STEPHEN GOUGH, plans to head south to Southampton wearing nothing but his trademark backpack, socks, hate and walking boots.

I was just wondering how one can wear hate or if it was meant as metaphor about his hate for the court system, etc., but further down the article it says wearing ... hat and walking boots.

He's obviously not terrorising the "well-wishers" who have turned out to see him. If he stays away from inhabited areas and off the main roads, he might make it home without further arrests. To do that, he will need to plan his route carefully and he will also need luck on his side.

Better yet, you could do what you are really thinking............which is to go back to the UK for the weekend, hire a for-hire car, and anonymously run the rambler off the road thereby breaking his leg and ending his ramblings.

Nah! That is a really nasty thing to suggest and I can honestly say it never occurred to me.

He appears to be trying to get home without ruffling too many feathers this time and, so long as he continues to keep a low profile, then I hope he makes it and fades into obscurity. For him to be forgotten would be the best victory!

Out of context, you are correct - nudity is not a behaviour, just as being drunk, high on drugs, infected with a dangerous disease or sexually aroused are not behaviours. They become behaviours when you make choices about where to go - or remain - when in these states, and what to do while in them.

I thought you had it there for a moment. Just because someone does something while nude does not make nudity a behaviour. It is like saying blonde hair is a behaviour if you rob a bank after bleaching it blonde.

No. Being offended is not a behaviour either. It is a state of being. How you respond is the behaviour.

Yes, being offended is a learned behaviour. One is taught what is "offensive". Children are not offended by nudity, their own or others, until society and/or their parents teach them to be.

Freed rambler Stephen Gough is on the road again

NAKED Rambler Stephen Gough strolls starkers down a city street yesterday after his latest release from prison.


Dad-of-two Gough, 56, treated early morning drivers to an eye-popping sight as he strode away from Edinburgh’s Saughton nick just after 6am.

He headed for the hills in a bid to continue his 430-mile trek home over the windswept peaks of the nearby Pentlands.

But, despite the autumn chill, he insisted: “I’m more determined than ever to stay naked.”

Gough, from Eastleigh, Hants, had left prison wearing just his boots and rucksack — and pushing a milk trolley full of his possessions.

He walked through the capital’s tough Sighthill and Wester Hailes neighbourhoods, then on to Colinton and the A720 city bypass.
Onlookers smiled and laughed, while commuters tooted horns.

He reached the foot of the Pentlands just after 11am — and bizarrely put his clothes ON to take a break.

The oddball was joined on the hike by a documentary film crew and pal John Hamilton, 59.

Retired civil servant John. from Edinburgh, said: “The Scottish legal system is being intolerant.”

Gough has 18 convictions relating to his nudity and spent much of the last six years in jail. But he said: “I would quite like to walk for a bit now. I’m going south.”

The nude-again walker pressed on through the hills, only stopping to look back over the capital.


In Auchendinny, Midlothian, he paused for snaps with welcoming road workers.

Tam Phee, 45, of Motherwell, said: “There’s nothing wrong with him.”

Last night Lothian and Borders Police said it will deal with any complaint “proportionately”.

Thanks for Google link to the archive of sanitized Steven Gough/Naked Rambler images, all of most have genital area darkened or blurred out I guess to make family friendly or useable on sites which dont allow full frontal nudity.

The only threat to people, that I can see in all those pictures are the open mine shafts.
