Do personal experiences count too? How about the resentment that the Scots had against my friends from England when we travelled to Scotland during the holidays for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I have had many long and deep discussions with those from Scotland who are proud of their heritage, culture, food, and customs and are not keen on outside interference from Englishmen who think that they know better that they do as to how to run their country.

Just wanted to bring this back to topic a little bit.
If anyone remembers show 75 with the anti-nudity ordinance that bans nudity in public in Manteca, California.

One of the main points that was made was where the objections were coming from. There where many letters sent in, phone calls made, people even showing up for the city council meeting. ALL OF THEM were from OUT of the area. None were from the local Manteca area. We do not have any right to have any laws in any location if the inhabitants of that location do not agree. Society laws change by the majority vote if you happen to live in such a country.

For ex: I do not think that anyone from any country can come to America and start making illegal drugs because its legal or otherwise not cared about where they used to live due to the US having particular drug laws in effect etc.

So, if the people in Scotland do not approve of public nudity, which being that he is still in jail, has been multiple times, continues to try and push what he wants vs what the Country is asking/telling him, I would say they, Scotland, do NOT approve. Nor should they have to change their outlook based on one mans actions.

IF Scotland did agree, then why hasn't a Scottish citizen march been organized that involved thousands of people to do the same walk that he did to demand justice? It would seem if they did agree with him, they would see the injustice for him being imprisoned as he has been.


Like the Bass Lake Falls, the local naturist spot. Just recently a new Park Ranger came down and told everyone to leave etc etc even though this has been an established location, and is mentioned as .gov sites. Called up the office, as did the other locals, he came back and apologized etc.

I have known other locations with similar experiences to Bass Falls. What influences the local ranger(s) in these areas to be accomodating are the effects of local people that actually utilize the location. If the ranger started receiving phone calls or letters from out of the area, state, country, he would politely ignore them all. In many instances, people do not appreciate outsiders meddling in their affairs especially if it appears that outsiders think that they know better than the locals. Just look at our national elections. Regardless of how Americans feel about elections, they would resent foreign nations meddling in, interfering with , or influencing our elections.

Naked Rambler Stephen Gough - who has spent years in solitary confinement in a Scottish jail - was branded arrogant and self-indulgent by a sheriff after refusing to get dressed and go home to England.



Gough, from Hampshire, was brought into a draughty courtroom naked but for a pair of handcuffs today to be quizzed on why he had refused social work and psychiatric help.
The ex-marine was jailed for five months at Kirkcaldy Sheriff's Court, Fife, for committing a breach of the peace.

It didn't take long for him to get out of jail and continue on his naked way. The authorities seem to be learning that they have nothing to gain by apprehending him.

Stephen Gough, known as 'The Naked Rambler,' has spent more than six years in Scottish prisons for refusing to put his clothes on. He was released from prison Friday after serving his latest sentence for public nudity. He has twice traversed the island of Great Britain wearing only boots, socks, a backpack and sometimes a hat.

Nothing to do with "the authorities...learning that they have nothing to gain by apprehending him". He is out because he completed his sentence.

Under Scots Law, the time spent on remand is counted, and the total time in custody is halved with good behaviour while in prison.

If nobody makes a formal complaint, then he might make it home. If someone does complain - he will be back in prison. This time, he appears to be sticking so far as possible to the remote countryside.

A representative of the Scottish Police Federation mentioned him on the radio yesterday and said that they just want him out of Scotland and they will use some "discretion" where possible until he is south of the border. However, if he returns, or if others behave as he has done, there is no doubt arrests and imprisonment will follow.

^^ When he was incarcerated in Barlinnie Prison and Perth Prison, Stephen Gough endured several cycles of being immediately arrested upon leaving prison nude after serving his sentence. The authorities eventually grew tired of that game and just let him go. The authorities in Fife have opted to hide behind the logic that they can't arrest him unless there has been a complaint. The logic is specious as you can always find someone who will claim to be offended by just about anything.
