    Up-Scale Nudist Resorts In California?

My 40th birthday will be rolling around next year (yikes!), so my non-nudist wife suggested we take a trip somewhere special to celebrate. Not being one to miss an opportunity, I suggested an up-scale nudist resort. Totally surprising me, she said she would go IF if was clothing optional. 8)

I first looked at Cypress Cove near Orlando. While there are plenty of things to do around there (Sea World, Discovery Cove, Kennedy Space Center, etc), I've been to Florida enough that another trip to Orlando wouldn't really be "special". I've only been to California once - to the LA area a few years ago with my wife for her cousin's wedding - and would like to go back to explore some more. So, I thought a California trip could be considered special. I also thought that it might be nice to see her cousin and his wife on our trip, so I started looking for nudist resorts in California. Since it is special, I wanted someplace up-scale. So far, I've only found Desert Sun. The others, while they look like fun places, seem like they cater more to RVs.

    So, I have two questions:

    1) Am I missing any other resorts that I should consider?
    2) Have you been to Desert Sun recently, and if so, how did you enjoy it? Would it be the kind of place a reserved, shy woman would be out of place in?

While we were on our honeymoon 8 years ago in St. Martin, she did try going topless on Orient Beach for a short time. She said it "wasn't her thing" and hasn't tried since. Although over the last year or so she has gotten more relaxed about being nude around the house and she joined in a clothing-optional house party I threw earlier this year. She remained clothed, but had a great time and said she would join us again (clothed) whenever I had another C/O party. It may not sound like much, but it was a HUGE step for her.

So, I HOPE that she will surprise me by trying nude sunbathing or at least skinny dipping in the pool. But, we will see. The first step is finding a place that is nice that she can relax at.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Stay nude!

Thumbs up Re: Up-Scale Nudist Resorts In California?

    braineyguy9999,

Having been at most all of the California Nudist Resorts, I must say I believe "Laguna Del Sol" Clothing Optional Resort in Wilton, CA [Near Sacramento, CA] is the most upscale, modern, and best layed out Resort with the best facilities of any nudist resort in California. It's considered a world class destination in between the San Francisco Bay Area, and Lake Tahoe, making side trips Casino's, Top Entertainment, Skiing, and gold rush towns, and museums close by and easy for day or evening trips.

Re: Up-Scale Nudist Resorts In California?

I have visited both Desert Sun and Cypress Cove and enjoyed them both. I prefer to be kept busy when visiting resots and find that Cypress Cove has more activities than DS.

Laguna Del Sol sounds very interesting. How far is it from the nearest major airport and is there transportation options from the airport to the resort? I prefer not to rent a car as it just sits in the parking lot for a week. What is the best time of year to visit as I imagine it gets cool by being in northern California? I normally take my vacation the last week of April or first of May. Are there any occasions when clothing is required?

I have been considering signing up for the nude cruise in February but from the info that Gary posted I may reconsider and try LDS instead. Thanks for the info Gary.

Sacramento Int'l is the nearest airport and you can do an Airporter from there to the resort (best to set it up in advance- coming and going).

Being N. Calif the weather is always hit or miss. Some years we've been able to go out starting in Feb and others not til June. One year we were out mid-Nov for one of the boy's birthdays. The offical 'season' is considered to start with Memorial Day weekend. I'd look at the calender of events and plan your trip around that - like car shows? Then July or Octoberfest with house visiting then do early Oct or the very fun Halloween dance at the end of Oct.

There's a sign in the office window that says 'We're nudist - not stupid' or something like that. If the weather is cool or cold then feel free to cover up, other than that you can do your entire week nude - from dining, walking round, going to the dance etc....

Re: Up-Scale Nudist Resorts In California?

Thanks for all the info. After investigating, it looks like we've decided (for now) to go to Cypress Cove near Orlando. The reason for it over Desert Sun (or LDS) is that Orlando has more activities that we are interested in outside of the resort - Disney, dolphin swim, Kennedy Space Center, Sea World. And they are much closer to Cypress Cove than Disneyland is to Desert Sun. It appears the main things to do in Palm Springs are golf and shop at high-end stores. Neither appeal to us. So, Cypress Cove here we come!

    Thanks again!

Why not go back to St. Martin???

There are many other beaches to explore than just Orient. Cupecoy is wonderful and a lot less people. At many, Baie Rouge for example, if you just move down beach a 100 yards, you can also go nude.

Re: Up-Scale Nudist Resorts In California?

For future reference, Desert Sun is a nude resort, not clothing optional. Although it is the nicest, most upscale resort in CA, it seems it would not have fit the requirement of your wife for clothing optional. I took my wife to Desert Sun as our first nude experience just for that reason, although she was hesitant, it was more comforting to her that everybody would be in the same boat, there would not be those that chose to not disrobe making her feel uncomfortable. That was nearly 10 years ago, now she's the one that blocks out the weeks on the calendar and tells me to book the room and flights. Good luck to you, I hope your wife finds it to be very enjoyable, that would be the best birthday gift you could receive.
