And what "peer" reviewers are you talking about? When climate scientists, you know those pesky experts who spend their entire lives studying things that are too big for conservatives, overwhelmingly disagree with your experts what say you? If we work to make cleaner air and cleaner water, what's the problem? Are you thinking that people with enough wealth will be able to buy whatever clean water and air they need, so why bother?

Bin, old pal, if you want to work for cleaner air and water.....go for it. I'm pretty satisfied with my air and water. Oh wait....it doesn't work that way with you people. I have clean air and water and you don't. So that means that I have to give you my clean air and water or pay someone else to provide you with clean air and water. Hmmmm why is that?

It's really as much about the adage of NIMBY. Being unconcerned with what kind of power generation plant is delivering your power is great, until it's close enough to home to concern you. When the local chemical company decides the 40 acre lot a half mile from your home would make a fine storage site, or that the oil company decides that putting a few more drilling rigs offshore at your favorite beach, you might reconsider. How about if you found out that a local metal plating company a few blocks from your grandchildren's home spilled something that ruined their drinking water?

Bin, I don't have a power generation plant near my home. I choose not to live near one. If beaches with oil rigs really bothered me...I would go to another beach. I am willing to give up a few beaches for a tank of gas that is affordable.

I don't worry about chemical companies locating in my neighborhood (They can't afford the real estate). Anyway no business, chemical included, can afford to locate or expand in California. Regulations and taxes...remember. And I don't expect my grandchildren to be living anywhere near an industrial area. Anyway, the "disasters" you describe are few and far between and are usually blown way out of proportion by agenda driven environmental groups.

How about your family members and extended family? Do they have the means to be able to live far from pollution contributing to their lifestyle? If they don't, which is likely, do you buy them a home where they are safe? What about your employees? Do you even concern yourself with where your employees live or are they just fodder to be used for profits?

Bin I don't know what your point is. Why the interest in where my family lives? My daughter lives in Santa Monica CA. Nice clean ocean breezes. My brother and his family live in Loudoun County, Va. Not much pollution there.

I don't concern myself with where my employees live and I do not consider my employees "fodder". Like I have said before... I hire employees for the purpose of increasing my profits or to do things that I don't want to do. Where they live is their CHOICE.

I really can't understand why you concern yourself with this idea of people living near sources of pollution. That is so very minimal today..... what with all the EPA regulations that business has to contend with.

Speaking of the EPA......I'm sure that you know that Obama has delayed implementation of a whole slew of new regulations until after the elections. If these things went into effect now he would be out of office before a single vote was counted.

    From Inside the EPA:

A new report cites promises allegedly made by former White House climate and energy czar Carol Browner to environmental supporters on a recent call telling them not to worry about the unfinished agenda because Obama is committed to the cause in a second term.

This report is a wake-up call on the economic pain that the "abusive" Obama EPA plans to inflict next year. It reveals a president who is more concerned about saving his own job than the millions of Americans who are looking for one today. Inside EPA reported in July that EPA completed most of its controversial work early this year while killing or delaying other regulations until after the election.

    http://insideepa.com

Some of what we can expect:

Greenhouse gas rules that will eliminate coal as a fuel option for future electric power generation, and inflict new permitting costs on more than 37,000 farms.

New ozone standards that would cost $90 billion a year.

Regulations on hydraulic fracturing that will have serious impacts on domestic energy production.

Expansion of federal control over virtually every body of water in the United States, no matter how small.

Storm water regulations that could include mandates on cities to change existing buildings, storm water sewers, and streets.

Reductions in the sulfur content in gasoline that could boost prices by 9 cents a gallon.

Clean Water Act rules that require expensive new construction at power plants to lower fish deaths. Other regulations would affect coal ash, farm dust, oil and gasoline spill prevention, and more.

Our economy is struggling. What we don't need now, or next January is more over-regulation.

    Bin,

You are dealing with a very strange mindset. Let me shed some light on this. I know some people who live on a dirt road. They have respiratory problems and are on oxygen. There is a company that hauls dirt and stones with their heavy trucks. In order to save a few dollars, this company decided to take the shortest path possible and this involves avoiding the paved road and taking some back dirt roads. When the trucks drive along the dirt roads, they raise enormous clouds of dust. Those people on oxygen inhale all of that crap. They will not complain. They would rather die then say anything about the problem. No regulations exist to prevent such heavy trucks from using and destroying the dirt roads. (Dirt roads can not handle endless heavy truck traffic).

So here you see the problem in a nutshell. Some people just do not care about being exposed to chemicals or pollution that will certainly harm or kill them. No amount of discussion or reason will change their minds. They are a lost cause to humanity.

The video with this article has some fascinating shots of melting Arctic permafrost and a discussion about methane production due to the melting.

    Good article.

Methane.....hmmmm, I think I remember, way back in the global warming discussions, Mark indicated that Methane was a much more prevalent greenhouse gas and more "potent" than CO2.

I guess Algore will have to come up with a system of "Methane Credits" to reduce the "Methane Footprint".

"Recently, nature punished us for our fossil fuel burning with hurricane Sandy; ask any science enthusiast.

Some people deny global warming exists, but that is foolish. It's been proven. It is settled science. Globes have been warmed in science labs. And now we're getting hit with massive hurricanes because... warming. It's science -- you don't have to understand it, you just have to fear it.

If we continue to pump carbon into the air, we will be hit by frequent hurricanes, flooding of the coasts, and men in white lab coats yelling at us and calling us dumb. It's a doomsday scenario, but can we realistically stop it? Probably not. I mean, look at how Mike Bloomberg flies around in a private plane and Al Gore sits around in a giant mansion that uses as much electricity as a small town, counting his carbon credit money. These are the people absolutely certain global warming is going to kill us, and they won't even change their lifestyles to fight it.

If those most concerned and those least concerned about the environment won't change their ways, then all those predictions of environmental doom are basically a foregone conclusion, and we're all about to be overrun by angry penguins who shoot lasers from their eyes, or whatever it is scientists say global warming causes."
