I am a member of AANR because I enjoy visiting clubs that respect the membership. But, I send my money to NAC because I believe they are actively fighting for our rights

Yes AANR is supposed to be solely interested in representing their clubs but the issue with San Onofre is different. AANR was alleged to have backstabbed NAC and TNS by selling out San Onofre all in the name of protecting their clubs. AANR sold out to the the CA Parks and Recreation Committee and refused to support NAC in their valient efforts to defend San Onofre. It would have been far better had AANR actually kept quiet concerning San Onofre but they did not. They repeatedly made statements that severly harmed NAC's position and this should not be accepted by the naturist / nudist community. We do not need one organization working against another.
Sadly, most people that I know who are AANR members only join to receive a 20 percent club discount. They have made it clear that they could care less about nudist politics and always expect others to become active in leadership roles.
Regardless of who is to blame for what, according to NAC in the original post there may be room for change when the dust settles.
If a portion of the park could be set up for c/o use I think an offer from friends of San Onofre or NAC to set up some some support such as beach hosting like is done at textile state beach campgrounds. Proper etiquette could be promoted by volunteers and any illegal or lewd activity could be reported. The overall cleanliness and respect for the beach could be promoted etc by the volunteers working in conjunction with state parks. There are such hosts at Magic Circle in Quartzite for example who work with the BLM.
I realize this is a long way from fruition though if a list of volunteers and duties they would perform is already ready at the time then the forward preparation would be seen as goodwill by state parks. I live near San Diego and personally have never been to San Onofre as Blacks is so much closer for me. I would volunteer for such an effort though if it were established. It would be great to have the southern portion of the campground set up and hosted as c/o though something would have to be done about the view from I-5 south. Might be a few accidents from rubber neckers. LOL
Excellent ideas. But first it is a question of being recognized as a legitimate user group and not as sicko pests to be eliminated. Hopefully someone with a more open mind will be appointed. But I wouldn't expect anything during the interim time. The CA folks MIGHT be able to assert their presence more during this time so that when an appointee is named, they'll have a track record of beach stewardship. But the CA folks know better how to work their local politics.

Now there is to be a new, permanent head of the Cal State Parks. LA Times article
Does anyone know anything about him, or the likelihood of any changes as a result?
The last communication I received was that the interim Director didn't want to talk about these topics while trying to sort out the mess that was inherited. I would imagine that the new permanent Director is gonna need time to ensure his office is transparent before deciding who and when he'll sit down and discuss issue important to us. I can assure many of you that NAC and the President of the Friends of San Onofre Beach, who is also a board member of the NAC, is not laying down on the job. They are in constant communications with Sacramento and waiting for the opportunity to discuss these issues. WE will just have to be more patient.
