in the sauna". I think this is a silly rule as this is a unisex sauna in the men's locker room, but I wear a towel, sit on it and loosely drape it over my genitals. One leg and hip are completely exposed. I figure this complies with their silly rule. While sitting in the sauna today, four others came in. All were in their twenties and dressed in workout clothes and shoes. Two of them were wearing sweatshirts. The two in the sweatshirts also spent their time in the sauna on their cell phones. I am thinking of posting my own sign on the door saying "Please wear at most a towel in the sauna". Any other suggestions?

How about "Please leave your cell phone somewhere else." Why should anybody care about what a person wears in the sauna, and I'd consider letting the towel fall where it naturally would fall.

I think clothing should be outlawed in saunas. It makes no sense to wear them there. Why would you? Besides having not accepted your body for what it is. Things keep changing, and not always for the better.

    Re: Locker Room

At my former gym some members used to come in to the sauna clothed because they were "warming up" or using it to loosen up before playing racquet sports. I don't know if it worked but they tried it. The same guys would sauna nude later.
