Heat wave: For millions without power, little relief

    Heat
    Wave

You'd think common sense would overpower brainwashing, but sure enough, it still never occurs to anyone, being nude is a good way to release heat.

I'll bet that if I were to be in those areas of high temperature without clothes on, most people would not be able to make sense of why I'm nude regardless of how obvious it is.

The actual article doesn't mention nudism, but the fact that no one considers the fact that being nude allows heat to rapidly escape the body proves that dependency on clothes isn't a preference - it's pure brainwashing.

If this is the case, why do the desert dwellers wear robes? Several layers I think.

Lightweight robes, that let air circulate freely against the skin, are light in color to reflect light and heat, but keep sun off the skin, keep a person cooler in harsh sunlight than exposed skin would. I don't know about the 'several layers' part.

I've heard about how their robes work. Still not wise, though, as it keeps things too lax. Though not convenient, I believe the wise course of action would be to adapt to the heat naturally, especially if their temperature rises. I believe that these storms will get worse, eventually tearing down cities. I think that dense forestry will be our salvation as it will deflect the blunt of violent wind and storms.

In the future, most survivors will be naturists, as conditioning themselves to adapt to changing conditions will occur to them first.

It is wise to protect yourself from direct sunlight by clothes. But when you can stay in the shadows or when you are indoors, nudity is the most rational way to adapt to high temperatures allowing your skin to evaporate sweat which cools you down.

I think there is something of a nudist fallacy at work, here. Half an hour ago, i was walking around my house in a state of near nudity. I emerged from my sauna wrapped in a towel, had a shower, dried off and donned a pair of loose soccer shorts. In other words, 90-95% of my skin was exposed and the 5-10% that was not exposed was covered by something very thin and loose fitting. Taking them off would have made precious little difference with regard to how cool I was. The difference was that my private parts would not have been visible, so I wouldn't be caught unawares, I could answer the door in that state, walk around my garden, visit my neighbour etc (I wouldn't in practice - not without wearing a shirt).

Modern society allows us to be nearly naked in almost all informal situations. Why is it so important to have our excretory organs exposed as well?

When inside or at night, naked is the best as it allows for complete air flow. When out in the sun, you have to watch out for sunburn and clothing does a job with that, although so does sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat.

In desert cultures, they also have to deal with sand storms, which would hurt if naked.

    Stu,
great that you are not opposed to being NEARLY naked. That's sensible.

    Stu,

Worked today in unbearable heat with very high humidity. When outdoors, wore a pair of loose fitting shorts. Took them off while inside and was noticeably cooler. Put them back on to go outside again and was much warmer. The whole body sweats, and my shorts were saturated. That extra bit of exposed skin did make a difference in my comfort level, too hot none the less, but more comfortable naked.
