This is yet another instance of a Fox news viewer being misinformed. (The Earth's seasons are not caused by the differences in the distance from the Sun throughout the year. The seasons are the result of the tilt of the Earth's axis.)

As any school kid could tell you...except, apparently, the ones who were home skooled...the earth is closest to the sun at perihelion which is in January and farthest away at aphelion which is in July.

And here's another schocker for you. It's only summer on your side of the equator. It's winter right now for everyone south of it.

We have summer every year, but that doesn't account for all time high record temperatures. If it's "just summer" why didn't we see these temperatures in 1980 or 1950 or 1900. A few days ago Knoxville Tenn. (close to me) hit 105, the hottest temp. they have ever recorded in history. All around me in recent days have been record or near record highs. It's not a coincidence that it's happening now.

No, we don't think it's a coincidence either. Most of the all time highs we are breaking this year were set within the last decade (for us many were set last year) and next week we are supposed to be below average (I hope their right). But that's one of the affects of Global Warming the swings in warmer/cooler, wetter/dryer average. There seem to be no long term average anymore, but if you look year to year each one seems to be getting warmer.

I dunno, Yogi. When the NWS says the heat index is 110 to 115 degrees outside my door and I step outside, you will really have to have a good line of you know what to convince me it is a hoax.

I tried to keep it simple......so even you could grasp the point.

Let's try agian. A little "science" quizz:

1) What warms the Earth? (Hint..three letter word)
2) Why does it get warmer in the Summer and colder in the Winter? (You can make it along drawn out psudo scientific essay and use big words like "perihelion" and "aphelion" but for a correct answer you must use the words "tilt" and "axis". You are welcome to include the theory of man-made global warming in your discussion but be sure to reference any actual scientific experiment PROVING the theory is nothing more than a hoax.
